Jeff: Nice job on assembly and painting. I enjoy the work in progress. Do you use Humbrol glossy enamels or a different paint? John

John.

I use Humbrol gloss enamels for the traditional figures. They give a nice finish imo.

Thanks

Jeff

As promised, here are the finished horses.

The manes and tails are painted black straight from the tin, the lower legs are a darker brown and the blaze and socks are just white.

Harness chains and bits are silver to match the trace chains (when fitted at completion) buckles are painted gold. I like to paint the eyes, mouth and nostrils as this gives a nice feel to the models.

The bases are painted a green straight from the tin and really finish it off.

Here is the team together.

Impressive stuff Jeff, looking good. Thanks for posting the pics.

Different pics.

That completes the horse team, which took a while to paint as there is a lot of fidely bits to do but satisfying in the end.

Hi Simon.

Thanks. It's been a few years since I have done any painting and I have really enjoyed painting these.

Jeff

All that needs to be done now is to paint the riders.

Hi Jeff,

You are doing a superb job! I am very impressed with the artistic skill you are displaying and I have very much enjoyed watching you bring this set to life with your painting. Keep up the wonderful work!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Great paint job Jeff, I'm sure the riders will look as good as the horses. Another of the many talents with the brush. Mike:)

Back to my camera for this shot I'm afraid. Here we have the Team, Limber and Gun together for the first time since the castings were undercoated. The chain harness will be fitted for the final photo shoot once the Riders are completed.

If I can borrow a (the much better) camera tomorrow I will post a another photo.

Many thanks to all who have commented on my painting efforts, I'm glad members are enjoying this thread as much as I am.

Regards

Jeff

Jeff,

You have nothing to apologize for. It looks great. Maybe this will be the beginning of your getting back into painting.

Have just followed your thread, Jeff, like the work very much. One small point, the reins for the offhorse are looped under the horse's chin, not around the neck. Another common mistake I have seen is to connect the centre and lead pairs with a strap across the breast harness, this isn't so, the only connection between the near side and off side horses is the reins. Looking forward to the completed model.

Trooper, thanks for your comments and it's nice to see that someone is paying attention :D

I agree about the reins being looped under the horses chin, but these are supplied seperate and have a moulded pin on the ends which locate into a small hole on the horse harness it was very differcult to get them to conform to the correct route without breaking so I took the only alternative. Also from previous experience it will easier to pack safely for shipping as these are going across the pond to Brad (Forum Moderator).

There isn't any harness to connect from near to offside horse, only from front to back. I will add these to the finished model when I have painted the riders.

Again, thanks for the interest and welcome to the forum.

Regards

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Was commissioned to make King's Troop team and went to barracks to take photos. The adjutant was most helpful even to the stage of having a team hitched up for me on the square. Great day, took masses of photos, and was thoroughly frisked by the horses all looking for Polo mints. Every time I put my hand in my pocket for a new film a hairy muzzle was there first! Any help you need just ask.

LOL :D:D

I remember the days of the Musical Rides at the Royal Tournament! They really didn't have a lot of room for error considering the size of the arena.

Jeff

As promised a better photo.
