JUST ... KING and COUNTRY American Revolution (1 Viewer)

My first thought, like Mike Miller, was wow, Larry has a lot of wagons. I can imagine Larry ordering the sets. "I'd like to order the set with the wagon." "I want to order seven of them." What? "You heard me, seven!" "Now about that mounted soldier with the horse eating grass....I guess four would do." All kidding aside, nice diorama.

Actually, GforB you got that pretty accurate.
Not really all at once but as each month rolled around I would order a BR or AR figure and ONE CART. Next month an AR or BR and ONE CART.
Andy finally ran out of carts .... {sm2}

Sorta' the same with the mounted sets. Actually I have one more Mounted Dragoon with rifle that I didn't remember to include as he is in another diorama at the moment.

Thank you for the words, sir! {sm4}

hahaha...well...they are nice wagons...and they certainly make the scene more interesting and busy...I'm gonna have to get a couple of them if Larry hasn't cornered the market on them...

Howdy Folks,
To answer the PM on the diorama ....

The AWI Figures are all King & Country AWI AR/BR series .... except two. (Which you will see soon)

The Tractor shed is JG Miniatures

The cabin is a foam base that I painted. I picked it up at a show a long time ago.

The stone walls are JG Miniatures (white) and Department 56

The backdrops are from eBay by a vendor called LuLu's Trains and Traverse Dynamics

The ground mats are .. One from JG on the right and the others are made by me with bags of moss from Hobby Village

The trees and shrubs are JG Miniatures and from Department 56 plus others made by me from the Maine woods.

The roads are (unknown makers) that I picked up at a train store, BUT I just found out that George at Minutemen sells them. (GEORGE add to this please.!!!!)
They come a basic brown but I painted them.

Boxes are from Pegasus Hobbies Item#5212

Guns are from Imrie /Risley and painted by me.

Other accessories such as wood stacks, tables are made by me.

Hope that helps. ....

Larry,
I viewed this thread last night.........................just terrific, you've done some outstanding work here.

You've got the largest K & C AWI collection I've ever seen, nice to see you enjoying your collection.

Also excellent presentation, camera work and set ups; nice to see you keeping in practice for Chicago..................:wink2:

Maybe you should lay out all the room displays, you've got a terrific knack for getting all the little things right that make a display pop...............^&grin

Been a pleasure to view this, please keep this thread going, maybe roll out your older K & C AWI figures and do a large battle with them........maybe Yorktown with that redoubt you bought from me a year or so ago?

As far as the roads; you did a great job of painting those, they look much better painted than as the actual production examples, they need to be painted.................

Here are some of my shots. The AWI was fun to play around with when the figures were $17-$25 a pop. I never got the diorama scenics I wanted to really make this thing pop- Rome and Greece are taking my time nowadays but I do still dip my toes when I can!

Thanks ever so much my Friend ...

I think 90% of the K&C AWI sets came from YOU at Minutemen Toy Soldiers ....{eek3}

YES ... I fully intend to go with ALL the K&C AWI sets, both the older legacy and the new releases. Truth be told I am a bit partial to the older sets as they are more TOY SOLDER like ... but the newest ones are simply beautiful.

After this series of photos and story, I intend to use the Redoubt as a focal point between the NY and RI troops against the British Lincolnshire and Fusiliers ... maybe a few Indians for color ...? :confused:

The roads are an excellent start but do need to be custom made to each scenario or diorama setting. Nice thing about them is they are easy to paint, simple to cut, flexible and cost effective solutions to trying to build a road each time out of ... whatever. Maybe for a "permanent display constructing a road is a way to go but ... we'll see.

I remember when we first started doing business you were also into WWII Battle of the Bulge and Africa Corps, now you're much more focused with AWI and the Far East and that's it.

Looking forward to the large battle scene with that redoubt, should take a while to lay it all out, but it will be worth it..................

CHRIS! Wonderful display of a fantastic collection of K&C AWI sets. Looks like you have a few of the vintage AWI sets along with the newer releases ... nice, very nice.

Also, you did the same thing that I did in mine, use the JJD women. GREAT MINDS IN SYNC!!!^&grin
I haven't got to the up close in mine yet, but you can see them in the total diorama view. Plus you got a set of the JJD settlers which I still need to get ...:rolleyes:

AND .. nice use of the Britains Civil War house. I gotta' get me one of those also.

I might grab a few ideas from your display here, as that is going to be similar to what I have in mind .... I need some pumpkins and wood in my barrels ...{sm4}

THANK YOU very much, Chris, for making such a GREAT :salute:: contribution to this thread.

Keep them coming guys ... errr... and ladies if we have any ...:rolleyes:

Hello Larry

thank you for the very kind words- and incredible displays in your own right!!! KC often takes a hit as being too "colorful" I think the colors really POP with the AWI figures. They look really neat when done en masse.

Yes, the Britains building is useful in so many ways as I have done some displays in the past using Frontline's "Colonial Classics" line as well. The JJD set is one of my alltime favorites - the little boy holding his pig is just cute. I thought that set could be very provoking as it showed how the AWI was sometimes taking place right in the front yards of colonial homesteads.

The NY officer firing his pistol is still one of my all-time favorites.

One of the criticisms I have faced over the years on these pics is that it looks a little "Attack of the clones-ish"- perhaps, but when those figures were $21/pop it made it easy.

The British casualty figures were a little top heavy so presented a challenge at times. The NY Regiment flagbearer could be a challenge as well.

AND, dare I say, but I note that your reply to me was your 1,774th post!!! Wonder what post "1776" will bring!!! :) :)

Oh, and regarding the "pumpkins" {sm4}- my son or daughter (Cannot remember anymore) did them as part of an art project- they are wildly overscale (or perhaps Mass soil was very very fertile that month! {sm4}) but they are a fun touch and connection with the kiddos.

Great set ups Chris.........thanks for sharing them! I too find that K&C and JJD mix quite well and often use them in the same scene.

Mark

Larry,

Wow!!! Your Dragoon set up is pretty awesome!! Your collection is to be both envied and admired.

Love the detail you put into the scene and the story you tell. I know setting that thing up took a lot of work but it certainly paid off.

Thanks so much for this thread as I am enjoying it immensely. Looking forward to all the other things you have to share.

Mark

Continue with the King and Country Dragoon ...

After a brief rest the Dragoon supply column must move out to supply Lord Cornwallis and his beleaguered British Southern Army.
