Let It Snow 2017 (1 Viewer)

Wow. You have plenty of room for the Japanese Imperial Fleet and the Revolutionary War.{sm4}

I endorse this line of thinking; I've been pushing Larry to turn his house into a 14 room toy soldier museum, all you need is a kitchen ,a bathroom and a bedroom, the rest are fair game.............:wink2:

There is ONLY ONE item holding me back from that glorious goal ... and it is spelled .... W - I - F - E. {sm2}
I like good eatin' but my cooking skills are limited to scrambles eggs and PB&J sandwiches ...:redface2:

Anyway .. I do have four man-cave rooms so that is enough ..... for the moment. :rolleyes: I can take a few photos as soon as I pick up from summer construction jobs, if anyone is interested.

Didn't we have thread about that someplace here on the forum.?

B.T.W. ... currently heavy snow falling---- 6" predicted --- then turning to ICE {eek3} on Monday. Actually it is good weather to play with toys.

I love historical homes (mine was built in 1843), and would love to see photos of yours.

Merry Christmas Louis .... will do!

It was started by Joshua Head (of the current HEAD Family sporting equipment today) back in 1798. He was a Businessman / Sea Merchant who traded all up and down the New England coast and over to England. Joshua had a fleet of 5 or 6 ships. Waldoboro was a large ship building community so he built his fleet here as well as his home.

Interesting story ... the house is constructed like a ship. Each of my 10" X 15" beams .. {eek3} .. are numbered at the joints where fit into other framing members. The house was built over a period of 5 or so years out of limber that didn't make it into a ship. There are no traditional stud walls here.

My walls are all solid wood. That make is REAL easy to hang pictures and such since EVERY nail hits 5" or 6" of solid wood. However running plumbing and electrical wire is MOST difficult ...:mad:

At one point the Head family OWNED Waldoboro, controlling 500 - 600 acres of land and 3000 feet of shore front. Many of the ship masts came from his property. Sadly, the family sold it off over the years. I currently own only 37 acres of what was a rather vast estate.

Also, my neighbors live in homes that were once part of the estate. They were the housing for the maids, butlers, coachmen, stable and farm help. Also on the property is a 4 story barn that is built similar to the house. This was a working farm at some point but not 100% sure of the exact dates.

During construction (inside and out) I have found countless numbers of artifacts that are now in the Waldoboro Historical Society.

Another funny story happened about 15 years ago. I measured the outside of one of wings of the original structure and it was 4 feet longer than the inside measurement. It drove me crazy for weeks. Finally, after taking down some inside walls I discovered why. There was a 3 1/2 foot space that was used as a safety room for runaway slaves on their way North to Canada. There were still some evidence from the spaces use, with dates and names on the wall, buttons and other interesting items.

AND ... my JJD War of 1812 .... and hopefully ... a continuation of the Boyington Black Sheep USMC range ...:rolleyes:

Space is not a issue. Lately TIME has been the monkey on the back. But summer is over (IN A BIG WAY) so back to FUN.
Currently 4" inches and snowing to beat the band

We joke and kid around about the weather, but I was just sent a horrific video of a massive accident on I-95 in Baltimore; there was a 20 plus car pile up on one side of I-95 and someone was standing outside their vehicle filming it with their IPhone when in the background you see a tanker truck filled with gasoline go flying by on the other side of the highway, skid, slam into the jersey barrier, flip over and burst into flames, causing a 30 car pile up on the other side of I-95.

Just unbelievable.

I've said it a million times, but the stretch of highway from the Delaware River Bridge to "the loop" in Maryland known as the 495 mixing bowl is by far THE WORST stretch of road I travel to and from shows.

On more than one occasion the entire highway, ie, all four lanes were blocked, just a terrible, terrible traffic scenario.

No, it's spelled D-I-V-O-R-C-E.................scrambled eggs and PB&J sandwiches.................remind me to never stop by for a meal if your wife is out of town then.................and her home make cookies are outstanding too by the way........................:wink2:

It never ceases to amaze me that many people don't slow down in bad weather conditions or better yet stay home. I see people ripping down the road in excess of the speed limit no matter the conditions. No way would I venture out on 95 in bad weather. Even on a good day it is like something out of Mad Max.

I hate, hate, hate driving in the snow.

I hate it.

I avoid it at all costs, but if have to, I sit in the middle lane and let the loons blow by me at 90MPH in the left lane. The only problem is I'll get stuck behind some clambrain going 20MPH in the middle lane, so I'll have to get over to pass him and you take your life in your hands when you try that trick.

Luckily I'm self employed, so if it's snowing, I stay home. The only X factor is shows from December through March; now that I'm no longer doing the show down in Korea in December, the Michigan show in January and the show down in Korea again in February, the only concern is Cold Wars in Lancaster that is held in March.

I just hope the weather is not bad for that one; it has been several times the past few years......................

Absolutely amazing Larry! My house was poet, newspaper magnate and abolishionist William Cullen Bryant's guest house. It's on the National Register of Historic Places as the Charles and Vincent Smith house, the names of the brothers from whom he bought about half of what is now the Village of Roslyn Harbor. His main house, Cedermere, is a museum diagonally across the street from my house, and his daughters' two mansions are across the street and up the hill behind my house. My three room man cave is the third floor, originally servants quarters. I look forward to seeing some photos of your amazing home!

Every year it's the same on news broadcast when the weather turns extremely cold and there is snow. Like this past week, "It's not even winter yet"' referring to I believe Dec. 22 is the start of winter. In my mind this weather would only be front page news if it happened in July. It is December folks, it gets snowy and cold, LIFE!

I think it has something to do with old men and an enlarged prostrate. The larger it becomes it triggers endless
normal Winter weather dialog. Then to insure testosterone levels are high supplement with snow plow tales.

For the rest of us...............

That may be fine for St. Louis, but in Toronto it gets cold enough to turn cars into snow monsters. {eek3} The SUVs are even worse.{sm3}

Maybe tonight in the Seattle area. It has been too cold the past week or so for snow (down to 15F where I am, close to the Cascade mountains)...
