KING & COUNTRY DISPATCHES -- March 2023 (1 Viewer)

Some interesting and colorful releases this month. I'd really like to see an Aussie version of the new Huey.

At least now I know who Celia Molestrangler is. Sounds like somebody who should be reported to the RSPCA!

Great news on coming Huey.

The Vietnam series should be VERY ‘US centric’.

58,220 Americans died in that war.

I will concide it was an American war, as you did start it. it must one of few conflicts which do not follow the doctrine that the winner writes the history. There are thousands of books written by the Americans, few from the victors side. But like Afganistan [the Brits only know too well], the people in Vietnam just melted away and buried their weapons, just like after the French, who also got a kicking, left and waited.

Lets not forget the 250,000-300,000 South Vietnam troops that died or the 2 million plus civilians and 1 to 1.5 million North Vietnam combatants that died. But many Americans seem to forget them or too ignorant to care. Laos 200,000 and up to 500,000 Cambodians who died in being bombed by Americans, but these two do not count as the US were not even at war with them, just bombed them anyway.

Grunts on the ground were let down, Lions led by Political Fools [interesting it was Nixon who began the pull out and Kennedy that started it] and lack of support from home, by people who cared more their new car or washing machine and their kids were not going, while others were just bothered about screwing the system and demonstrating. Which was connected to the movement as the US had sucked up all the men to fight from the US ethnic groups and lower socio-econmic groups that had no power or the political class did not about. Now it was time for those from the middle and upper white American class to serve and that was not meant to happen, so demonstrate or get your dad to pay a dodgy doctor to say you have bone spurs.

War, like many, had no purpose, except the need for the US to have an enemy, to keep the military manufacturers going and for the US to feel superior. Plus it was to keep the Commie out and the war was about interferring with the South East Asian political system, strange how these things come around, foreigners interfaring with countries politics/elections in one way or another.

Just for some perspective as well, the British army had 57,470 casualties, with 19,420 killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Between July 1st and November 18th 1916, the British Army had 95,675 killed and that was just one battle the British were involved in at the time.

The conflict i fought in, 7 years British Army [Scottish Regiment], was a dirty, horrible, vendictive slug fest Over The Water in Northern Ireland. In the 70s we were told we were there to protect, after all it was the Catholics we were originally sent to protect. I remember a US politician complaint about what would happen if the British went 'Down South' [of which there were no plans], while a few years before they were bombing neighbouring countries to Vietnam who they were not at war.

I guess this is a longwinded way of saying your persepective that it should be a very American series because 58,220 Americans died is actually a bit crass and thoughtless.

It is a series that represents an important war and ofcourse, one which will sell. Buying ranges is not country/nationally specific, I collect Samurai Warriors but am not Japanese. I can see where this month’s releases are primarily aimed at the US collector, but so what. Some people on the forum cannot or do not realise Andy is running a business and the US is the biggest single country market and he is rightly and cleverly targeted his resources where the customers are. Plus in the last few months we have had German SS and British WW2 Western Europe, so not US centred. K & C releases are cyclical and we all have to be patient.

I do love Otto von Bismarck. Just a great figure. Nice work K&C.

Cheers,
Grey

I doubt that Obee/John meant his US centric comment to be derogatory, nor do I blame Panzer Ace for reminding us of the huge US commitment to the Vietnam War.

As for you 'kings of Alt Clut', how close to the 'Russia House' are you? It's easy to be objective about a war when you're not involved, you believed that you were sent to Northern Island to 'Protect the Catholics', yeah right :rolleyes2:. To paraphrase a famous quote; war is politics by other means. Was the Falklands war really necessary? Or was that war promoted to boost the image of a failing Female Prime Minister? By the way, the US helped the UK win that war, something that is often overlooked.

My perspective actually comes from a recent conversation I had with my uncle who served two combat tours in Vietnam.

I asked him if he ever met any Australians during his time in Vietnam and he said no. Then I asked if he met any allied combatants from other countries when he there. He took a long drink from his beer, looked away for a moment and said no he does not remember meeting anyone from other countries. Then he looked away again and said all he remembers is countless dead Americans, many of whom were his friends.

We just sat in silence drinking our beers after that.

........Guys lets not be sucked into the 'virtue signaling' of our multiple profiled friend, who for reasons only known to him takes great pleasure in winding members up.

Please don't waste any time on this member.

I've never met either PA aka Jason or Obee aka John, however know them to be true gentleman and have corresponded with both over the years and are most honorable men and regard them as mates.

Why is it always the K and C monthly despatches thread that invariably ends up in an unpleasant exchange ?

I like Toy Soldiers, can we please talk about them. That is what i come on here for, lets just obsese about the geeks that like the Tiger 1 [joking], moan because there is no releases, or too many releases, for us and ask the question all manufacturer hate and get multiple times per week - "Why don't you make this......insert name of figure/tank/plane........".

The other stuff can go on Twitter, or 'Twatter-who cares what you think!' as we used to call it at work.

Yep I reckon our Aussie forum mates must think this multiple profiler is the original Whinging Pom with his troll like actions does seem to be intent on destroying the pleasure this forum brings to other members.

My advice to him would be to try your best not bring your personal frustrations to the forum Graham. We all have them try leaving your problems at the door so to speak, it can help us forget about them for a while as it did me whilst feeling a bit blue from a family bereavement a few years ago.

Discussing the War is worthwhile and as I lived through those times it was an important part of my life. However, in my opinion this thread is not the place to do it and I’m not the forum is the right place either. I read Kings post and let’s just say it has numerous errors and biases.

All,

Late to this...ANDY GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!

I will be making my way to Kings X for some more Cattle Drive as I received a whole bunch as Christmas presents. I just got to thin out some soldiers to make room. Love the Sphinx and will get one...or two.

John from Texas

Those Vietnam pilots look very interesting and well done.

Very Apocalypse Now, a great film.

Though not my era of collection, so hoping for some WW2 next time!!

Nothing for me this month, but that's alright. I've got plenty of Napoleonics to get caught up on. That figure of Bismarck is really nice and tempting...

Interestingly, about 10 years ago I did a polla sling who would buy certain new ranges if K&C creste them. Among these were:

Falklands and Vietnam

Lots of members on here gave it:

'No way, the Falklands were horrible'

And

'No way, the Vietnam war was horrible'.

It's funny how ten years can make such a change, but glad to see both ranges flourishing.

Can't help myself. I'm bored enough to reply to this post with all its rubbish.

Paragraph 1: What's your point?!
P#2: A legitimate anti-war point.
P#3: Ike, a hero of mine, started it because the communists were starting anti-US/Western trouble. Then each pres. became engaged more. Also, respectful protesters were the norm and professional black and white soldiers respected each other and died for each other. Some of the wealthy escaped war - not for the first time in History.
P#4: War is usually senseless. It is also expensive and rarely profitable for society or the economy as a whole. While the US has interfered in elections, particularly in Central America & Near Asia, our intentions were not entirely evil. Again, there was the Cold War and strategic necessity. Not that the USA should be excused all together; but, again, what's your point? Would you have done better?
As for the rest, what are you saying about the Troubles in Ireland? Why do you always post something negative on Andy's New Releases thread?
Most Forum members are already ignoring you. I will start after I read your reply.
Paddy, who understands an occasional rant but doesn't like a troll

I'd love to see some deals/discounts on your Awesome ME Chinese. Or some new releases...
They would be great adversaries for the Mongol ranges...
Best Wishes, Andy
Paddy for the Pats
