This is "G" gauge to big hey?

I reckon that looks pretty OK size wise Wayne.
The 'bulk' of the actual rails looks a little big (I'm no expert here), but the width between them looks about what I'd imagine.

Wayne556516...

Looks fine when you think of the size of some trains especially the armoured. I forget what scale a train buff once told me was right for 1/30th could even have been this but, it is what works for each collector at the end of the day

This 'G' gauge track measures out at 4' 8 1/2" from inside rail to inside rail.

This is standard gauge in 1/32 scale.

The rail weight (height and width) is very heavy for true scale, but the norm in this industry. I use lighter rail designed for 'O' gauge and hand lay the track on wooden ties for 1/32 scale.

My recommendation for use in a diorama would be to paint the ties and rail dark brown, paint the sides of the rail rust, ballast the track with scale ballast and then polish the top, or running surface of the rail bright.

This will give you a very good approximation of what you are looking for and the paint and ballast will minimize the oversize rail.

Like Ken I have a background in model railroads. You would be surprised just how effective the techniques he described work. I had a display this summer where a fellow asked me "why are your tracks smaller than mine?" Obviously they weren't, but he had been looking at an area where the rails and ties were painted and the ballast applied, so the rails seem to diminish in size. Just darkening the shiny sides of the rail really help IMHO.
