Gents,

Last night I wrote my "Magna Carta" on this thread and it interrupted my viewing experience of watching the San Antonio Spurs put an *** whopping on Portland. Anywho, at this point I will just write some one (or two) line shout outs on this thread. So here is one:

LONG LIVE KING AND COUNTRY, KINGS X, ANDY, LAURA, GORDON, HELEN, KRYSTY, AMBER, MAMA RUTH, ADAM and anyone else who has made this hobby FUN. See you at the show!!!

John from Texas

PS: I am moving on to another post...

Maybe the ages of slavery, absolute monarchy, imperialism and colonization don't have the stink of evil that the Third Reich does. There must be a fascination with the dark side that fuels peoples' interest in vampires, Darth Vader, Shakespeare 's villains, and the Third Reich. From what I see of FB page model makers and reenactors, there is no shortage of people interested in the period and merchants to supply that market.

Captain Jack,

The Australians don't get a pass!!! Bunch a' ex-convicts who shoot Kangaroos and (So I heard) apparently are Foster drinking, wife beating cowboy wanna be's. Oh and by the way, the Outback Steakhouse here is States sucks!!! You call that a Steak? Brother, give me a reason to like the land down under the worlds huevos.

HOWEVER COMMA, Angus Houston is doing a hell of a job looking for the missing plane. The Australian Womens Olympic Beach Volleyballers are freaking hot!!! The Road Warrior is one of my favorite movies and Men at Work are 80's musical legends. Other than I can't wait to visit Australia one and fly on the famous Quantas lines. Will you host this hell raising Texan and take me out on the town?

Let me know,

John from Texas

Yes ... more than welcome to come to Australia. If I know my Texans I have a fair idea of what may interest you. I'm thinking a poetry reading, followed by a lovely vegetarian lasagne and bottled water. Perhaps Sunday morning we could take in an Arts and Crafts Fair sponsored by Greenpeace and Amnesty International. {sm4}

If that does not suit ... we could grab a steak at 'The Breakfast Creek Wharf' (best steaks in the world) and take in a game of Australian Rules Football, the game the real men play. I believe this year they have made it compulsory to wear shoes. We weren't keen - they seemed a bit too much like protective gear which we could not have tolerated.{sm4}{sm4}

Greetings from Downunder:salute:::salute::

Your lucky we have thick skins mate ive got infractions for less...................^&confuse^&grin
hope you have thick skin my friend..............:wink2:^&grin

My father's family lived in Poland. The Germans did come to fight and conquer, but they also rounded up peoples in those conquered territories for extermination.

No other government institutionalized mass murder, GENOCIDE as did the Germans: Freight trains of human cargo, millions of men women and children transported to purposely built death centers. My family was among those rounded up in Poland.

Russians certainly did terrible things, Stalin was a monster but there can be no equivocation that would give the Germans a pass.

I can't possibly say any more about this. Myself and others have made the point as best we could.
Perceive it in your own way.

Genocide -- Ahm, is this news? Shocking unheard of information? Perhaps not...

Good grief, everyone here knows their history. The deplorable actions of Nazi Germany are well known. Ever read "Berlin" by Beevor? The Russian troops were absolute monsters themselves. So getting on your high horse seems a bit much.

Whatever. Be offended. FYI, I personally dont currently collect the Nazi marchers, but Im sorely tempted to after reading your posts....^&grin

Good grief, everyone here knows their history.

Really?? That is news indeed

Is it? You'd argue that most people on this site are unaware of the Holocaust and associated activities?

We can all compartmentalise as we need to. Many put an SS tank and a few infantry on the shelf and see nothing more than a stiff fight about to take place. In this guise they symbolise the elite of the German army more than anything else. I'm not thinking of Hitler when I look at these. Parade figures with the flags and jackboots, even without the regime taking the salute, are different to me. They go too close to celebration, even adoration. I have no problem with anyone who buys them but it's not a range I'd ever feel comfortable owning.

As for the comparisons of the Germans to Russians and Romans, I don't see the issue. Even when I think of epic killers like Tamerlane I see no resemblance. On the question of the worst ever, there is only one name on top of the list - Hitler, by a mile.

Absolutely agree, it's the celebration and adoration of their racism and hatred featured in Parade figures that I have no time for. As you say mate we all make our own decisions and choices and each is as valid as the next guy's, it would be pretty boring if everyone was told what they had to think or collect. We should also remember it was the allies that eradicated Hitler and co to create a free world, so we can collect or not collect anything we please:salute::

Hope all is good with you my friend
Rob

That will probably still happen Pete. I really think this one has run its course.

I'll sum it up...

I'm a Jew, Nazis suck, they were a part of history, uniforms and vehicles are cool regardless, and people can collect whatever makes them happy :)

I just want to add (and sorry to the moderators in advance bc I know you want this to die)
I find it very interesting, hypocritical and plainly a sad comment on the world today that SOME (not making a general statement) of the people who collect and are defending collecting nazi figures are the same people who lambasted me when I asked about Israeli themed figures and the fact that i wanted to collect them. To these people, collecting nazis is ok, but collecting israeli soldiers isn't! Very interesting to me

That being said, I still stand behind my previous comment - Collect what makes you happy!
and
That being said, i still love you all!

Zack, I stand behind you and Israel 100%. Shalom!

One thing that is different about the Nazis is that their uniforms and even many weapons were designed with a propaganda purpose in mind. Hitler was an artist. So the uniforms, flags and weapons were often designed to have visual impact either to promote the political cause or inspire terror. In that respect, it is a valid point that such a display could be interpreted as glorifying the Nazis since that is what the Nazis intended. You don't get that same visual impact with most other armies that were designed with an entirely contrary purpose in mind. To be as non-descript as possible. However, this issue in the toy soldier context is mostly subjective. If someone wants to look at a LAH display and believe it glorifies the Nazis, that would simply be their own interpretation of what they are seeing. Others might look at it and conclude that it represents a dark part of history that should be remembered. In that respect, I don't have any problem with it. Nor do I fully understand what, if anything, is being suggested to be done about it. As several people noted, if you find them objectionable, you can exercise the right not to buy and display them. If anything is questionable about toy soldiers in my opinion, it's probably the fact that they overly sanitize history. Most collectors want to relax and enjoy their collection. They don't want to have displays of more graphic scenes that they might find uncomfortable or objectionable. Understandable. However, it gives an incomplete and often erroneous view of history. Anyone want a display of the Confederates rounding up free black women and children and taking them into slavery during the Gettysburg campaign? Probably not. But it would have a profound educational impact given that many are unware of it.

Good post even the last line, but a counter is also, does anyone want to collect Sherman when he burned his way through Atlanta with his Union troops raping and pillaging all the way? Point being is that War is just that - WAR. I have always said that toy soldiers become like art in a way - they are open to interpretation and because of that, each person should collect what they want for their own reasons. Not everyone will agree with those reasons, but its a free country/world.

Please let's not make this thread into the two bete noires of this Forum: Nazis and the Civil War. Otherwise, Pete will have to pull out the rest of his hair {eek3}
