Knights of the Sky (3 Viewers)

Or the one that started it all. I remember seeing this in Teds room at the Chicago show and being wowed.
Figured I would get it as a stand alone piece:rolleyes2:
Yet that worked out.View attachment 232236
Great choice. Gotta have the Red Baron. He's been SO for quite a while and I'd bet there is a market to be filled if John were to re-issue him and his tripe. WW1 aviation IS Richthofen and his red Fokker Triplane. -- Al

Whats amazing to me is to see the evolution of John's work from the Red baron Dr1 to the DH-2 or D-7.
The shading, weathering, supports, the overall quality has jumped so much it's unreal.
I had one the saggy wing D111s from the first run and the replacement is a better model by far.
And as far as a wish list.
German bomber, either a Gotha or Rumpler any version. I missed out on the Tg Gotha

Moe,

Thanks for the ‘re-post’.

I’m somewhat behind in picture taking for Knights if the Skies. Having picked up pilots and new ground crew this week, I’ll have to take some more.

Really am excited about the new Roland two-seater. Have always liked this particular aircraft. Think the model is a very nice color scheme and I am really interested to see what kind of interior (cockpit) details will be included as it looks like there is detail visible through the side fuselage windows. Would also love to see a pilot and observer/gunner figure done for this plane. A very neat choice for John to enter the two-seater market with. -- Al

Any images of the up coming Roland two seater?
I have not found any searching the internet...

There are images under the John Jenkins Great War June releases section right here on the forum and also images under the John Jenkins section in the Treefrog Store section. For Treefrog pics, just go to the manufacturers in the store, select John Jenkins, and then select the Great War. -- Al

Found a video clip on YT of some Nieuports and other types:

Pretty neat films, especially as they are 100+ years old. I spotted Nieuport 10, 11, and 12 types and what I think is a Caudron G3. Thanks for posting it. -- Al

Clip devoted to the Lafayette Escadrille:

I was a little surprised that so much film was shot of the squadron.

More great stuff. Some of this footage with the Farman's taking off must be taken from the same film strip with the Nieuports taking off in your previous post as the airfield is the same, as is the camera position. The Farman must be the aircraft I misidentified as a Caudron in the previous post (the twin tail fooled me). Loved seeing Nungessor, Thaw, Thenault, deLaage (incorrectly deSaage in the film), Rockwell, Prince, Chapman, and McConnell as moving images. The shots of the Nieuport 11's being moved out of the hanger onto a takeoff line are early as the Nieuports are marked with letters, identifying them to individual pilots, such as 'H' for Hall, 'R' for Rockwell, and 'Mac' for McConnell. Again, great stuff and thanks for posting it. -- Al

So as not to play favorites, Albatros D.II:

Very nice, clear shots of the D-II's. Can see the camo patterns and different markings. I liked the shots of the observation balloons. Also liked the pilot at the end who kind of just hops out of the cockpit to the ground and casually walks off. -- Al

Glad that you enjoyed those, Al. We really need to get JJ to do the Nieuport 11.

Here is some Army Air Service video:

Some really neat films, Moe. Lots I've seen before, but plenty I haven't. The personalities are everywhere in these films, Rickenbacker, of course, but so many others like Lufbery, Chambers, Campbell, Winslow, Meissner. Just great stuff. Some really good shots of the Spads and N-28's. as well. I quite agree that John needs to do the Nieuport 11. It is too important an aircraft to miss and it was so widely used that it offers almost endless color and marking schemes. I would also love to see the beautiful Nieuport 28 done. It was only used by the USAS, and relatively briefly, but it had a wide variation in colors and markings and thus offers many possibilities. I know that there are many different aircraft that could be done and that everyone has his own favorite, but the two Nieuports, the 11 and 28, are iconic and should be represented. -- Al

I’ve been rather bad recently with taking pictures and posting them here. Have a plan to get up to date in the next week or two.

Here are the purchases from June;
