Gents,

Now that the rape of the world debate is over and the moon landing hoax has been put to rest. I wanted mention that I wasn't born yet, but uh...what was going on on this day you bunch of smarty parties. Since some of you were "there".

Science:

What was I doing in July 69. Attempting to finishmy senior year of college and graduate b/4 I was drafted - my college derferrment ended in early June 69. I sucessfully competed all my college requirements except for a mandatory non credit dance class. I was able to get a waiver on that one and graduated at the end of summer quarter. I startedbasic training at Ft Lewis in October.{sm0}

Watched it on the TV with my family.

Dave
Exactly what I and my family, were doing. Also what my friends did. It seems everyone I knew back then watched this event. It was, quite simply, must see TV. -- Al

I was at this point five years old and had begun my work on string theory, I'd also built a fusion reactor in my bedroom much to my parents.......oh no hang on, that's Sheldon from Big bang theory!

I was probably not watching this moon stuff but was probably still enjoying Miss Rachel Welch in One Million Years BC and also enjoying a promising new beat combo called the Rolling Stones :wink2:

I think that was the date John's parents went out on a date and had fajitas :wink2: As Rick (Humphrey Bogart) might have said in Casablanca, "it was the beginning of a beautiful relationship." As they say, the rest is history ^&grin

Mitch,

On second thought (after a cup of Starbucks and a Chesterfield) I don't want to know why you dislike Texans and Aussies. You don't have to explain your self to little ole me. After up-teen thousand posts, I think everyone here has a pretty good idea who Mr. Mitch is and what he likes and dislikes. So, you are who you are and that is okay by me.

So, I hope you come to Texas sometime for the Texas Toy Soldier Show. If you do I would like to host you as my guest! Allow me to extend some Texas hospitality to you sir. My wife is an excellent cook and that is one of the reasons why I married her. The MTV crib I am building is going to either have a guest house or guest room with all the amenities. You can stay at my humble abode and meet daughter #2 the DIV I soccer player. Asia is a wonder. She has three different colored eyes (blue, green and hazel), charisma and a jokester like her dad. Her smile alone will get through any door and she is only 12. My son, Jaden is a swimmer and too smart for his own self. I think he purposely did not pass the Gifted and Talented test this past year just so he could be a "normal" student for once and he is 11. Ask some of the other collectors who have met him and he has the manners of a butler and always says "sir" and "ma'am"...like his dad. My wife will feed you until you pop and she is..."gulp"...a Californian. We met in Japan and though she is not Asian she enjoys the the Asian culture as much as I do.

My moms (who I take care of) lives with me and make the best homemade tortillas on the face of the earth. There is nothing like the smell of fresh tortilla's on a Sunday morning. She has been making tortillas since she was a kid in the fields as a migrant worker. She's my ma and it is my responsibility as a son to take care of her, so she wants for not. I got twoLabs...Maximus the Brown Lab and Maddie the Blonde. Both are trained by me and are the single most loving dogs. Jedi was my black lab, but he past away last year.

By the time you visit I will have my SOHK diorama/harbor done. Yes, I want to build a harbor. Spoke to Andy about it and we came up with a couple of ideas. All my SOHK is in bins right now, but man Mitch I am actually designing my office around my K&C! I can't wait to get there and no your not allowed to repaint any my figures! LOL. I also will have some mini dio's with some other stuff, but SOHK is my favorite line.

While in Texas I will ensure you get the whole Texas experience, from the Alamo, to the sights, to the FOOD! In addition, if you have any special requests I will accommodate you as much as possible. Say, you want to go to Austin, well its an hour away and we can go to UT or the Capital. Want some mesquite grilled BBQ? We will go to the Salt Lick! Want to visit Mike Miller in Galveston. Lets go! He is three hours away via Houston. Texas is a beautiful state filled with an enormous amount of history and swagger. You would like it.

So, Mitch there you have it my brother.

What I was doing on July 23, 1969? After my stint with the US Army {sm4}, I rejoined with my prior employment at the Continental Insurance Company in NYC, NY. During the month of July 1969, I was an Inland Marine Underwriter with MOAC (at the time known as: Marine Office Appleton & Cox before changing to Marine Office of America Corp) a subsidiary of Continental. This was all prior to my transfer to their International Dept., and eventual move to my first overseas assignment in the Caribbean (late 69). Hobbies like collecting toy soldiers was the farthest thing on my mind, as I was 26 and heavily involved with molding my career.

I'll never forget that day since I was a 8 year old boy living in the DC area and totally in the "I'll be an astronaut when I grow up" phase! Couldn't blink while watching the TV. Unforgettable moment in my life.... Have the Washington Post edition of the moon landing hanging in a frame on my office wall; I guess that says it all! :wink2:

I was living in Bethesda at the time, so we wouldn't have been too far apart. At the time my TS collection consisted of my father's old Britains from the '30's and several hundreds of Marx ACW and WW2 soldiers. You shouda called.^&grin -- Al

John,

No biggie, no rush.

By chance, would you be taking in any of the football matches up in Dallas. I know Real Madrid is going to be there in a week or so.

Brad

I once ate 12 pounds of crawfish...^&grin...

but honestly...that only yields about 2 1/2 pounds of meat...

Mike,

In Dallas...and went to Pappas Steaks last night. Had the Akaushi Steak...a mix of angus and kobe...phenomenal. Terrible au gratin potatoes and one more odd thing. They threw a half saw cut bone on my plate with the marrow and parmesan cheese. Never had that before and for a pretty classy joint with a dress code and all I was a little grossed out. Has that ever happened to you? I have never had the bone thrown on my plate before with the marrow cooked in it.

The wife and I split a 3.5 lbs lobster-steamed with the butta sauce...dayum that was good and came back with a 1/4 lb slice of cheese cake baked in Houston and driven daily to Dallas....so they say!

Bill was $275 and I expected higher. The kobe beef alone was $99 for four ounces, but I have already had kobe in Japan and wanted to try the hybrid kobe and angus and it was **** good. Creamy spinach dish was good, but the bread and potato soup was to die for.

AND probably the best looking hostesses ever. Well, I am in Dallas.

John in Dallas

PS: Ate horse in Japan and didn't know it until afterwards...ate balute [sic] in the Philippines...I know I had dog and cat in Korea...I just know it...ate mystery tuna in Saudi with goat cheese...ate Blow Fish sushi and am still alive...AND when I came home on leave once I ate 12 enchiladas with a dozen avocados and slept afterwards for 15 hours.
