Going through Soccer Withdrawal? (2 Viewers)

For those who may had their appetite whetted and would like more, ESPN has a program called ESPN FC at 6pm that is a good watch. I also recommend the Guardian and BBC web sites. I also find Twitter has a lot of great information. If you start with the Twitter feeds of the above three, it will lead you to other feeds and sites.

If you have Sirius XM, Channel 94 is devoted to football, with a lot of good programs.

I follow the FC Bayern München online, through their website and through the Facebook page. I became a fan when I was a student over there, when they still played in the old Olympic stadium. The advent of Internet made following them so easy.

I do the same with Real Madrid, my favorite team, as I'm sure Bayern is yours. They probably have a Twitter site as well. Obviously since you and I are fluent in German and Spamish, respectively, that opens up more possibilities and I look at several Spanish sites.

No withdrawal as this is one of the season's where having the world cup shortens the time before the premier league, the best football league in the world, starts in August. Plenty of pre season friendlies beginning to happen soon so, plenty of football. So, NO is the answer.

Watch that could be deemed a snarky reply to the initial bit snarky post meaning that you have been doubly snarky or at least one and a half times more snarky that you were initially with the bit of snarky that you allegedly added to your post.

Full on snarky would have at least earned an infraction where as snarky just gets a deleted post. Perhaps we need canons of interpretation much like our English judiciary have in order to clearly understand the levels of snarkiness

And if members have not heard of or understand snarky comments is ignorance to snark a defence against a sanction?

I too call it football but I wanted to distinguish it from American football, to avoid confusion.

In transfer news, Kroos has signed with Real Madrid. In addition, Philip Lahm has retired from international football. His moving to right back was a big reason for Germany becoming champions this year.

It's hard to say. The possession game they play may be out of vogue and the German attacking style the way to go. However, people always tend to go with the in thing and there's no way of telling whether Germany can replicate their success. Of course, I wouldn't bet against them. Spain may have relied too much on players like Xavi who is a shadow of himself and had gotten old. Trouble is, I don't know if their manager, Del Bosque, is the man to take them into the future. I guess time will tell.

Football or 'footy' as it's often referred to here in NZ is simply thought of as being either rugby or rugby league. Soccer is just that, Soccer....a game you kick a ball about with ya feet.

Don't mind Soccer and enjoyed the Worldcup highlights, but the 'Hollywood,' over the top cry-baby acting, over so called fouls just ruins the game. Some of those so called blokes need to hard up and go back to 'blokes school' and to learn how to be men again.{sm4}

Its not even a gauntlet I don't care and, I am actually happy we did so poorly. Just as when my own team Newcastle were relegated we needed to examine what has happened to the football, the attitude and philosophy of why the players play or, don't.

I think as happened with my team we need a wholesale change and I am thankful that a lot of the players who used the three lions as an accessory to their pampered lifestyles (players like Lampard, gerard, Cole, and others who I dislike immensely) and have done little for the national team are fading away. There is and has been for a long time no pride or passion in putting on the most famous top in the world. So, sack the manager, get rid of the players and start afresh for the Euro's.

The largest and best known footballing leagues England and Europe call it football and quit simply that is what it is.

For all you out there who love to complain when Americans and others, call 'Football', 'Soccer', you should know that it was the British that invented the word and it was also one of the first names of what we now primarily know as 'Football'.

In fact, in the early days of the sport among the upper echelons of British society, the proper term for the sport was 'Soccer'. Not only that, but the sport being referred to as 'Soccer' preceded the first recorded instance of it being called by the singular word 'Football' by about 18 years, with the latter happening when it became more popular with the middle and lower class. When that happened, the term 'Football' gradually began dominating over 'Soccer' and the then official name 'Association Football'...........

None of which matters as Rugby is the game played in heaven......^&grin

But it is ruined by diving, crying, oooh look at my new hair do , divas that are so overpaid it's not only almost criminal but also shameful in this day and age. We need to rediscover players who just want to play for England with a fire and a zeal. Come to think of it we need people with the spirit of Ian Botham, he was a brilliant all rounder.....maybe he could play football too!:salute::

I wonder if because we have so many players from around the world playing in the premier league it stifles the progression of our own to the national detriment, I have no idea if this is true or not but I hear it talked about often.

It always comes back to team work and playing as a team. Regardless of how good an individual player is, he's buggered without the support of his fellow team mates......it's magic to watch when it works, but tragic when it falls apart, like the Brazil match that ended 7/1.
