Impressive New Jagdpanther (2 Viewers)

If we were in a tank and you went to open the hatch to engage with a pistol, I would have shot you myself. If someone was on the tank, you would not have gotten a Sherman hatch open fast enough to engage. If someone was near the tank, it would be too far for a pistol and they enemy would almost certainly have a weapon better than a pistol. A Luger is OK for threatening unarmed civilians but not much more.

Terry

The figure was obviously done with a specific purpose in mind. If you shot your own fellow crewman for defending himself with a side arm, maybe you should turn a gun first on yourself. I am assuming your comments are based upon personal experience ??????? Tank commanders more times than not navigate or command their vehicle from the open hatch position. Of course when bullets are flying it is a different story.

Well sculpted figure King&Country to go along with a well done "Impressive Jagdpanther"

Being ex Royal Australian Armoured Corps, we carried pistols to "clear the decks" - remove any unwanted enemy who may have climbed onto your tank. :)

I don't care if he is waving around a empty Stein im getting one a tank commander figure can always be replaced this vehicle is spectacular and will be bought in mutiples to make up a small armoured force at my house for sure.
Well done K&C i wonder if anyone would ever make a AFV with branches etc to put on it,it does make it 100% more accurate,just a thought.

This is a superb looking release. I too stopped buying German AFV's a while back but I am probably going to get this once I have the Commandos and 25 pounder. Its a terrific looking JP, one of those K&C AFV's that just looks better each time you look at it. Am very pleased for Wayne and all the collectors of Jerry AFV's and I do believe I'll be joining you on this one.:salute::

The 654th only had about 14 Jagdpanthers on its strength in Normandy. Two were found abandoned after the action with the 6th Guards Tank Brigade. The new K & C model looks great and is a real improvement over its predecessor.

The 654th was the only unit to be issued 42 Jagdpanthers.
The Panzerjäger Abteilung 654 arrived on the 28th April in Mailly (Fr)
on the 14th of June 17 more Jagdpanthers were dispatched.
27-29th June: one Kompanie with 8 Jagdpanthers was attached to the Panzer Lehr Div.
18th July: 2nd Kompanie was assigned to the 47th Panzer Corps
28th July: 3th Kompanie arrived sometime prior in Normandy, 21 Jagdpanthers were operational and 4 in repair
31st July :8 more Jagdpanthers issued
1st August:8 Jagdpanthers operational and 16 in repair an 1 remained in Mailly
10th August: 16 additional Jagdpanthers were sent to the unit . 1st Kompanie recommended to be sent to Normandy
14th August: 8 more Jagdpanthers dispatched.
Only the 2nd Kompanie fought in Normandy and only 2 of its Jagdpanthers made it back from the Normandy battle grounds and succeeded to get across the Seine river;

51 Jagdpanthers were assigned to the BoB
Typical for each of the independent army heavy AT battalions , there was only 1 Kompanie with Jagdpanthers, the others had field assault guns or Jagdpanzers IV/70s
6 of these battalions were operational during the BoB. The 560th Army AT Battalion with 25 jagdpanthers and 25 Jagdpanzers IV/70s provided support to the 12th SS Hitler Jugend Panzer Division. During the BoB the 654th was taken from reserve and redeployed to Alsace-Lorraine on Dec 31st 1944. Of the 519th heavy AT battalion attached to the 6th Panzer Army during the BoB, only the 1st Kompanie took part in the campaign.

Camo schemes are extremely varied and include plain dark yellow, green/brown on yellow, green base with secondary yellow/primer and the latter with winter whitewash
In the book " Combat History of Schwere Panzerjäger Abteilung 654" by Andrew Dextras there are over 200 pictures including some nifty combinations like early models with 2piece 8.8cm barrels and lates with one piece monobloc barrels .
Hope this helps to clarify a bit the history of 654th Heavy Panzerjäger Battalion

Good info Guy. Don't tell me you bought the Dextras book - it is very expensive {eek3}

I have this book and a few others and wonder if any inspiration will come from the whitewashed variants that are available or, if K&C will just go with their own winter rendition.

May get one and do a winter version myself

Another wealthy European with $100+ books on minor units. :rolleyes2:^&grin Don't you realize all this book buying is keeping the price of books high. {eek3}^&grin

I have too ask - since you have the book and the 654th fought through the winter, are there any photos of whitewashed JPs? I don't remember seeing any so it may be difficult to do one of an actual JP. Even if there are no photos,some of the JPs must have been whitewashed Winter 1944 - 1945 on the Eastern Front and also in Jan - Feb in the west after B0B.

Look forward to that Mitch.

I just ordered the new Jadg (thanks Julie) on layaway here from treefrog, I really am impressed with this Jadg as it reminds me of the Honour Bound series from awhile back, the detail and painting look really sharp and think it should go really well with my new First legion SS sets, or in a existing Normandy dio maybe two Jadgs being called in for reinforcements, anyway I'll post a few pics when I get it all put together at some point...Sammy

Dear Collectors,

Would someone please post a photo of your jagdpanther? Some details about the tank destroyer would be appreciated as well.

Thanks,

Alex :smile2:
