JUST ... KING and COUNTRY American Revolution (2 Viewers)

"So, now you see why we must be on our way back to our encampment. We need to report to General Clark of the skirmish at Stoddard Meadows farm."

"Sir, you do not understand the predicament you are in. It is nearly impossible to pass through these woods without capture."
"As mentioned previously, we were looking for you and hopefully convince your Captain to join forces and together resolve the many pressing issues we now face."

"Strength in numbers and such."

"Agreed ... Then if I may prevail, what is your plan, Sir?"

"Let us discover that now and then we must get back to your men at Stoddard Meadows farm"
"I fear that they may be in GREAT danger."

I got myself a set of those "photo umbrellas" but not sure what type of light bulb to use. That is why I took two shots.
I somewhat prefer the TOP shot, but maybe that is just me.

Any advise from the GREAT DIORAMA MAKERS on lighting?

--- LaRRy ... okay now on with the story.

Robin is right...
you can't have too much light...
I prefer natural sunlight too...
but it's not always available...
so sometimes I supplement with artificial lighting...

Randy...aka Polar Bear...
makes some of the best dioramas on this forum...
he tutored me on lighting years ago...
recommending the energy saver's "daylight" bulbs...
I love them...
these are the one's in the blue boxes...
if he could comment on this...
it would be helpful to all of us...

Listen up fellows ... we need to watch the perimeter for anything suspecious.
Please, take up your positions and shout out when ready.

"The trail approach is covered for 100 yards."
"Hill side secure. Nothing to report."
"Meadow and glen also secure, Allen."

--- LaRRy (RIST40, RIST41, RI43)

Woods and East side trail, nothing to report.

Woods and clearing also safe.

"Same here, Allen, looks quiet and peaceful."

"Other than a possible supper .. hopping by .. at about 50 yards, nothing interesting."

"Secure all around, but may I suggest, Allen, that you get the business at hand completed, so we can get our arses' out of here as soon as possible."

For me Larry, I like bright, so every chance I use natural sun light. That said I find direct sun light does not agree with my camera, so it's all about making the room as light as possible and positioning near to a window. Always looking to bring out the richness of colour that so many figures have, particularly in this series you have here. Crisp clear shots I think is the go, that are well lit. Years ago when I only had a fairly dark dining room to work with before my man cave, I was using a pair of flood lights which worked well, but a pain to set up and position and pack away after every photo shoot. Your photos are coming out fine by the way. Robin

<><><><><><><>

Robin .... I live in Coastal Maine .... when it is not snowing, it is raining; when it is not raining it is foggy; when it is not foggy it is cloudy; so natural sunlight is a rarity for me ...^&grin

My man-cave is unfortunately a dark place. I'll take some shots later.

That is why I purchased a set of three Light Umbrellas. They do seem to work well on close ups, but not so much for distance shots, as in the overall diorama view.

I have been playing with the lights since I started this fun project and finally getting the hang of it.
Before, I took 20 shots and used 5. Now I take 20 and use 15 ... so there is hope for me yet ..:rolleyes2:

[Okay George, I left the door open for you on that commenet .... {sm2}]

After a short discussion, Allen, his Militia officers, and the two Rhode Island soldiers came up with a plan.

* One of the RI soldiers would immediately depart with a handful of Militia back to Stoddard Meadows Farm.

** Three of the Militia would round up all the remaining Militia troops and then head to the Stoddard Farm.

*** The remaining Rhode Island soldier and the Militia leader, Allen, along with the remaining Militiamen would try to hunt out the whereabouts of the British 17th Dragoons.

Then, they would all rendezvous with the detachment of Rhode Island troops.

If all went well, they could surprise the 17th Dragoons and win a stunning victory. If not, a unknown, but terrible fate awaited them all.

The 17TH Dragoons had a different plan and they had a secret weapon .... A SPY within the Militia's ranks .....{eek3}

The foliage and fallen tree add so much to these scenes !

Thank you.

The foliage and fallen tree add so much to these scenes !

Thank you.

Evening Ivanhoe,

One advantage of the American Revolution, in diorama making, is that most battles, skirmishes, fights, etc took place in the woods, meadows, swamps, forests and fields of the colonies.

Although I am 100% going to do the "Battle of Trenton" even that is not a city, in comparison to the WWII guys who show street-to-street fighting.

So, living in Maine affords me the opportunity to pick up 1 Billion sticks if I had just an inkling ... {eek3}
Yes they really add a touch or realism to the shots.

Thank you for the comments ... keep the photos of your K&C AWI sets / collection coming guys.

THE DRAGOON SAGA Continues .....

<><><><><>

When we last left our Patriot Rebels, they refused to divulge the whereabouts of the Militia encampment, its strength or any information that might be of use to the British 17th Dragoons.
After finding a cache of rifle and gun powder the Dragoon Captain, gives the 3 Patriots two choices; provide him the information he requested or they will be executed and their women sent off with the Indian leader, Maguya, and his band of murderous British allies.

The Patriots refuse to speak so the execution order was given .....
{sm2}

<><><><><>

"Move it along men, move it along. Step to it! We haven't got all day."

"Listen up, men. Form two ranks, here and here."

--- LaRRy (Exec01, Exec02)

"I want you Corporal Wemms, Private Hartigan, Private McCauley and Private White in rank one in the front."
"Then Private Kilroy, Private Warren, Private Carrol and Private Montgomery in rank two to the rear. FORM UP!"

--- LaRRy (Exec03, Exec04, Exec05)

"Detail ... HALT!"

"Captain Preston, Sir, the execution detail men are here. Do you wish to take over the process?"

"No Sergeant, continue with getting the men in order. I will be with you shortly.
I am going to make one last attempt to appeal to saner minds on the stupidity of continuing this situation.
Carry on."

"YES, Sir"

"Ladies, I implore you examine the circumstances which we now find ourselves. You still have it within your power to put an end to this madness and simply give me what I want."

"Do you really wish to witness the execution of your men and then be turned over to ... him?" :redface2:

"It is probably a fate worse than being shot, I am afraid to say."

"We have no knowledge to give you, and even if we did, the fate of betrayal to our husbands and our principles would prevent me from doing so."

"THEN ... their blood and your captivity is totally on your head. I wash my hands of this insanity."

--- LaRRy (Exec06, Exec07)

"Sergeant, proceed as ordered. The execution will commence."

"Yes, Sir."

--- LaRRy (Exec08)

"Sir, the men are in position. I need an officer to give the final order to carry out the execution of the three rebel prisoners."

"Very good, Sergeant. I will be with you in a moment."

"Oh, Sarah, how did it all come to this. <Sobbing> Is there nothing we can do, anything?"

"Strength, Mary dear, we need to show strength for Joseph, Kendell and Elijah."
"Though my heart is breaking and I no longer care what happens to me, I will never fail my beloved husband."
"And I KNOW that neither will you ... no matter how painful. May God bless us and our husbands and friends."

Can there be a last minute rescue in the wind, if not, it does not bode well for these three. Robin.

Hi LaRRy,

I've to say... I wouldn't like to be in their shoes. This is a very spooky moment, because we're now making contact with the Death! {sm2}

Keep in touch

Enrico :)

P.s.: as always I love your pictures:eek:

Ahhhh ... yes ... but what will happen to our Patriots and their wives ? ...^&confuse
Tune back in this afternoon (or evening for you, sir) and discover what fate awaits or loyal band of Patriots!
