Less well known war movies (1 Viewer)

Yes, saw it when it first came out and I'd just left the Reserves.

It follows the experiences of Australian soldiers during the Vietnam War. The movie traces the tour of duty of an Australian Special Air Service Regiment reconnaissance team from their departure to their return home to Australia. It avoids much of the political comment on Australia’s involvement in Vietnam, unlike Hollywood films which tend to explore the rights and wrongs of the Vietnamese conflict.

The film focuses on the soldiers in their cantonments away from the battlefield, where they spend the bulk of their time playing cards, smoking, drinking beer, nursing their tinea, making jokes and messing about with American forces. :) :)

The film also contains some small scale battle scenes. When the men return to Australia, they reflect on how both they and the general Australian society have changed.

I have a copy and will watch it.

Thanks

Here's a less well-known war movie, "The One That Got Away", starring Hardy Krüger:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050803/reference

The story of Luftwaffe fighter pilot Franz von Werra, the only German prisoner of war to escape British captivity during the war. An interesting little film.

Prost!

Here is another less well known WWII war movie.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_(2018_film)

In a nutshell, this is about a group of Polish pilots who overcame many obstacles to distinguish themselves fighting the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain.

aka "Hurricane: 303 Squadron" in Poland and "Mission of Honor" in the USA.

I think is worth watching despite some negative reviews.

"A Hill in Korea", saw this some years back. May give it another look.
Some of our readers may not know that Michael Caine, under his given name Maurice Joseph Mickelwhite, fought in Korea while doing his National Service. He was in The Royal Fusiliers. Wonder how he felt playing a movie role, knowing he'd been there for real?
Blackbob.

And this one is about a Czech RAF sqdn in WWII: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Blue_World Thought it okay, not great.

Tae Guk Gi is a stunning war movie. I highly recommend tracking it down if you haven't seen it. I need to watch it again myself. I just remember being floored by it.

By Dawn's Early Light continues to be a favorite of mine. A fictional movie, but I doubt there is any other movie where the actions of a few brave men have made such a difference to the world.

SHANGANI PATROL 1970

The brilliant trumpet playing on the soundtrack is by Eddie Calvert, "the man with the golden horn". He had several big Top 10 hits in the UK Pop charts in the 1950's

The main film starts after about 2 minutes
