Really like your great battle scene there Gary. Well done !

Steve

The wonderful TG ancient world inspired me to think about home 12,000 miles away back in the UK. Devon to be precise. The Romans invaded Devon in the far south west of England in around 50 t0 55 AD. The local Dumnonii tribes resisted by were subjugated as far west as Exeter. It is now believed through archaeological evidence that the Romans may have settled a little further west as the remains of a small town has been found. A legion commanded by Vespasian (2nd Augusta) built a fortress on a spur overlooking the River Exe. This legion stayed for the next 20 years before moving to Wales.

In this scene local tribes around the Exeter area are called for a truce by Roman commanders. However, it's a ruse as auxiliary Roman troops ambush the hapless locals.

Interesting to get some insight to the times Gary, plus see it acted out. Robin.

A really colourful period of conflict with the conquest of the Aztec empire by the Spanish conquistadors. I liked the Morgan Miniatures figures brought out around a decade ago but the John Jenkins figures are simply outstanding. Keep em coming John!

That's one heck of a plane Gary. Big and beautiful. Lucky to own it. Robin.

Thanks Robin. I do like model planes more and more it seems. I have ordered the TG Sunderland. Now that's a whopper. Gary

This week just the normal offerings from TG's ancient world. Have you seen the photos of the TG Carthaginian elephant? It's a stunner!

Yes I can see an elephant amongst this lot Gary. That will spice it up, not that this setup needs it. Robin.

More TG I am afraid this week. I do have First Legion and john Jenkins figures winging their way over to me. But for now it's the Egyptians that take centre stage. The defeat of the Sea Peoples invasion in around 1175 BC in the Nile delta provides the backdrop for perhaps the execution of the Sea Peoples king. Egyptian records suggest after defeating the Sea Peoples on land, in what is today Southern Lebanon, Ramesses III defeated it's fleet. It was ambushed in the Nile delta with archers on shore wreaking havoc while the more maneuverable Egyptian ships bordered and capsized many of the Sea People's vessels.

It is claimed from Egyptian records that the Sea Peoples were the Vikings of their day. Causing chaos and destruction across the Eastern Mediterranean. It was a major influence on the destruction of ancient bronze age civilisations like the Hittites. To this day we do not know where they came from but we do know that Egypt was the only power able to stand up to them and eventually defeat them.

Good on TG for helping bring this part of ancient history to life.

Get the picture Gary. No need to seek out a beheaded figure to display, this is graphic enough^&grin,
Robin.

Oh dear, Robin I had better give you warning on something I have in mind !{sm5}

Friday and another home working day at our country retreat. Report editing takes a short break as the parcel sitting in the study has a few JJDs and FL figures packed inside and is becoming more tempting.. Hot chips, beer and unpacking the little blighters at lunchtime. Priceless. well not really as we all know how much these things cost.

Just seen the K&C Barbarian figures and FL Agincourt French mounted knights and all would be wonderful to add to the collection. And of course Thomas Gunn will give us their latest offerings next week - I think I heard Roman cavalry might be amongst them. Oh well need to keep editing that darn report to earn more toy soldier vouchers!

Have a good weekend all.

Gary

Just visited Regal Enterprises, just a 5 minute walk away, and picked up the first of the Boxers and dismounted US cavalry I commissioned. As well as getting the other foreign powers, Italy and Japan next, they are gonna produce a 6 ox team 28 pounder Chinese dragon gun and limber. Should make a really nice centerpiece to the Boxer collection.

Enjoy
