With the emphasis over recent months being on almost everything but SOHK (thought it was supposed to be one of K&C's most popular lines ), it's given me a bit of time to muck around with my model making and look at other ranges that could compliment my French Indochina idea.

So here are some pix of the progress I've made with my Haiphong harbour scene. The temple facade still needs the final details to be applied and in addition to MacTavish plus a few sailors, I've started adding a few Delprado and Britains Delhi Durbar figures to give it a more cosmopolitan / working port feel. Must admit that the planned releases for the Delhi Durbar series a bit later this year are tempting me to start looking at that range, but hopefully Andy will release something (Chinese pirates maybe?) soon that prevents me from jumping ship... As much as I like and admire all this WW2 stuff I can only take so much of this taunting. ;)

Great pics yeah even tho i dont collect this line i cant remember when there was a new release, must be soon.

Excellent pictures Julian.
Reminds me of the old Hong Kong postcard sets they used to sell (and probably still do) at the book shop at Star Ferry.
You should start a SOHK thread much in the way Ron did with his Napoleonics.
My favourite sets would be the Police Station and police and the five lady musicians which, for the paintwork, are now an absolute bargain. Opium smokers set brings back a few memories although I hasten to add it was for arresting opium smokers in their divans a few times in 1978 ! Usually old and docile and the only thing that upset them was the loss of their pipe which was highly valued and could be very intricate.
Chicago may be of interest.
Regards
Brett

Excellent set up and pics. I especially admire the sepia type effect that adds to the realism.

Thanks guys. Yeah, fingers crossed that there may be a nice surprise or two at Chicago. Anyway, a few more pix

Absolutely terrific pictures Jules, really very nice. Great looking collection you have there.

Rob

Great scene, Jules, I like how you've put it together. I like the sepia-tinting, too. I'm with you, of all of the K&C ranges, I like SOHK the best.

Prost!

Julian

This is an absolutely outstanding accomplishment in every way. Where did you find the European/French colonials?

Are you a fan of the 1992 French film?

I think you will find that overall worldwide sales make the SOHK one of the popular ranges, but not on this forum. My wife has taken over from me collecting this range and has quite a sizable collection now. Here are a few of them mixed in with some Oriental items.

Julian, its always a pleasure to see someone elses SOHK collection. Very nicely done . . . . . . . .
:) Mike

Julian,

you have a wonderful way of putting all these figures together, and then producing some fantastic 'period' imagery from the colonies.

Well done, I'd love to see more of you work,

John

Dear "Jules118":

Great group of photos that I enjoyed looking at. Very unusual theme to your historical display, well done! Amongst my biggest dioramas/displays is my "Streets of Old Hong Kong" circa 1900 on a 29 x 84 inch display area. This is still my wife's favorite display.

Best regards, "Iron Brigade"

Hi jules 118,

Very nice Sepia photographs of a Haiphong Harbour scene with a variety of figures.

Thanks, Raymond.:)

Thanks fellas. I've followed Brett's suggestion and started a dedicated SOHK, China Marines & SOE thread. Hopefully all the other like minded collectors can start to post pix of their collections.

Like the way you've mixed the SOHK with the Oriental items, Jeff... works really well.

The film Indochine. No I have not seen it yet, always meant to, but never got round to it... but have promised myself to watch it this weekend. One of my favorites is Phil Noyce's recent version of "The Quiet American" starring Michael Caine. A lot of it was filmed in Hoi Anh, which is a great little town and that (along with the back alleys of the old quarter in Hanoi) was part of the inspiration for my K&C scene.
