Gary's collection (1 Viewer)

I have had a parcel from Thomas Gunn sat in the study unopened for a couple of weeks. Finally had sometime this Saturday morning to open the thing and with a pot of rich full bodied Italian coffee set about inspecting the contents. Its my kind of Saturday morning after a tough week at the coal face. First up TG Dacian warriors. These guys are something else and I really hope TG add to them. With so much on their books though we may have to wait a while.

Next up was a shock and awe item from the ancient world. The Celtic chariot is a masterpiece and I am glad to have it in my collection. It will be much sought after in years to come. I suspect with the success of this chariot TG may consider others from different eras in the future.

Moving back in time now and the latest editions to the world of the ancient Greeks. I just love the detail on these wonderful figures.

Finally an unusual Russian revolution Sopwith Spike with Lenin figure. We were asked to contact TG with our thoughts on future lines. Well for me TG are leaders in wooden plane production for both wars and figures from the ancient world. I say keep adding and expending to these eras. I have another parcel of the February figures waiting in TG's storeroom in Warminster. I must get on a pay for the thing to get the latest TG Saturday morning buzz!

TG's ancients ranges are superb and the Chariot amazing as you say, Had a peek at mine but back in the box until I can make enough room for that. Need to clear a shelf of my Naps away. Is this natures way of telling me I need to slow my collecting !
TG are promising some Ancient Britons later in there year foot and mounted. I'm hoping they're come out with a stunning Boudicca figure.

When TG had Lenin sculpted was Jeremy Corbyn the model !{sm4}

Nothing to spectacular this week. Just a gentle stroll down the street as concrete coloured skies sprinkled light drizzle on me. After a few hundred meters I turned left into the house/factory of Regal Enterprises. I picked up the last of my Hastings figures, Norman infantry, and got the boys started on the next commission- The Boxer Rebellion. They also had a nice Cpt Cook range with the man himself, marines and other personalities. I may be out of luck with these though as they could be an exclusive range for the National Museum only. I love Saturday mornings with coffee, good conversation and toy soldiers. Anyway that's enough for this week.

Nice! Love the Aztecs! I have none :( So my Marlbourough and Reamsa Conquistadores have no foe.

I am pulling together an article on Gettysburg and thought I would share a couple of scenes that have been photographed. First up Buford's Union cavalry spot Confederate forces converging on the small town of Gettysburg. Recognising the strategic importance of the town Buford dismounted his cavalry and held off overwhelming forces for several hours before being relieved. It bought the Union army time to occupy the heights at cemetery ridge that night.

Next up and the following day Confederate forces try to dislodge Union troops from the heights. A flank attack to the extreme left of the Union lines at Little Round Top proves unsuccessful. It was rough ground but the Confederate forces almost took the position which would have been disastrous for the Union position. But the 20th Maine held off wave after wave of attacks and then charged to push Confederate troops off the hills.

Great photos Gary !

Whoever made you the Roman Watchtower, that seems to be in vogue in several threads at present, really looks the business, They've done a very good job indeed and it looks ready ready to do duty on some hostile Northern Frontier !

If you've not done a Balloon trip already and get the chance, go for it ! Just so serene floating above wherever it is you do it. I've done three, all in Luxor, on the West bank over the ancient Egyptian temples and tombs absolutely amazing !

Hi Steve,

Watchtower was a commission build many years ago by Small Wonders Model Makers in the UK. They do not advertise but just do odd pieces through word of mouth.

Very envious of your Egyptian hot air balloon adventures. Sounds the business!

Gary

Oh Vienna. Added another Polish Winged Hussar this week. One to go. Would love to get the Saracen mounted figures if funds allow.

Had a bit of fun trying out a diorama for the battle of the Hydaspes in 326 BC as Alexander pushes deeper into the Indian sub continent. I definitely need more Macedonians and where am I going to get Indian war elephants, archers, infantry and cavalry for this period of ancient history?

Battle of Plataea 479 BC and the Greeks shove the remaining Persians out of Greece after a bloody struggle where the more heavily armoured hoplite overcame the superior numbers but more lightly armoured Persians.
