With the news that their might be a Master and Commander sequel I was wandering what other historical movies might be made.My favorite movie is Last of the Mohicans but I don't think you could do a sequel to this.I would like to see a movie about Robert Rogers but I don't think it would have a wide enough audience.A good rousing Viking movie would be good. There have been some decent viking movies in the last few years such as The 13th Warrior,Beowulf,Outlander, even Pathfinder and some forgettable ones on Sci-Fi,oops I mean Sy Fy but all these have a sci-fi tint to it.Pacific is going to be the main WWII movie in the coming months but there is always room for more. What do other members think would be a good movie to make, remake or do a sequel to.

Well - there's a new Robin Hood movie being made - which makes me very happy.. There have been rumors for a couple of years that a movie about Tripoli would be made - I think that would be a great subject for a movie.

I also would like to see any film that covers the FIW which apart from Mohicans and Northwest Passage has been practically ignored by Hollywood-Not sure whether or not it would have general appeal but Mohicans did well at the box-office and there are other "ADULT" cinema-goers out there who will still be willing to buy a ticket but only if the movies change from the continual diet of Wolverines/Watchmen/Spiders/Bats/Iron/Transformers/Hulks and X-Men :(:(:(

And although not historical I hope they continue with the Bourne series-I note one is scheduled for 2011 but nothing confirmed. Ludlum's trilogy have all been filmed but Eric Lustbader has written a further four-Legacy; Betrayal; Sanction and Deception which of course the Ludlum fans absolutely hate-as you might expect. But I have read them all finding them to be easy holiday reads and enjoyable with The Bourne Legacy in particular providing a near perfect story/script for a movie. Here's hoping as long as they dont put Bourne into a shiny blue and red costume to attract the kids

Its definately time for some new big historical movie epics, Waterloo 1970 Last of the Mohicans 1992 and The Patriot is almost 10 years old now.

I want to see some big battle scenes again!!! :D

Any new movie about the Napoleonic period would be welcome. Sharpe on the big screen would be magical, and Waterloo would certainly be welcome.

I am a huge Zorro fan (more about that in a different thread) and while most of the remakes and sequels have been rather well done, it is such a timeless story (like the Three Musketeers), it (or rather they) can simply not be done too many times.

I am not sure the Last of the Mohicans or the Patriot can be done better but I am game to see the efforts.

Midway is ripe for a remake, if it can be done well and not ruined with overly aggressive CGI.

I would love to see a movie (or trilogy) based on Bernard Cornwell's King Arthur (War Lord Chronicles) series or the Saxon Stories. The former could be the best version of that legend ever done and the later would give you plenty of Vikings in much more interesting situations than the usual fare.

I love the Bourne series but I most dearly hope they dump the stupid overly cut, ultra closeup, distorted miss-mash, action sequence filming that the director of the last two made us suffer through (as did the last Bond director). How the h*ll did those morons get out of film school?;)

The 1960 production of "Sink The Bismarck" was actually quite good and stayed very close to the real story. One can imagine what could be done with modern CGI, but one also hopes that nobody "monkeys around" with the story and characters.

Would love to see any of Simon Scarrows "Legion" books in film. As for Robert Rogers, the second half of Northwest Passage was in the planning stages and was a "go" in the 40's but Spencer Tracey swore he would never work again with King Vidal who directed... What a shame... Also a fairly decent TV movie was produced years ago by Ted Turner "The Broken Chain", about Johnson, Brandt, Iroquois during the F&I War and the American Revolution.

Yes,I remember Broken Chain,It was pretty good.TNT did some good movies a few years ago but don't seem to hardly make any anymore. Most of these type of channels are having success with weekly shows now.I don't think you could make LOTM better as the music in it is classic.

These would be great if done right.

George MacDonald Frasier's Flashman books (I know they made a lame version of Royal Flash with Roddy McDowell) and Dand McNeil/MacAuslan series.

A sharpe's movie with a big budget would be nice but has been done with the series. A well done Aztec/Conquistador movie would be interesting. It could be sort of a continuation of Apocalypto which had it's moments. Another wide screen movie subject could be the Armada. Using modern CGI, it would be awesome. Trafalgar would be awesome as well.

Broken record for me, but I would like an up to date Custer/ Bighorn movie...any WW1 air combat movie ( not another air combatless Ritchoften ), any F.I.W movie ( Unconquered, Drums along the Mohawk remake ) updated Waterloo..Michael

Good idea.Waterloo made today with modern special effects could be stunning.

It has to have great acting, though..Master and Commander is a current classic, because of the excellent script and acting from all involved..Michael

I agree Waterloo should be made with at least good acting; the original did not have that. I would hope they go easy on the special effects however; there is a limit to the need for that in this type of movie.;)

I would have to agree about the Waterloo acting, but the music and battles are what makes this movie a joy to watch...Michael

I assume you and Michael did not like Steiger's interpretation of Bonaparte?:D
I thought his version played as a New York Mafiosa Boss straight out of Lee Strasberg's studio was hilarious and I never tire of watching him sweating and screaming his way through the movie.
a real "class act" of watch me methodize this little Corsican to the nth degree  the only other scene that came near Steiger's St Vitus Dance portrayal was poor old Michael Wilding stuck bouncing up and down on that wooden rocking horse pretending to get stuck in mud. Both performances easily worth the price of the DVD ;)

I think there was a scene in Elizabeth the Golden Age which had the Spanish Armada in on a large scale, but cannot remember if there was a decent battle scene????
I cannot believe the Battle of Trafalgar hasn't made it to the big screen yet, there is so much potential there and would look visually stunning if done correctly.
As I am interested in AWI period combat, something on this would be nice to with big battle scenes and seeing some different uniforms and regiments instead of the usual red and blue!
