KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- March 2019 (2 Viewers)

Nothing in the NEW Releases this month, but I better get my butt in gear and get some of those "Supply Depot Barrels"
I just hate retirements  … ya' I know they have to happen, but jeeezzz.

Next time you see them for sale, they are on eBay for $10,000.00 --- RARE item. One left! Super hard to find! {eek3}

Hi Larry.
If you don't have enough barrels, assuming you already have a barrel to use as a form, you can always make some yourself by using the metal seal from bottles of wine. ^&grin.
Best done a day or two after finishing the wine ^&grin

OH! So maybe there is my problem! I try to make ALL the barrels .. BEFORE .. I finish the bottle of wine ..

So, I can't quite picture the method of using the metal seal and a barrel form to end up with the final product … :rolleyes2:
I have had some success using a dowel and wire , or silicate (moisture absorber) holder or other items I find around the house.

The optimum word is "some" success, however.

Better make sure you get some barrels, Larry. ^&grin
This makes me laugh.
After dispatches today, I placed my order of some past figures I missed. Collecting the WWII USMC, I needed a catch-up month. I'm sure, Steve (Horus) has a few of those 'Nam figures (esp. the dog) on his wish list.
It's an expensive hobby when you're a completest.

Oh no, I am not a completest … I just HAVE TO HAVE at least one of each … :rolleyes2: .. Oh Wait!!!!:wink2:
Fortunately, I had a somewhat limited number of series I collected. Just a short while ago it was only FIW <-> AWI <-> and War 1812.

Then K&C came out with the WWII Japanese Navy (I'm in trouble)
Then K&C came out with the WWII USMC sets (I'm in deep doggie do-do)
Then K&C came out with the WWII Navy series (I'm now up the proverbial stream without a paddle)
Then John comes out with the Bunker Hill planes / Decking and Crew. (Stick a fork in me Ethel … This TURKEYs done ..{sm2})

Oh well, at least I die a very happy man!!

I envision the boat (or barrel) going over Niagara Falls. {sm2}

The VN figures are fantastic! It's not a range I collect, but I don't know if I can continue to hold out. The figures are just too good, and there are so many interesting poses. I would really love to see this sculptor's talents put to use on Bulge figures as was done w/ the IDF and USMC lines. I think BoB figures sculpted by this artist would sell like crazy!!
Sorry for the Bulge plug, but it's my favorite range and a wish of mine.:smile2: But I digress. Great job w/ the VN line K & C!

I preordered the K9 handler set and I'm afraid that once it comes I may be sucked in. One good thing about it though is that I won't have to spend the money on the VC and I'll only have to focus on the US and Australians.

Hi Sahara, would't you want some opposing forces though?

Nope, my family lost to many in this conflict. If my father or Uncles were to come over and see VC on display they would be pissed off and I wouldn't blame them one bit. I have no desire to collect the VC. Just my own personal outlook.

I see; completely understand.

Well, at least they're not LAH...………...:wink2:

Had family fighting on both sides of this conflict. Wehrmacht though. Interesting enough there is a family castle in Germany where my mother's side of the family is from that was steam rolled by Pattons Army. It is totally rebuilt today and it is in my bucket list of places to visit when I retire.

Would have expected to see the late Stug III with sideskirts. I know, "never say never" but an ordnance yellow vehicle with zimmeritt takes us to 1943 onward and during that time frame schurzen were the norm. Would have preferred if it had the brackets for the skirts, even if the skirts were missing.
Love those KGL light cavalry...

“KING & COUNTRY DISPATCHES”
March 2019

Hi Guys,
WELCOME to this month’s “DISPATCHES”. As per usual there is a colourful and eclectic mix of widely different eras and historical subject matter to choose from and so we’ll begin with... WW2.
1. BEING RELEASED THIS MARCH...

A. ‘A WINTER WARRIOR’

Most armies, given the choice, prefer NOT to fight their wars and battles in wintertime... It’s cold, miserable, damp and the daylight hours can be very short.
All that being said the decision where, and importantly, when armies ‘take to the field’ is usually left for their commanders to decide.
Two of the most uncomfortable locations to fight a winter battle or a campaign in was the Eastern Front between 1942 and 1945 and the Ardennes Forest in December 1944.

BBG118 “The Winter STUG Ⅲ”
As many collectors know the Sturmgeschutz Ⅲ more commonly referred to as the StuGⅢ was Germany’s second most-produced armoured fighting vehicle during World War 2.
Built on the chassis of the already-proven PanzerⅢ , it replaced the Panzer turret with an armoured, fixed superstructure mounting a more powerful 7.5cm main gun. This was originally intended as a mobile assault gun for direct-fire infantry support. Later, the StuGⅢ adopted in addition another role, similar to that of the Jagdpanzer... tank destroyer!
As secondary armament the StuGⅢ mounted the tried and tested MG34 machine gun complete with protective shield.
Approximately 10,000 StuGⅢ’s of various types were built between 1942 and 1945 with the vast majority being supplied to the Wehrmacht. Small numbers were however sold to Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain and Hungary. A few even turned up in Syria and took part in the 1967 Arab / Israeli War.
This “winterized” StuGⅢ has been given by its crew a ‘winter whitewash’ coat of camouflage and could be placed somewhere in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944... or perhaps on the Russian Front in the latter half of WW2.

SPECIAL NOTE: Just 200 of this version are available and each one comes with a well-wrapped up vehicle commander scanning the horizon for any enemy activity.

AVAILABLE: Early March

This looks quite nice as do the Vietnam figures ^&cool

The Stug does look nice. There doesn't seem to be the panicked rush to buy these limited editions, though, like I recall from a several years ago. The winter Tiger and Rommel's Greif, for example.

The toy soldier market of today is very different from the market of 15 years ago. The Winter Tiger WS070(SL) is still one of the all time most popular sets even though there have been dozens of Tiger versions produced by several manufacturers since then. It was limited to 999 sets - a huge number compared to the size of releases today. Rommel's GREIF AK029(SL) was limited to 750 sets. The just released Winter Stug III BBG118 looks like a repaint of BBG049. I think it looks well done but hardly special even limited to 200 sets.
