Hi ,

I have the Ball Nieuport as well. The Red "nose" appears to have put a lot of people off - I don't really see why.
It was Ball's personal fighting Mark. I't's a fine model and has the added details of a windscreen and an Aldis gunsight.

Roy.
Excellent. The red nose is sort of off-putting at first, but it is accurate and it is not hard to get used to. The JJD aircraft are really well detailed. The Bishop N-17 has the windscreen and Aldis sight, as well. Just outstanding attention to the small stuff that makes the aircraft a superior model. -- Al

THe SE5 and British pilots are in stock. Long awaited and eagerly anticipated! A tough choice for your next aircraft Al. I'm going to order this one and hold off on the Ball aircraft. Chris

Hi Chris. I'm in the same boat. I think I'm going to go the same route as you but I can't do anything for another month. I'm really beginning to fall behind on all these releases. At least there is no Limited Edition junk to worry about with these aircraft, allowing me to space them out a bit. I really like the looks of both the Ball and Mannock planes so I will be getting them both. Just a matter of when. -- Al

That really is the nice thing about JJD, the early releases are still available, so you don't have to rush in for a purchase. The SE5 will be my next addition as it's a new type aircraft to be released and I have a Nieuport (only one :rolleyes2:). Nice to know the choices will be there when you're ready. It's a great time to be collecting WWI aircraft. Chris

For any resident experts - was there any substantive difference between a "german" hangar and a "british" hangar. I'm just wondering why John distinguishes between them.

My SE5a, Mick Mannock figure, and head and shoulder British pilots to put in the cockpits arrived today, and I could not be more pleased.^&cool^&cool

As much reading and such as I have done about the air war, I have never read anything regarding the wooden structures. I do know that many of the German and Allied fighter squadrons operated very close to the front lines and were often housed in very rough conditions. The airplanes hangers were often tent structures. The tent hangers were standard issue for the German Jastas led by Richthofen so that they could pull up stakes and move to hot spots, as needed. -- Al

Congrats, Louis. The SE-5 is on my 'next buy' list. I really like the way the SE-5 has turned out and am quite anxious to get one. Did you get one of the JJD Albatros? It is really a fine model. Just as a matter of interest, the JJD German half-pilots will fit the tripes, D-7, and Albatros. -- Al

Yes, I got a JJD Albatros, its one of his best aircraft. The German 1/4 figure pilots fit in the cockpits of all the German planes, and the British 1/4 figure pilots fit in all of the allied planes. I set up Mannock chatting with Baron von Santa next to the SE5a.

Knowing Mannock's attitude towards flying Germans, Mannock probably shot Baron von Santa's sled to pieces and drove him down behind Allied lines. -- Al

There are two photos of similar German hangers in the Osprey Jagdstaffel 2 'Boelcke' book. Same type of doors, one with window in same position. There must be other photos of hangers in some of the other Osprey WW1 aircraft books.

An outstanding model, Chris. A real work of art. John really outdid himself on this one. All the details look right and there are a lot of details to get right. The color looks good and the underside looks real good as well with the upper color brought down under on the fuselage edges, as it should be. The pilot looks real sharp, too. All in all, a tremendous looking model. I am looking forward to getting one ASAP. Great get. ^&cool -- Al

Wow! This plane was already high on my must list, but the photos show what an stunner it is.

That is a beauty. I passed because I'm running out of space, but may have to reconsider at some point. Let's see what August brings.

In the forum 'for sale' section, forum member Corey121281 has outstanding deals on 4 JJD WW1 planes. Great chance to pick them up at a great price for anyone who might have waited or is on the fence. You won't be sorry. --Al

Chris, that looks too good to miss out on. What's the span measurement of the wings? If you've packed it back up don't worry!

Am I right in thinking JJD are 1/30 scale like K&C?

I know this question wasn't directed at me, but, yes, JJD is 1/30 scale. The measurement on the SE-5 wingspan is eleven (11) inches. Hope this helps. -- Al
