Gas prices🤬 (1 Viewer)

The US is spending $74 million PER DAY at the current prices to buy Russian oil. The gas prices here in PA are moving over $4/gallon. I got gas today and the place was full. I wonder if there will be a 70s shortage in the works on top of the prices? Imagine on top of everything else having to sit in lines to buy overpriced gas. The electric car companies must be getting a boost.

The gas station in my town raised prices $.20 twice this week.I think part of this is their using the war to increase prices plus this administration wants to do away with fossil fuels.I don't think they realize they use fossil fuels to make almost everything or they don't care.

How much of Europe would be speaking German today if not for the Russian Bear?

Clearly the French did not have the stomach to stop the Panzers and how much more could England have done on its own? And would the US population have endured the mass casualties in Europe if they had to confront a Germany that wasn’t treating the western front as a sideshow? Perhaps US technology would’ve carried the day but that seems rather chauvinistic. German and even Russian war-making technology proved to be pretty advanced even under very adverse conditions.

If Russia was threatening to enter into a mutual protection pact with Canada or Mexico does anyone doubt that the US would take proactive measures to avoid that? The history of the Cuban missile crisis answers that question.

Like General Washington said, avoid foreign entanglements at all costs. And like General Eisenhower warned - beware of the military-industrial complex, which is already making 100s of millions of dollars from this European conflict.

America First.

They had a battle on the grounds of a nuclear reactor last night. How nuts is that?

The Russians endured horrible casualties and destruction but fought back all the way to Berlin. But would have they been able to without the massive aid that the US provided them.

We are heartbroken as to the war in Ukraine. We recently adopted a precious child from there and have been there a few times in the last couple of years and is hard to watch the news and see what is happening.

Unfortunaltely, it won't be only Ukraine.I am afraid Ukraine is only the first one on the list.

Yup, Putin wants to put the USSR band back together and reclaim all the land of the former Soviet Union, he also does not want any NATO countries along his boarder.

This is going to get a lot worse.

Yes,but he does not understand that you cannot force someone to be with you against their will for long ... History gives many examples. His is a battle that has been lost in the long run.

American and British air power would have ruled the skies and played havoc on German industries and supply lines. Also remember that America was the first and only country to have atomic bombs, at some point they might have had to use them on Germany.
No doubt the Russians were a vital part of the allied victory over Germany but even without them Germany would lose, albeit with more allied and German casualties.

NATO has always had borders with the Soviet Union with the former countries of the Warsaw Pact.

Had the Russians collapsed in ‘41, which they easily could have given the losses they sustained that year, losses the other Allies never came to close sustaining during the course of the entire war, most of the German war effort could’ve then focused on the western front. Had the Germans been able to focus on the west the Allies task of establishing a beachhead in Europe would have been much, much more difficult. Unlikely there would’ve been a Normandy landing in 1944. Did England and America have the stomach for the kind of effort the Russians gave? The US home front during WWII involved relatively minor inconveniences, relatively speaking, for most Americans.

As for nuclear weapons, Allied firebombing of German cities was comparable to what occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The eyewitness stories are just as horrifying as to what happened in Japan.

This is going to be Putin's Viet Nam..You know what it is.

My Vietnam combat veteran friend said, he could taste the war in his mouth watching the dead and burning buildings in Ukraine and had to turn the TV off. War is hell.

Oil prices are now over $120/barrel. Ironically, that benefits Putin. It's going to get really ugly soon once the US decides to stop buying Russian oil. Our pals the Saudis are not exactly rushing to help. Amazing that we prop up their corrupt murdering regime, sell them weapons, and they do nothing during a time of crisis like this.

We are not stopping Russian oil.They are negotiating a nuclear arms deal with Iran for us.^&confuse^&confuse{eek3}

Agreed.

Additionally, if Russia collapsed in '41 or '42 the amount of resources saved from having to equip and logistically supply the German armies on the East Front would have been re-allocated to combat the West. A lot more resources would have been allocated to the Luftwaffe. How would the Allied Bomber offensive have fared in '43 and '44 if they were met by a re-invigorated Luftwaffe many times larger than what was historically encountered? One that likely would have also had numerous operational fighter squadrons fully equipped with the Me-262 in '44.

The Russians collapsed during WWI and that didn't end up making much difference. Germany and the axis powers had a fatal flaw. They were dependent on foreign sources of natural resources including oil necessary to conduct the war. I read somewhere that England's monthly consumption of oil for domestic, non-military purposes exceeded Germany's total oil use for any month during the war. The Axis powers were increasingly cut off from these natural resources during the war while the US and England had basically an unlimited supply. The allied control of the air and sea would eventually have ended the war.

I agree. Without Russia's involvement the war would have lasted longer and with more casualties for the allies but eventually Germany would have been starved of resources and bombed into submission.
Along the way partisan uprisings would have increased with the allies controlling the skies and infiltrating with special forces. The seas and airspace would have been dominated by the allies.
Hitler was a very sick man with terrible addictions to amphetamines and opioids, his death was imminent either way.

Getting gas this morning, I noticed the person before on pump 3 had bought $10.00 worth of gas. Where were they going? to pump 4? ^&grin^&grin^&grin
