Hi Guys,
Here is the latest info on K&C’s upcoming ‘KURSK TIGERS’ due to be released throughout November and December 2023.
Once more both of these superb 1:30 scale models feature ALL-METAL HULLS, TURRETS, and 88MM MAIN GUNS… each has MOVING FLEXIBLE METAL TRACKS with FULL SUSPENSION and FOUR OPENING HATCHES.

In addition, each of these ‘Kursk Tigers’ has TWO original individual crew figures to occupy the turret.
Both ‘Tigers’ belong to the SS Panzer Grenadier Division ‘Das Reich’ which formed an integral part of the ⅡSS Panzer Korps which fought in the southern sector of the Kursk battle.
Each ‘Tiger’ is painted in the slightly different 2-color camouflage pattern typical of ‘Das Reich’ vehicles during this period of the war on the Eastern Front.

I really like the figures on the S32 tank, but I'm going to have to pass on this Tiger. I got the WS381, and it's nicely done. So the Kursk tanks are certain to feature the same sharp & robust design. However, the 20% price jump from WS381 to these Kursk versions is a lot. Looking forward to the AK variant.

At this price, it's the minimum it should inspire.
I have the first tiger (Ardennes) which sold for 400 euros...
with this one we are at 500 euros in the space of a few months...
I have a hard time understanding this price increase...
How much should we expect for that of Normandy?
Egyptian tanks at 300euros minimum and the next tigers at 500th... KC and JJD asked themselves the question of whether their customers will be able to absorb such high prices...
It's even a carbon copy of that of the Ardennes with another camouflage so easier to design, right?
It's getting extremely difficult...

I like the idea of doing multiple tanks from same unit, as they did with the Panzer 38s, great opportunity to make aa unit diorama. I have the first of the new style Tiger 1, in winter, and it is great, when the times comes to buy these, as i have [like many other colelctors] a long long list of stuff i want. It will be just the one, as i have the older version of S32, wish they would have been 2 other numbers as a three unit Tiger dio would have been supurb.

The Desert and Normandy Tiger 1s more hit the bullseye for me, looking forward to see them, be interesting to see a Wittman Tiger 1 and his 2 [some people think there could have been another Tiger 1 as well] fellow Tiger 1s which met their fate, but then we would also need a new Sherman Firefly.

I agree...the price made the decision for me. Beautiful works of art, but the ever increasing prices for miniatures will eventually make me leave the hobby.

Did not realise the price had jumped up, that is a big increase, it is up to individuals if they buy it not.

I bought the first one, but it was considerable cheaper than the retail price, at a price i was willing to pay. Agree with the quote above about prices and way the hobby is going. i saw the price of Britains Sherman, which is way higher than the relevant recently delivered K & C excellent Sherman Firefly [i know different version], the JJD tanks are outstanding quality but are a expensive, i wish they would make them without the interior detail and a lower price.

As i said before either buy it or not, i will not at that price, but if i get a deal from a dealer then yeah sure. I collect such diverse ranges/eras there is always something i want available at a price that is OK, just bought some German SS K & C figures from TSRARE for a good price.

S33 should have the good luck Chinese ideogram. The original one by K&C had it. This one not. Strange.

Great models but the 20% price increase isn’t great. I purchased the BOB/Winter version, and it’s great, but don’t understand how in 2 short months we get a cost increase……. I wonder if the latest John Jenkins Tiger (and it’s equally high cost) persuaded Andy to increase the K&C price? I just wish for once that manufacturers realise that their current collectors won’t live forever, and if you want to retain them then please don’t take them for granted, and continue to consistently rise prices (and yes I realise it’s not just K&C that are doing this).

And before everyone thinks I’m being completely down on the 2 releases, I think they’re great, and if a happy sole (ie my wife) wants to buy me one then I’ll be super happy

I’m in the same boat here as well. I got the special edition winter Tiger (WS381) a few months ago and really like it. Mine is in a great little setup that is prominently displayed in my home. While the paint schemes look great on these new Kursk Tigers, they seem to have less weathering, etc. than the previous release and then there’s the obvious price increase. And with a JJD Tiger on order, I’ve got enough of Tigers already… These will be a pass for me.

I like the WS381 winter tiger as well. It really packs a punch. I'm glad you're enjoying yours. For me the Kursk tigers don't have the same kind of impact / presence. They do appear to have less weathering, etc. as you noted. Congrats on securing a JJD tiger. That piece looks fantastic.

If we analyze these two Kursk tigers and this was done through the numerous comments of experienced collectors and even experts who have pointed out certain details in light of the price increase displayed by K&C.. what do we see ?

1/ an increase of 20% in less than 6 months..

2/ the Kursk Tiger is of the same type and an exact copy of the 1st Winter tiger excluding camouflage and figurines excellent by the way.

3/ the Kursk tiger therefore benefited from all the technical innovations already in place on the Ardennes tiger without particularly adding any (which could have justified a price increase)

4/ the paint shows no aging and displays a genuine factory exit... which reflects a simpler paint job...

5/ the numbering (S 32) duplicates the reference of the other Kursk tiger made a few years ago...

6/ the historical Chinese symbol found on the front of the tank on the old reference is not represented on these...

7/ K&C remains on two crew figures

All of this invalidates a 20% increase in such a short time and I haven't found anything to argue the contrary except that they are still very beautiful pieces...

Interesting analysis, but found it a little naïve, for example the third statement, above. When Andy developed the new innovations in the new Tiger 1s he would have weighted the cost of the new innovations across all the potential new Tiger 1s variants he was bringing out, not just the first variant, Tiger 1 winter. The costs spread across the 2 variants already released and potentially the Desert ones and, I hope, new Normandy versions. I can see why the changes would be worth it, in time and money, if you calculated the cost across the whole range of new Tiger 1s and possibly use the lessons and new innovations in future tank releases, such as Panthers or Tiger IIs and [please Andy] Elefants.

Does this mean I can go to Tesla and complain the price of their cars is too expensive, as all they have already sold a Tesla and all the money spent on innovations was already in place so why should I pay the same!

1/ an increase of 20% in less than 6 months.. Or did we get the other one at a cheaper price, say 20% less than it should have been? And it makes the first new Tiger 1 release really good value. Trying to look on the positive.

5/ the numbering (S 32) duplicates the reference of the other Kursk tiger made a few years ago... Maybe it sold well and Andy has been asked to redo it, only he knows, maybe it goes for high prices on the second hand market. I am sure there is a sound logical reason for releasing this numbered tank again. Andy has been in the TS an awful long time and knows the TS market better than us collectors. K & C is a business and he will release things that sell, not for the fun of it.

4/ the paint shows no aging and displays a genuine factory exit... which reflects a simpler paint job... Not sure this would make for a simpler paint job, I also make and paint 1/35 plastic kits and you can cover an awful lot with weathering. Either buy or do not, that is the simply situation, I have the first version, so will not, will get the other one in time, as I like the way I can create unit dioramas.

I was hoping to have a debate on the subject and find some clarification.
For my part, I will stay with the Kursk tiger that we all know...
It's too big a shopping basket for just one piece...

Wait, S33 had the chinese ideogram, not S32. Not all the unit's tanks had it, ONLY S33. So only S33 is wrong. I have the Dragon Armour S33 tank in 1/72 and it has the ideogram, and so had the previous S33 K&C Tiger. So it's a big error in my opinion.

I remember paying $500 for my Unimax 1:16 Wittmann FOV Tiger I, a very nice, detailed and large model IMHO. Of course, that was about 15 years ago and these tanks are now rarer than hen's teeth. But, it is hard to imagine that the hobby has moved to $500 1:30 scale tanks, no matter how nice they are. I'll stick with their first 1:30 Tiger in this series and call it a day.
