Japan Earthquake (1 Viewer)

Then thats rather insensitive to say the least and, should be removed. Hope its not fromthe US considering the keg of dynamite the west coast sits on. It should really be there but for the grace of god

The current attempts at "humor" on the parts of politicos, comics, and others are not appreciated. A little humor could be welcome in the right circumstances, but I don't feel that the current crop of "humor" is of any help to anyone. Essentially telling the Japanese to lighten up is, indeed, most cruel.

I read the entire thread and didn't see a single example of this. ^&confuse

No, no, please do not misunderstand me. No one on this thread has contributed anything "comical" about the tragedy in Japan. Far from it. My statement was about people on the national scene who have been making twisted "jokes" about all this and either telling others to lighten up or to say that they were "only joking" and meant no offense. Throughout all this, the Japanese have not been amused

I have seen a collection of Facebook comments saying that Japan had it coming for Pearl Harbor as if two atom bombs, numerous firestorm raids on major cities, defeat of their armed forces, and allied occupation wasn't enough. Dumb and mean isn't pretty.

You are being too nice in saying "dumb and mean isin't pretty" but your sentiment is 100% correct. No one deserves what has happened/happening north-east of Tokyo!

Thats terrible to hear. Have they no pity for all those dying injured and missing. The War ended nearly seventy years ago, nobody deserves this.

Rob

There is always some moron going to make a joke or a twisted comment about a disaster. Apparently the comic who voices the AFFLAC duck posted some junk about Japan. He was immediately fired by AFFLAC. As said before, no one deserves this kind of tragedy. Just hope that all those missing people turn out to be ok. It is shocking just how vulnerable the human race really is, either to natural disaster or man made disaster. -- Al

Just been watching the Beeb news its looking very precarious the situation at the plant. I think its fingers crossed time.

And if the poor people don't need any more its now freezing and snowing

Sales of Geiger counters and potassium iodide supplements that can block some radiation have surged nationwide since Friday, fueled by concerns among some Americans that radiation released from Japanese nuclear plants could spread to the United States.

Pharmacist Donna Barsky measures potassium iodide for a prescription at the Texas Star Pharmacy on Monday in Plano, Texas. The pharmacy has been receiving an unusually high number of calls about potassium iodide from people who are afraid radiation from the Japan nuclear crisis will reach the U.S.

Frightening stuff and, I bet the clowns who have thought it funny and only a japanese problem may now not be so cocky

How on earth would you 'lighten up' after your town ceases to exist and friends and family members swept away never to be seen again, beggars belief . And how anyone links this to WW2 is absurd.

Rob

It beggars belief. But, we seem to be dealing with stupid people. Especially as some of the people who have been saying such things live on the pacific side of the US, which has a whole host of similar issues

There are a few people who like to get a rise by making outrageous statements on the Internet. A combination of attention seeking and the anonymous nature of the technology. Better ignored.

More seriously, you have to wonder how the people who work in those plants are going to fare. My guess is not too good with those radiation levels even if nothing further develops. A heroic effort by those people.

I just heard on the BBC that they are giving the workers at the plant short shifts and rotating them often in an attempt to minimise their exposure as much as possible, but as you say, it looks bleak for these very brave people.

Rob

I heard that also but, they are still going to get prolonged exposure even if they are working short hours. What I could not understand was why they stopped the hellicopters flying for fear of radiation exposure to the pilots yet, those guys are working shifts on the ground.

4000 dead, 12000 still missing. No one can agree on the radiation danger. What must the poor Japanese people think? Boy, I sure hope the Japanese government can get some good info to all the victims of this escalating disaster. -- Al

There isnt one,,inaccurate statements are a waste,,the situation changes by the hour or news channel.very bad or not so bad,,Its assured I believe, the workers, pilots etc have a dim future,as the Russians at the scene did..panic taking of medications in the U. S. seems useless and described as harmful to kids,,its starting to sound like "On the beach",I want to drive in the last race.

There is nothing funny in this. It is very frightening. I am glad I live very far away from the area. I am very saddened by it all. At the risk of being political I have never liked nuclear power and don't want to see it in my continent.
