JJD makes fabulous WWI planes no doubt. I've been on the sidelines waiting to see which birds I'll pick up. I like the fact they don't retire out overnight. That gives a purchaser some time to consider his purchases. I'm not a WWI collector however I need a couple of these birds in my collection. I'm leaning towards the Red Baron Triplane and a Sopwith Camel. Until then I'm following this thread with great interest. ^&cool

I have 5 different JJD planes now. The Camel and triplane are both great choices!!

Good choices to start your collection with. The Red Baron's red triplane is easily the most famous fighter aircraft in the history of aerial warfare and the Camel is almost as famous because of it's accomplishments. The current JJD Camel choices are outstanding and I believe there is a William Barker version in the pipeline for eventual release. -- Al

For all us JJD WW1 aircraft collectors, I have come across a pretty good rumor in regards to ACE-07, the Lowenhardt Albatros. If this is an aircraft you want and haven't got it yet, it might be a good idea to move it up the priority list. It could become scarce.:wink2: -- Al

Just got the Ball Nieuport and pilot figure today (Ace 06, 06P), and I fully agree with Chalklands and Old Bill about the quality and appearence of this Nieuport version. It is outstanding. I love all three of the JJD N-17's but this one is the best yet. Very striking color scheme and the large red spinner is quite a neat detail and does not detract from the model at all. The Ball figure, based on a very famous photo, is equally well executed. As always, the weathering is very nicely done and gives the model that 'used' look that WW1 aircraft should have and need to look right. The overall detail is excellent and, as mentioned in a previous review, the Lewis gun and Aldis sight are superb. The research has been done and the results show. Ball's N-17 had only the unsynchronized, over the wing, Lewis gun for armament. No Vickers was present on Ball's N-17. Ball preferred the over wing Lewis, as it meshed with his tactics of attacking from underneath. Ball so liked the Lewis gun on the upper wing, that he was instrumental in the Lewis gun being part of SE-5 armament as oppossed to a pair of synchronized Vickers guns. Glad I finally got the Ball N-17 as I am very happy with it. Next I have to work on the SE-5.:wink2: -- Al

I was over the moon when John released the Albert Ball Nieuport - ( My all time favourite "Ace" ). Also loved the Albert Figure, a nice "Stand alone" sort of pose.
But.............. I would really have liked to have had an Albert that I could display with his plane. So I thought "why not" it should be quite simple...and had a go at converting Albert into a
cockpit friendly pose! Here are a few pics........
Cheers, Roy.

It is a great aircraft and figure. You did a really nice job with the conversion. It looks good sitting in the cockpit. Very nice bit of work, as you obviously know that Ball flew without a flying helmet and goggles, and thus, an accurate representation of Ball in his aircraft.{bravo}} -- Al

Nice job on the conversion. I just can't get past the "Rudolph" nose spinner on the aircraft. Chris

I have gotten some reliable information that JJD is working on the SPAD, in a few different versions, for 2013. Do not know what versions but assume that Rickenbacker will be one. I would hope that Luke and Guynemer would be probable, also. This aircraft type has an unusually large selection to choose from as it was flown by the French, British, Americans, Italians, and even the Russians if JJD picks the earlier Type 7 over the later Type 13, which I would doubt. -- Al

That's great news on the Spad Al! I'm pretty sure a Rickenbacker is in the near future.

Any ideas on when we'll see Udet's Fokker?

As to the Udet D-7, I haven't been in communication with John in a long while. The last time we talked, it sounded like the lozenge camo problem was unsolvable in a economically viable way. I would not be surprised if the project has been back-burnered. But he also said there was a chance it might be done in a limited edition because of the expense to have the lozenges hand painted. I'm guessing that anything involving painting those lozenges by hand is going to be high in price, so it may never be done. The costs involved just might be too high (as with the Stuka) for JJD to pull the trigger on this one. That being said, if JJD can solve the lozenge decal vs. material shrinkage question, there will be many D-7's in the future, as lozenge camo was endemic to virtually all D-7's, with the rare exception of one or two (like Goering's) that may have been painted a solid color. Good news Al as the Spad is iconic for the Allies. Rickenbacker will be a sure bet, would like to see a Luke version as others have mentioned. Chris

Received my long anticipated GGC-07 - German Mechanic and Airfield Accessories a couple of days ago.
What a cracking set!

Just some idle musings about different Spad 13 version that JJD might consider. It seems that Rickenbacker's and Luke's planes would be no-brainers. Sure to sell them. I would like to see several others as well. From the French, Guynemer, Fonck, de Turenne, and Madon would be great choices. The Guynemer and de Turenne versions would be in the French solid color yellow/tan shade, while the Fonck would be in the standard French 5 color camo, with his blue nose. Madon's would be a flashy choice as his fuselage was painted all red, with the wings in the 5 color camo. This would be a striking color scheme. Biddles or Putman's Spads would be good choices for further USAS planes. I would really like to see the Italian ace Francesco Baracca's aircraft done. It was finished in the 5 color camo, but with Italian roundels and Baracca's unique personal markings of a prancing stallion on the port side of the fuselage, and a griffon on the starboard side. This would be a neat choice. Anyone else got any personal favorites or ideas? Just so John doesn't run out of ideas, of course.:rolleyes2::tongue:^&grin -- Al

Today I received the latest "German Mechanics" set as well, and as Old Bill I am most pleased with it.
Here it is. Him and a fellow mechanic are just about done with their maintenance and having the Fokker ready for the "Red Baron".

The sets look great, Konrad. I'm sadly way behind on the mechanics sets. I really need to get them to bring my aircraft to life, like yours.:smile2: -- Al

Here's a promotional photo that TF is shown with the GGC-08 set in their webstore.
The center figure seems to be another new pose, not being released yet.
Nice figure I think :smile2:
