KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- September 2018 (3 Viewers)

Wow .. Andy ... the treasures keep coming and coming .... The new WWII Pacific Japanese sets are on my list.
Glad to see the new Japanese Tank Ha-Go, the Howitzer, the Japanese causalities and the surrendering sets. My USMC sets are greatly out numbering the Japs. BUT ... as you pointed out a while ago, that is actually historically correct.

[ANDY] .. any chance you can bring a box of the K&C Xclusive JN Surrendering sets to Chicago, for us guys who can't wait!!!!
I'll take at least TWO sets then and there ... {sm4}

Many Thanks
---LaRRy

Recently i re discovered the Ford's classics. I love the Cavalry trilogy (oh well, actually i watched only the first 2) but "The Searchers" is my favourite John Ford's movie. Any chance of seeing in the future John Wayne as Ethan Edwards? Or the great Ward Bond as Rev. Capt. Samuel Johnson Clayton? Or Hank Worden as Mose Harper? :)

If I was to venture into another era it would be 'John Ford's' US Cavalry, great figures! George O'Brien played Captain Collingwood and also Major Mac Allshard in 'She wore a yellow ribbon' which I believe to be a better movie, but only just as all Ford's movies are classics.

Agree mate very tempting but no

Hopefully, some time in the future we will see a mounted Captain Brittles (John Wayne) figure join the range.

I would like to see Captain Brittles join the column also in his cavalry blues or even at the end of "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" in his civilian buckskins when he was appointed Chief of Scouts with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

And that my friends is the story so far this month, except, of course to let you know about the latest ‘retirees’, here they are...

2. BEING RETIRED THIS MONTH...

PnM039 The Cardinal

I'm a bit surprised to see the Cardinal go, as he's a fantastic model and an essential character to the Musketeers range. Though perhaps this means a new model for him is in the pipeline? A mounted version perhaps or non-combattant version of him?

That VN sniper looks great. Really nice sculpting throughout, particularly the hands.

While we're at it, how about a mounted 2LT O'Rourke and SGT Quincannon?

No disrespect, but when i see a British governor uniform , since i watched "Water" i think to Michael Caine as Governor Baxter Thwaites of the little state of Cascara...

Joe:

I agree 100%. It is the best of the bunch, among some other very high quality figures and sculpts in this month's dispataches.

Nothing in particular for me this month, but those Vietnam figures are really growing on me. The Great War Australian soldier is also very well done.

Jason,

I really like all of the sculpts of the VN US figures. The person doing these has a wonderful grasp on anatomy and is able to translate that knowledge, along with Andy's design ideas, into these little 3D treasures. It's just wonderful work as are the sculptures in the IDF, USMC, and DD ranges (particularly the Pvt. Ryan pieces). It keeps me excited for future releases too.

Thankyou Joe for your kind and appreciative words...Our Two main sculptors have been with us for many years and are the guys who have sculpted ALL of the figures you are liking.

Speaking personally as the designer of same figures I too have been energised by the visual references we have been discovering that have clearly influenced all of the work...And maybe it's also the creative boost of doing subjects that are not primarily WW2...Whatever it is the results are very gratifying and appear to be finding a warm welcome among many collectors worldwide.

Best wishes and...Will we see you in Chicago..?
Andy.

Andy,
You're welcome. It's good that you're able to hold onto your sculptors. I can see the results in the stylistic continuity across ranges. That's great to know you continue to find energizing resources for your creative direction, are enjoying inspirational work outside of the realm of WWII, and getting a good reaction from us who enjoy these little metal men and women so much. Unfortunately I won't be in attendance at the Chicago show but will try hard for next year. Thank you for asking and I wish you wonderful time there! I wish I could be there. I always look forward to seeing what will be unveiled at CTSS. Do you have plans for more IDF female soldiers btw?
Cheers,
Joe

Is this the second (and the case could be made possibly third if you count the glossy CBG's from the 90's) iteration of the exact same figures that were released some time ago from KC - RnB013, RnB014 and RnB015 but at a fraction of todays cost? I've literally got the exact same three figures sitting on my Roman battlefield at home already.....oh wait, they don't have the grassy bases. My bad. You can probably still find the same figures, sans grassy bases...on eBay around the same price.

Hi Chris,

I don't like the reworked RnB014 as much as the original BAR001. The haven't included the severed heads w/ the new version + the new chieftain just looks too jolly.
Conversely, I think the RnB No Mercy set is an improvement over the first iteration, BAR012.
Neither of the Carnyx blowers appeal to me.

I like the idea of reworking some older sets, but the BAR figures are some of the best pieces K & C have created IMHO. Improving them might be a bit of a challenge.

Simply put, this is a great analysis/review of the K&C Vietnam line by one of the most knowledgeable collectors I have ever met.

Well said Jason. During Andy's visit down under he expressed his desire to look further at post WW2 conflicts so collectors should expect more surprises in the future and further expansion of such ranges as Vietnam.

On a personal level I think this is fantastic for the hobby and look forward to future releases.:salute::

A double helping of 'thanks' to both Jason & Toddy for your appreciation of our humble efforts in developing post WW2 ranges...

Back in the day K&C were among the very first to develop the Matt-painted toy soldier and ranges of WW2 subjects...Today we're moving into other Wars and Conflicts in the years afterwards...It's exciting and challenging...and different!

I'm looking forward to where it might lead and other 'targets of opportunity'...
Best wishes and happy collecting!
Andy.

Andy,
Going in the opposite direction of ideas , something that I think would go over quite well for both new and long time collectors, would be to "revisit" old releases. Sets and vehicles that some of us never got to purchase that were good sellers. So maybe instead of the old sets of 4 soldiers , you make 3 instead perhaps. It's a popular idea in many other markets from video games to sports jersey. "Throwback". I know some have been brought back before , but there are so many in your wonderful history that more "retro" sets would be welcome.

Cheers, Mike
