kogu's "John Firth" collection (3 Viewers)

And here's some info on the figures in the "Officer's Mess" scene.

"All the furniture including the picture frames and swords, are from the old Phoenix Models molds and purchased from John Eden Studios. The fireplace is also from John Eden."

"The animals heads are conversions from Britains zoo animals, heads removed and mounted on medieval knight shields, the crossed lances are scratch built.

The mess cat, a tabby, sat on his favorite chair known in the mess as "General Gordon" and is considered to be the best mouser this side of Bengal ,from Phoenix molds by John Eden.

The flooring is balsa wood, stained and varnished.

The officer in the green mess dress belongs to the 33rd Light Cavalry.
The kit is from Yeomanry Miniatures, sculpted by Alan Caton.

The officer in the scarlet jacket is of the 7th Hariana Lancers.
A Chota Sahib kit, aquired through John Eden.

The officer in the french grey jacket with glass in hand, belongs to the 27th Light Cavalry.
A Chota Sahib kit, aquired through John Eden.

The officer in the yellow jacket is from the 1st Duke of York's Own Lancers, the famous "Skinner's Horse".
A Chota Sahib kit, aquired through John Eden.

The seated Colonel in french grey is of the 27th Light Cavalry.
A kit from Yeomanry Miniatures, sculpted by Alan Caton.

The Indian servant in french grey is attached to the 27th Light Cavalry.
A kit from Sarum Soldiers, sculpted by Alan Caton.

And last but not least we have this officer in a rather casual pose, currently my avatar.
The dark blue uniform with the red facings identifies him an officer of the 11th King Edward's Own Lancers "Probyn's Horse".
Another kit from Yeomanry Miniatures, sculpted by Alan Caton."

Cheers!

The man and woman on the bench with the dog are spectacular! Might have to line John up to make me a set for my next project!!!! :)

It's way into November now and the cold times are coming in, so here's one more set from my "John Firth" collection, appropriate for this season.
This set I received in December 2010, just around Christmas time.
"2 Yeomanry Officers under streetlight, winter scene"

Happy Collecting!

Gentlemen,

No new pictures tonight, but I would like to use this thread to announce that I no longer will be collecting Toy Soldiers.
Through the last 15 years many different Toy Soldiers came into my house and then were sold again, some even came back a second time, but then were sold again.

The only really steady and continuous effort in my Toy Soldier collecting was my "John Firth" collection. It accummulated through the past 6 years exactly, since I received my first piece from John in November 2008.
For a number of reasons, I now decided to get out of the hobby. While it was fairly easy to sell the majority of my troops, I really did not want to split up the "John Firth" collection. I wanted to keep them all together and was hoping to find someone who would be interested enough and willing to buy the whole lot.

I found this person in fellow forum member "zblang".
Earlier today, around noon, I delivered the collection to his house, and I am writing this now after checking in to a hotel on my way back to Kentucky.
Zach has currently a commission in the works with John, so he really was a perfect candidate.

Thank you very much, Zach, for agreeing to a deal with me, and I hope you do enjoy this collection as much as I did, and possibly expand it.

Maybe a new thread will come up at some point, that is called "zblang's John Firth Collection" :smile2:
I sure hope so.

Happy Collecting to all!

Cheers!

Wow, Konrad . . . . what can I say. I am speechless. You will be missed on the forum and within the hobby. It was always a pleasure for me to converse with you and I am very glad that we were able to spend time together at past Chicago OTSN shows. All the very best to you sir . . . .
:smile2: Mike

I'm sorry you're leaving the hobby Konrad. Don't know what to really say except that you will be missed.

All the best to you and your family.

Brad

Had a feeling this was coming Konrad.Be talking to you soon.
Mark

Konrad, I am very sorry to hear this because the hobby is losing a real gentleman whom I have had first-hand dealings with and who treated me with extreme generosity. I wish you well and want to express my heartfelt thanks for your kindness to me. -- Al

Sad news indeed. Konrad I hope that although you will no longer be collecting you will still stay in contact with your many friends on the forum. My best wishes to you and your little co driver on the race track. Trooper

I was very delighted to meet Konrad today. I only wish that I got to meet him sooner and under different circumstances. I know it was hard for you to decide to sell all of these. I promise that they are going to remain together and there will be at least two additions to the collection coming in the near future and more to follow those.

Like i told you today, my door is open and come visit anytime!

What a surprise that you are leaving the hobby. I will miss our chats and hope our friendship continues. Chicago or Indy will not be the same without your knowledge and evening talks. I know Pat and I will miss that. Best wishes. John:(

Hi Konrad,

John says it best. I wholeheartedly agree with him. You will be sorely missed in many, many ways.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Konrad,

I am sorry to hear that you are dropping out. You will be sorely missed. I'll always remember our common interests with our collections and all the emails that you, Randy and I exchanged early on when we all first got into the hobby. Great times indeed!

Please stay in touch and I wish you all the best.

Mark

Dear Konrad:
OMG! I am stunned
This is like learning that there is no Santa Claus.
It is a pity that the John Firth items had to go too but it sounds like they have a good home with Zach.
You certainly made John and his work a significant part of the forum.
Your excitement with each new addition was palpable.
Glossy figures of the British Empire and you are synonymous.
I hope you will keep in touch and we all wish you well.
This is indeed a sad day for the hobby.
Randy

I have already expressed my feelings to Konrad in a pm but Randy I agree entirely with what you have said, it is a sad day

Regards John Firth

I will keep in touch and hang around :smile2:

Konrad,
Just came across this as I was admiring your now previous Firth collection. Your photos were one of the reasons I contacted and contracted with JohN! So, I am late in saying sorry I will miss you. Happy Holidays and Keep in touch!
Tom

I decided to add my new pieces from John to this thread to keep them all in one place and also since I like to think of "Kogu" as an honorary owner of these as well. AS you know, I bought Konrad's collection of John's pieces and decided that I wanted to add to it.

The following piece is

"The Final Chukka"
The Final Chukka *portrays the final part of an inter cavalry ( Hussars) polo match final, the 4 hussars are dressed in dark blue patrol jackets with black astrakhan trim.
The regiments shown are the 7th, 11th, 13th, and 15th Hussars. All the figures are marked on the bases as to which regiment they are.
The trophies and polo mallets are scratch built. The *ballustrading is Historex and the steps are built from milliput and dolls
house paving slabs. The figures are unknown and originally had Indian turban heads but from research found no such regiments existed.
The heads are spares from Yeomanry miniatures. The dog having a scratch is from ATS.*
(that is from John himself). And now, some photos....

This one is called "The Old Pals". Details supplied by John.

"The Old Pals"
The old pals WW1 1914-1916 is a Royal Field Artillery unit, the markings on their shoulders show they are from
the 19th division fighting on the western front. In a short break they pause a while for a photo with a cup of char and a
woodbine cigarette while one of the group takes a photograph. The figures are from John Eden studios, the ground
work is scratch built and the dog from ATS.
