Knights of the Sky (2 Viewers)

Love these sets and the early aircraft. They make great dioramas as you have shown. Chris

While we're waiting for pics of Jenkins' new "prototypes," thought I'd press GGC-06 into service. Below, the set is standing in for the as yet to be released figure of young Steinhauser, pilot of ACE-21(S):

GGC-06 is sold out, Steinhauser is no where to be found, and the Eifel tower doesn't show in the picture. We do what we have to do.:p

GGC-06 is a great set . . . . . I feel fortuneate to have one myself. A lot of the Knights of the Sky sets are starting to be very, very scarce and hard to find . . . . .

Hard to find but doable. I've been able to find all the sets I want, with some assistance from others :wink2:

Hi Mike,

I've always used the tables below to check on the availability of KotS sets:

http://www.johnjenkinsdesigns.com/knights.htm

However, the reappearance of "Baron von Santa" has me questioning my understanding of what's actually retired. As you can see from the table, BvS is cited as SOLD OUT. This development suggests that the entire range is still open to additional production. When I've broached the subject of production numbers with JJ in the past, he's declined to comment on the matter.:)

Thought I'd punctuate the thread with the pic of Jenkins' new Steinhauser figures:

How's that for timely?:wink2:

How about 3 versions of the Eindecker? Who are we going to get? Boelcke? Immelmann? Wintgens? Buddecke? So many possibilities. Some interesting markings, although they are more subtle and less varied at this point of the war. Very anxious to see these aircraft. John fooled me with this aircraft release. -- Al

Hi Al,

Gotta have these two fellas:

In addition to the other two that you cited, Al, Parschau and Hohndorf would be possibilities.

I believe that one of the distinguishing characteristics of the new E.III will be better cockpit detail. In the past, Jenkins' approach to cockpit detail has been, shall we say, somewhat austere. Look for the interior to be MUCH improved on this one.

Probably not new news, but looking at the JJD website, most of the pilot figures are now shown as "Sold Out".....except ACE-10P (Brown) and ACE-16P (Rickenbacker). Also some of the German groundcrew and BGC-08 (Sergeant RFC) are shown Sold Out.

That's not to say they're necessarily sold out at dealer's.

Haven't seen many pics of the GCC Flugzeughangar. I numbered mine drei:

Hangar3_Above.jpg

Interesting to note that it's slightly wider and taller than the BCC hangar. However, the latter piece feels considerably heavier. No idea as to why.

Great display. Still have to get a hanger. The JJD D-7 hasn't had as much attention as some of John's other aircraft, but it is really well done. The paint is not as pure white as it may appear as it is very well weathered which dulls down the white. Mine has a particular place of pride in my collection as I was able to get John to sign the bottom of the fuselage when I met him a few years back. -- Al

Thanks Al...

To elaborate on Al's point about the graded application of mud/grime to the model, let me post another pic:

Hangar3_4.jpg

In the way of commentary, let me assure our readers that the darkened underside of the Fokker replica involves more than just a shadow. The staining is more or less uniform on the undersides, and then gradually erodes as it makes it way up the fuselage. Note the area behind the model's cockpit for the effect that I'm suggesting. What's really kind of wild about Jenkins' approach to this process is the consistency with which its able to pull the application off. I have no idea as to what's being done from a manufacturing standpoint that would allow for this kind of continuity of "weathering." Still, it's nice to have one on hand for bragging rights.

Interestingly I have my D7 set up in a very similar shelf display . . . . . As they say "Like minds . . . . . .

Hi Mike,

So, that's what became of hangar #2! :wink2:

Nice display there. As always, I'm truly envious of the wide-open-spaces in your TS-cave.

My band of intrepid airmen is pretty much shoulder to shoulder:{eek3}

So it goes.:redface2:

Hi Moe.
Where did you get the backdrop from?
