Interesting News from the Detroit Area (1 Viewer)

Dude, this is funny. Its like the toy soldier Homer Simpson play of the day.

I would have taken his credit card and bought Jackson a haircut. He does look like a hobbit.

Maybe the ring made him do it.

Keep it silly

Brad, may I point out he pleaded GUILTY to said crime.
So why do you feel uneasy?
It isn,t like some prison snitch accused him of this misdeed.
Gary

Gary I'm glad you posted the link as it good to know who your buying from ,living in the UK I would of not seen this in the news and would be none the wiser

So if I rob a bank and get caught, all I should do is pay the bank back. Tell them I,m sorry then go about my merry way!
That,s not how it works and I don,t think you are speaking for most.
Gary

Well said Gary, this society can be a little to forgiving at times. The old saying "You do the crime. You do the time" applies to all. The intent was there and the actions were performed. Sorry or not a crime has been commited and for someone to sit back and say oh lets just slap him on his hand and call it a day is crazy talk. I have to wonder if you would say the same if it was you that had been taken for $189,000. personally I would be very upset.

There's an old saying,"sometimes good people do bad things".That isn't saying he shouldn't be punished but it doesn't mean he's a monster either.I just don't understand how he could think that Jackson wouldn't notice.I'm sure a man of Jackson's wealth has accountants who go over his fianaces daily.

That is why he was found out. The accountants are not going to let anyone else skim off the top. That is their job.

It must be hard for forum members that know this guy to come to terms with what he has done. But it's not just a few dollars and must have been carried out over a period of time and so knew what he was doing. Of course he is sorry - he got caught out. No sympathy from me I'm afraid.

Jeff

No one is suggesting no punishment. It is a serious crime. We are just a bit saddened. In my neck of the woods there is a lot in the papers recently about estate agents dipping into the trust funds and lawyers up to similar tricks. I think the temptation to skim a bit is a very real one. The economy is slow and let us be honest the devil does not come to you in your hour of strength.

I,m suprised that didnt make the news here in NZ , the only person I have sympathy for is the victim in this or any crime .

Well Sir Peter Jackson has just been operated on in NZ for a perforated ulcer according to news reports.

A very good point about the $189,000. Had it been mine (ho-ho), I'm afraid I would be totally unforgiving and a little inclined to seek my own form of justice. -- Al

Although in a free society we have the right to generally discuss anything, as guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitition, this thread discussing (and judging in the court of current opinion) a person prominent in the business who made a grievous mistake when there appear to be current court proceedings leaves me rather uneasy.

Yes, the right place for his actions to be judged is court, after all what do we know about this case except for what the media tells us? Innocent until proven guilty.

Have bought from them in the past, no problems at all.

Do you know why he pleaded guilty and under what circunstances?

HEY NOW!!!:D:p

After being a CPA in public accounting my entire career- nothing surprises me anymore- nothing. Not this, nothing.

This damages things on so many levels well beyond Rick and his personal status-

1.) His family has to live with the scorn and humiliation- that in and of itself has always been a good enough reason for me to never commit a crime

2.) His business partners, their families and the families of all their employees- these types of allegations, much less a factual case, cause businesses to fail and ruin their lives;

3.) The hobby takes a black eye- we barely have any brick and mortar shops anymore- this won't help the image of the hobby.

Sounds like he's gonna have a long time to think about this.

To quote Spock "fascinating". Will have to ponder this over a bit. A very unfortunate situation. I have had good results in my dealings with MTSC and I really enjoy their series on you-tube.

Look at my signature Gary and I think that answers your question.

In Lincoln's second inaugural address which is probably one of the greatest speeches ever written, Lincoln, in discussing slavery says that it seems odd to him that men should God's help in "wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces." He then goes on to say the biblical phrase that is my signature.

They were ordering fairly large numbers of sets and then marking them down considerably to push other dealers out. This is what we were told by Andy at a symposium.

MTSC responded by posting their correspondence with K&C on their site and then launched their own series of figures.

Pete,

Yes, I'm well aware of that. If anybody is interested in reading an analysis of the speech, I would suggest Ronald C. White's Lincoln Greatest Speech. Highly recommended. The book is about 200 pages.

If you want a slightly shorter analysis, but no less effective, I recommend Lincoln's Sword by Douglas Wilson: The Presidency and the Power of Words, which won the Lincoln Prize. The book covers the Second Inaugural Address plus many other of Lincoln's significant speeches.

Quite right. And media can hardly be described as accurate. In just about every article I have seen where I know the people or the circumstances involved, there have been multiple and in some cases rather glaring errors. In this case I know the person, not the circumstances. Ricky? Who calls Rick Ricky?? Did the reporter bother to reflect that his actions in sensationalizing (it had the feel of a hit piece) the thing could cost jobs of everyone who works at MichToy? Michigan needs more jobs, not fewer.

This is between Rick and Peter (and the credit card company). The thing about going to jail is that being in jail keeps him from earning money to try to pay it back. That's not helpful at all. Rick made a stupid decision/mistake, but he owned up. He's paying for it. He didn't disappear.

And the forum isn't dead. I'm still there. ;)
