Excellent film, some of my favourite films were made just after the war. I just been watching "Went the day well" on DVD. So much better than all of the films. I think Hollywood has run out of ideas!:D

Martin.

I was Monty's double is a good film and Went the day well is one of my favourites. Hard to imagine now but the scene in which the elderly lady picks up an axe and does the business on the German was pretty shocking in those days, and is done very well. Its a great Home front movie and I think I'll give it a spin today.

The DVD set I have is a double disk and straight after Monty's double is went the day well and the other disc has the wooden horse and the long and the short and the tall.

All great films. I agree about the axe bit but, as it was against the nasty german I suppose she was a heroin (in my books she was)

Absolute Heroine!. She represented the spirit of Britains civvies on the home front didn't she, love the way she's talking to him before she throws the pepper in his eyes before doing him with the axe, don't mess with British old ladies was the message coming through loud and clear!:D

Rob...

Sadly, an era we have somewhat lost. I remember my gran telling me of all the difficulties they went through as if it was water of a ducks back and still got everything done. We grind to a halt with a little bit of snow!!!!

Sadly I have to agree, the snow disruption and following panic is absurd these days, lets hope for a milder forthcoming winter.(lets face it summer is well over, it was in fact two weeks in July!):(

Couldn't agree more, two flakes of snow and all we get are dire warnings not to venture outside the door unless it is really necessary. God knows what would happen if we had a repeat of the 1947 event. The nanny state has now got to ridiculous levels, oh for a return to the stoic, stiff upper lipped attitude we used to have. Nowadays anyone attempting that is condemned as "unfeeling", tears and weeping and wailing are the order of the day.

The nanny state is reaching everywhere isn't it, some schools no longer hold athletic days so kids who don't win don't feel bad. And they wonder why theres a raging childhood obesity epidemic!. So the kids no longer feel bad about losing a hurdle race, they just feel bad when the other kids call them a big fat tub of lard!

Can never understand that one that its fine to almost emotionally scar a kid by taunting the life out of him for being obese and yet its worse if he loses a race!!! A world gone mad. Competion is a great thing and a return to common sense would be a lovely thing.

I am only in my early thirties but, I feel the victor meldrew thing will be coming ever quicker lol

Dunkirk a great film to watch as well :D

David Farrar made some good WW2 films For Those In Peril -The Small Back Room

What's the one where they float a body with false i.d. so that he'll wash up in Spain with misinformation? I'm pretty sure Keneth Moor is in it.

Martin.

I think the one you mean is 'The man who never was', but I'm not sure Kenneth More was in it was he?.

Rob

That's the one. Wasn't it Keneth More who puts his medal on the grave at the end? It's a long time since I've seen it.
