At least now I know who Celia Molestrangler is. Sounds like somebody who should be reported to the RSPCA!
Great news on coming Huey.
The Vietnam series should be VERY ‘US centric’.
58,220 Americans died in that war.
I will concide it was an American war, as you did start it. it must one of few conflicts which do not follow the doctrine that the winner writes the history. There are thousands of books written by the Americans, few from the victors side. But like Afganistan [the Brits only know too well], the people in Vietnam just melted away and buried their weapons, just like after the French, who also got a kicking, left and waited.
Lets not forget the 250,000-300,000 South Vietnam troops that died or the 2 million plus civilians and 1 to 1.5 million North Vietnam combatants that died. But many Americans seem to forget them or too ignorant to care. Laos 200,000 and up to 500,000 Cambodians who died in being bombed by Americans, but these two do not count as the US were not even at war with them, just bombed them anyway.
Grunts on the ground were let down, Lions led by Political Fools [interesting it was Nixon who began the pull out and Kennedy that started it] and lack of support from home, by people who cared more their new car or washing machine and their kids were not going, while others were just bothered about screwing the system and demonstrating. Which was connected to the movement as the US had sucked up all the men to fight from the US ethnic groups and lower socio-econmic groups that had no power or the political class did not about. Now it was time for those from the middle and upper white American class to serve and that was not meant to happen, so demonstrate or get your dad to pay a dodgy doctor to say you have bone spurs.
War, like many, had no purpose, except the need for the US to have an enemy, to keep the military manufacturers going and for the US to feel superior. Plus it was to keep the Commie out and the war was about interferring with the South East Asian political system, strange how these things come around, foreigners interfaring with countries politics/elections in one way or another.
Just for some perspective as well, the British army had 57,470 casualties, with 19,420 killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Between July 1st and November 18th 1916, the British Army had 95,675 killed and that was just one battle the British were involved in at the time.
The conflict i fought in, 7 years British Army [Scottish Regiment], was a dirty, horrible, vendictive slug fest Over The Water in Northern Ireland. In the 70s we were told we were there to protect, after all it was the Catholics we were originally sent to protect. I remember a US politician complaint about what would happen if the British went 'Down South' [of which there were no plans], while a few years before they were bombing neighbouring countries to Vietnam who they were not at war.
I guess this is a longwinded way of saying your persepective that it should be a very American series because 58,220 Americans died is actually a bit crass and thoughtless.
It is a series that represents an important war and ofcourse, one which will sell. Buying ranges is not country/nationally specific, I collect Samurai Warriors but am not Japanese. I can see where this month’s releases are primarily aimed at the US collector, but so what. Some people on the forum cannot or do not realise Andy is running a business and the US is the biggest single country market and he is rightly and cleverly targeted his resources where the customers are. Plus in the last few months we have had German SS and British WW2 Western Europe, so not US centred. K & C releases are cyclical and we all have to be patient.
