So I'm starting to wonder, what is the point of overpaying for Trophy Miniatures on eBay when I can purchase Little Legion figures for half the price or better?

Trophy foot seem to range from $15 (if you are lucky) or $20 to as much as $50 for a single figure compared to a USD price of around $16-17 each.

Now if I have an opportunity to buy a Trophy rarity that hardly ever comes on the market, that is a different matter, but for building up mass and the collection, LL seems like a better deal.

I'm just sayin'

Having recently read through the 54mm Sudan posts on your (rather excellent) blog, I have to say I had wondered the exact same thing! I personally prefer Little Legion to Trophy in any case, as the sculpting seems more anatomically correct to me (Trophy figures are nice, but the faces sometimes put one in mind of Toby jugs!)

If I have the choice between a Trophy set and a LL one, I will still choose Trophy. They seem better made to me and I just like the look of Trophy.

2 for LL,1 for Trophy and 1 tie.Let the race begin.^&grin

LL please, but I do enjoy seeing Martyn's Trophy collection. Chris

I like Trophy, but have bought Little Legion over time for some specific figures. Remember, Mike of LL used to paint for Len at Trophy, so the figures are really nearly identical in a lot of respects and Mike furthered the "trophy" idea in his own vision. End of day, I like the originals better as Trophy figures have a charm to me that cannot be duplicated. Additionally, some of the sets will never be remade today due to cost, etc. When you think about the depth of the Trophy Line, it is incredible what it covered and all of the different sets.

I agree with Tom....Trophy figures have a charm and feel that brought me back to collecting in the early eighties after a 10 year hiatus. A great improvement in sculpting over my original Britains hollow casts and such a great diversity of subjects.
I have over 2000 Trophy figures and vehicles and as I slowly sell them off I feel like I'm losing my friends.
I also have a decent collection of Little Legion and they go well with Trophy and are also nicely sculpted.
Len was a great guy and very accommodating having made multiple specials for me.

i too have over 2000 trophy figures with half of them being in the napoleonic range. I have a few maybe 100 ll i use as accent pieces. I like the figures and would do more but there is just too much silver on the top of the guns and they dont look right in large groupngs because the silver takes away from the scene. I guess a might have more like 200 little legions when i think about it. I have alot of artillery sets and mtd sets that dont have all the silver

Silver-topped rifles aren't that unusual in the toy soldier world - Britain's 'Victoria Cross' and 'Redcoats' ranges being good examples. Can't say it ever bothered me; traditional toy soldiers are supposed to be shiny, right?

I love both :salute::

I have quite a few Trophy sets along with quite a few LL.

Mike at LL is a great guy to deal with and has produced many "Specials" for me over the last few years

Cheers

Martyn:)

Yes, he is converting (with paint) some AZW heliograph team figures into Camel Corps for me.

I received some LL Zulu figures the other day and find that they fit in nicely with my Trophy Zulus.

Jim, There is no point if you are happy with LL. They are toy soldiers, after all. The whole point of the hobby is too have fun and get enjoyment from your figures. If Trophy is just a brand name and the quality is the same as LL, why pay the extra money? Seems pretty clear to me.
