Hello. Longtime collector of toy soldiers here who displays his collection in cases and cabinets. Along the way I have collected a lot of boxes for King & Country and other manufactures. What I would like to know is what the heck do you all do with the boxes!!!!!! Do I just toss them? Store them?

thanks guys.

If you ever intend to resell them, you should keep the boxes as it increases value. Even if you don’t plan to sell them, you should keep the boxes, especially if you ever move.

I resolved my empty box delima last July. I rented a 10'x10' climate controlled self-storage unit. Freed up lots of room in my basement office and display area. Also storing holiday decorations in the unit.

Chuck them out it's only a box if someone won't buy the piece because it hasn't got the original box they can't want it too badly.
I felt liberated after I parted with all my boxes it was ridiculous hanging on to them all.
Makes me laugh seeing people selling empty boxes on eBay, it's a box the only boxes I have kept are for delicate items EG Figarti and I have shifted a rather large collection twice with limited boxes.'
If you can afford a storage unit for boxes good luck to you as for what happens to your collection after your dead.................................who cares you are dead.

Some want the box, I for one do not care and do not keep them as I have few thousand figures and no way

can store such a large amount.

The only good thing about the original box is if you sell safe for the figure

regards
Trevor

I agree laugh selling empty boxes and the , well mean this in a polite way, idiots who purchase boxes and high cost as well

like were storing ancient artifacts

Thank you all for your advice and thoughts. I won’t be selling my collection and don’t care about what happens with it when I am dead. Resale lol. I will have a large amount of paper recycling this upcoming week. Lol

Keep the boxes, life, as we have found out in the last year or so, is very unpredictable, you say you will not sell, i said that about so many ranges and sets, such as W Britains Zulus, War of the Nile, Clash of Empire, K & C Pike & Musket, T Gunn French Foreign Legion and Aussie/Japanese range, but i got fed up of them and sold them, they are worth more in the box, whether or not you feel that is stupid it is true. Plus you may move, you say you will not but who knows for sure......

After you have thrown off this mortal coil - the guy who wrote no one cares is taking a massive leap into generalisation, someone will care, your family and/or friends, maybe not about the figures but about the funds it could raise, you would not burn money, so why get rid of the boxes. Plus if there is no one to leave them too, do as i know a few collectors have done in the UK, they have left them to a charity [some to military veteran charities], most charities are clued in now and be able to get an expert to look through them and sell them on.

The only reason i can think of to get rid of the boxes is having no room, which is understandable. Mine are all in the attic or the garage, just get some boxes, shops and supermarkets throw loads away, to store them in.

I have a large collection, insured for a six figure sum, the boxes do not take up to much room, just a bit of organising, i am a bit of geek when it comes to storing, they are store by range in different boxes, once a box is full and labelled what is in it the box it can be put under eves of the attic of the house or garage and forgotten.

I display my dioramas on kitchen units in my loft. Inside the cupboards I keep my boxes.

Where to store the boxes is definitely a dilemma... As noted previously, having the boxes increases value and keeps the items safe when stored, however, I’ve filled the attic in my house and now a good part of my garage with boxes for collectibles (I collect a lot more than just premium metal toy soldiers). I’m getting to the point I may need to get a storage unit like Mike said he has. While a part of me doesn’t want to rent a storage unit just to hold empty boxes, doing so will free up more space for more empty boxes at my house 😉

Excellent idea on the charities - although one hopes to crack on for a bit longer!

I keep the boxes until the figures are put and fixed in a permanent diorama;

Let me give you my "semi-dealer" perspective. I have a large collection and nowadays when I add to it, a lot of times, I buy an entire collection to obtain a few items. Why you ask? One is b/c I don't like to cherry pick collections unless that is how someone is selling it and Two - it sometimes can pay for a purchase. So that said, my perspective is if you don't have the boxes, I get really disinterested in a large collection. Boxes prevent damage and they increase resale value, so whether it is for storage, for resale or for transport, the boxes are a big PLUS 99.9% of the time. So, regardless of how you feel now about something, those are the cold hard facts. One time, I had a person ask me to take their collection as they had no boxes and they wanted it gone. I resisted b/c of potential damage, etc. Well, you guessed, I took it b/c it was small, but let me tell you those 30 Pieces were the biggest headache I have ever dealt with. I pack things as if they were a Mummy, I really take my time, but previous damage and transport without boxes took its toll on those figures. It was the biggest waste of time I ever had in the hobby.

Long story short - keep the boxes wherever possible.

One other comment, if you are a trophy collector or an aeroart collector - those boxes are worth good money. And no, idiots are not buying them they are the best way possible to store either of those figures and believe it or not, they are scarce to find empty.

I would have couple thousand boxes if kept, if you have the room and can store them so insects and rodents cannot get to them great

but most cannot, up to each individual

I would love to meet the person who would re-box a thousand+ figures in their original boxes to shift??
It would take more time than shifting a house full of furniture etc.
Like I said I had ALL my boxes came time to shift looked at boxes and all my figures and thought no way am I going to re-box then unpack them again so out they went.
But if your one of those collectors that store their figures in their boxes and not on show (I don't get that) that is different, as for re-sale if you really really want a piece and it doesn't have a box you can't want it too badly.

Still hanging onto my boxes, sometime in future I will want to thin out from my collection themes that I've don't still have the enthusiasm that I once had or themes that manufacturers stopped to such as Conte's NW Frontier !

Steve

I keep the boxes in case I want to sell something off. I agree they keep the figures safer but they are so space consuming. I have a mate that I reckon likes the boxes more than the figures. I wish I didn’t need them taking up space
