Tropical Storm Barry has just turned into Hurricane Barry...
while it's only a Category 1...(74+ mph)...
it's gonna dump a ton of water...
it looks to make landfall in the next few hours between Orange, Tx and New Orleans, La...
it has a NE pattern moving at less than 5 mph...
good luck to anyone in it's path...
I'm on the clean side so not expecting too much...

All the best

thanks Martyn...
it doesn't look like much of a threat to me...
Galveston is not in it's path...
several hundred miles away from me...
they are expecting about 2-3 feet flood waters...
90 mph gusts...
as it move through Louisiana to Arkansas and further up North...
I have dark clouds and it's barely sprinkling here...
with the sun peeking out occasionally...

I hate that word,HURRICANE!What a destructive force.

have not sen the news yet tonight...but we barely even got any rain...it's pretty much past us now...

Toronto wants a wall to keep out the US hot air. {eek3} The remnants of Hurricane Barry are heading this way and by Thursday - Friday the temp will be in the 90's with a humidex of 108.

This is going to set records. Unbearable.

Got bombed last night from some remnants of Barry all the way here in San Antonio. Started off with a lightning show. The sky was like the photo flashes...then a soaking.

Today 98 degrees sunny and humid.

98 degrees sunny and humid. You forgot hot. The low is expected to be 80 degrees at 3am. 80 after the sun has been gone for close to 7 hours?

And people wonder why real estate is so cheap in Texas...............

...and I LOVE IT!

The Weather Channel played this one like it was the end of the world. Imagine getting a hurricane on the gulf coast. What next? An earthquake in California? Those are natural events in those areas. If you choose to live there, then you have to cope with those kinds of events.

It's supposed to be 99 here, hot and humid.

Great, ball soup weather for the northeast, such a joy to work in conditions like that, can't wait...…….:rolleyes2:...……………..nope, I'll crank up the AC and stay indoors.

Either way temperature extremes are not pleasant.

Single digit temps with below zero wind chill is pretty bad.

That said, 99, hot and humid?

That's "enjoyable" for some people?

So being a human heat pump is fun?

No, sorry, when I walk outside and I feel like I got smacked across the face with a wet dishrag, then an activity like walking to my jeep results in sweat rolling down my face, no thanks.

We had our annual block party cook out last weekend and it was hot, hot, hot, totally unenjoyable, we spent half the day inside in the AC, sitting outside even in the shade sipping an adult beverage was not enjoyable at all.

Give me 70 degrees, sunny and dry, a nice breeze, that's June weather here; you can keep July and August...………..six more weeks and Summer is over...…………………….

Don't get me wrong, I love the low cost of living etc. in Texas and I can't stand the super expensive cost of living in California.

On the other hand I can walk out to my car at noon during the summer in California and not die of heat stroke.

George,

Move a ton of stone today by hand (started at 730 am) , trimmed up some cedars so the fence guys could repair my fence and oh chipped out a fence post hole (10 inches) with a Makita chipping hammer. It was 99...sweated up a storm...and enjoyed every second of it.

Once, when I was in Dhahran it was 130 degrees everyday and that heat was searing, even for this Texan. The sky wasn't blue...it was white. That was anvil hot and I have never felt a hot like that ever and never want to again. It was so hot you didn't sweat because it evaporated. So, when I think its getting hot I think back when I was stationed in that hot *** desert...hot. Man that was brutal.

Anyway George you can keep your "Nor-eastas" in the winter time, while I'm chilling in the 60's and 70s.

I don't know how you guys do it.

It's all about perspective and what you can and cannot tolerate.

We get patches here and there in the winter where it's in the single digits, then it warms up; if it snows, the plows do their thing and the next day the roads are fine.

We get four seasons, spring, summer, fall and winter.

I like the four seasons, winter, spring and fall.

Summer is not my bag.

As Larry said in another thread; here in the northeast, we don't get biblical floods, wildfires, tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, just snow storms, that's it.

Good for you that 99 is tolerable and you dig it.

I don't.

I've never heard of anyone dying from the cold, I hear about people dropping like flies in the heat all the time.

Again, perspective.

I'm counting the days until September.

Can't wait.

George...

you might check out this website...

that winter wonderland can get pretty scary...

Mother Nature rules!

I guess my point is every house in MA has heat, whether it be gas heat or oil heat.

Not every house has central AC, some people have window units, other have no AC, they can't afford the extra electric bill, so they sit in front of fans with a bowl of ice next to them...………..and the cops find them a week later when their upstairs neighbor complains of "A funny odor coming from Harry's apartment, #7A"

When it is super hot in Texas (95+) the news always mentions that you should check on your elderly and sick friends to make sure they are keeping cool.

When it is super cold in Texas (30 or below) the news never reminds me to check on the elderly or sick to make sure they are keeping warm.

George...
you know...
it just all depends on the climate you like...
you like it cold...
I like it hot...
to each his own...

I don't want to wear an undershirt...
long johns...
a flannel shirt...
a sweater...
a coat...
a muffler...
gloves...
and ear muffs to go get groceries...

a hot climate does not shut down roads...
schools...
businesses...
and make me a captive in my own house...
housebound til it clears up...

and you tell my friend Larry...and yourself...
to find another weather channel to watch...

New England does get hurricanes and flooding...
a long history of hurricanes...
deadly and costly hurricanes...
most recently you must remember Sandy and Irene...
just to mention some of the most recent...
