Larry B's Collection (1 Viewer)

These are my Islemen. Essentially, Angus Og Macdonald and his men as they meet Robert Bruce, King of Scotland on the run from Longshanks.

Another line I started but never finished. They painted Robert's hair to red. I will darken it to match Nigel Tranter's description more.

Also, still missing an Angus Og figure.

FL Norse

The theme here is a shieldwall that is getting flanked and nobles and other reserves needing to go to secondary weapons.

Hey Larry, you sure have a great collection, thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more.

Nice collection! I’ve also enjoyed Nigel Trantor’s wonderful historical fiction novels about Scottish history. I have about a dozen and he wrote many more in his 90 year lifespan. It’s a great way to learn history!

Thanks gents, with my second daughter the changes and growth in the collection will be a lot smaller in the near future!

Who makes these figures? They're fantastic.

Well, we (and by that I mean my wife) decided that we needed professional organizers to come help us with the pandemic bunker known as our house. Fortunately, we know (and my wife and her sister are friends of the team we use) so we were able to put appropriate measures in place to keep everyone safe. When my wife broached the idea having them help me organize my hobby area I was, of course, very open minded about this idea (er, no I really wasn't.) Slowly they won me over, and one of them eventually convinced me by getting very excited and chattering away about how much her sons would love it and love history. Slowly, they pried boxes, dinner tray dioramas and other parts of my hobby / diorama materials collection from my fingers and completely reorganized the area... and they did an awesome job. I have a lot more room and I am very happy. While my wife has spent almost as much on organizers in the last few months as I have on toy soldiers, ahem, I must admit they do some amazing stuff. Even creating little self serve areas for my girls to help themselves to cups, plates and snacks is pretty brilliant, but I digress. Here is the result:

You are a brave man to let them loose on your collection, but the end result does justify your decision. No doubt you must be happier moving around in a well ordered space. The downside your partner knows how much you have and maybe not overly pleased, especially when future purchases once again alter the look{sm4}, Robin.

Hahaha, that’s definitely true! I do think it helped hearing the other women talk about how cool they thought the collection looked, though. So, win some and lose some. 😁

Your area is wonderfully organized, wow! It looks like a clean room! Everything is so tidy, labeled and situated just right. I hope to have a set up like yours some day- an area all mine for diorama building and figure painting + collection display zones. We moved just before the Covid onset, and most of my collection is still in big moving boxes. I haven't unboxed everything because, with everything being so fluid right now, we are considering another possible move in the foreseeable future. Thanks for the photos- Joe

It is very well organized. I think some of the dioramas could benefit from a dust cover. You have an amazing First Legion collection ....

The doctor is in!

Another Harry Anderson (HarrytheHeid) recommendation in helping with the "care and feeding" of my collection was this lab stand:

I had been trying to fix this Saracen for a while, but no luck. First try with the stand:

Also, fixed these two Prussians which were a lot easier as it was just replacing the queue on the drummer (although it is not quite as flat as it should be) and one break of the pike:

Makes repairing figures so much easier!

I was very fortunate last year as several of the financial benefits from the startup I joined in 2017 materialized. While being part of a big multi-national corporation was not pleasant, and I am very glad I am back at a startup, it did allow me to add a lot of "color" to my collection last year in combination with the FL sale. I thought I would share some of it:

I added to my ancient Greek collection with what looks like a command group overlooking the battle of Plataea

Ooops, I forgot about the Saracen Standard Bearer and a JJD Gaul / Germanic warrior that I am very impressed by.

I also picked up a few retired Westphalian troops and some of the Pavlovsky Grenadiers to create my 3rd Napoleonic themed diorama. I want to create something of the battle below the Bagration Fleches from Borodino. The Pavlovsky Grenadiers probably did not take part in this battle, but I like the way they look so I got them anyway. The Westphalian Chasseurs and Jaegers performed very well in this small part of the battle:

Also, in the previous post I picked up a few of the Highlanders I was missing.

But, of course, I did not completely ignore WW2:

I really love the Jeep and the hard bitten Sarge figure:
