LWG001-002 German Winter KT Panzer ABT 509 and TC011 Waffen SS Tank Crew (2 Viewers)

Artistic license versus historical accuracy in military miniatures would make a very interesting and lively conversation. I opt for historical accuracy. Should I desire artistic effects I would buy a 1/35 kit and do it myself!

What 1/35 scale armour got to do with this hobby?

I think you should consider moving to 1/35, and then you can go enlighten members of the 1/35 modelling community about everything under the sun. I'm sure they'd enjoy that. You have a creepy "fascination" with FL and I find it puzzling why you even post in FL threads when you clearly stated you would not even accept a FL KT as a gift. You just come off as someone who enjoys stirring the pot.

Katana is entitled to his opinion and as has been said by another member the base colour is wrong. (I have no expertise in the is area so cannot comment). So lets leave it at that shall we.

Adding him to my ignore list has boosted my enjoyment 100%. One of the best hobby-related decisions I have made.

Since I'm the one who posted about the base color on the main body of the tank, To my eye in the photos it looks grey. Matt of FL replyed that is their way of showing shading on a winterized armored vehicle. The collectors who have tank seem very happy with it. - Enough said.

FL can have a artistic license but K&C can't lol, won't start !!
Is a nice looking model tho.

Not artistic license, but stylistic choice.

How does thick white camouflage age on sharp edges? FL says it becomes grey. Justifiable, but nobody can be certain I would think. It is therefore a stylistic choice.

The FL Tigers have a thin coat and the original dark yellow color shines through. The JJD Jagdpanther and the FL King Tiger have a thick white coat.

So at least in principle different treatment of used areas on the tank is justified in my opinion.

I have more than 50 modelling tank magazines and have never seen a picture where white camouflage degrades to dark grey shadow, usually it tends to disappear and show the base color/camouflage.

I like what FL has done with this Winter King Tiger.....They have avoided the pastel colors and done a very good job on this winter weathering....IMO this is one of their best efforts .

Kingtigers in late 1944 had camouflage factory applied. Whitewash applied over the camouflage paint would wear off and expose the underlying camouflage colors. Several toy soldier manufacturers have accurately shown this effect on their winter Battle of the Bulge models; where the camouflage colors show through the whitewash.

Dang it, I may have to get one of these afterall-you guys are a bad influence-lol

Getting one of these is not something you will regret. I just unboxed mine and my jaw dropped. The pictures here and other places just do not do it justice.

It truly is beautiful.

The base color is not grey, and in fact on mine, you can barely make out some dunkelgelb and rotbraun underneath the white paint. This is not a whitewash, but a well painted white camouflage which has gotten dirty.

I personally would have gone a little lighter on the rust streaks and the darkness of the dirt on rough metal areas like the weld seams, but the truth is it is a beautiful model and paint job. When I just take it in, it is one of the finest models in my whole collection.

It is not a fantasy paint job, but artistic license was taken on how dirty it would get and the type of dirt (grease and grime and soot rather than mud and dirt)

Mine has definitely driven through some areas with seriously burning diesel engines (looking at you T-34s) and other burning stuff.

I think I mentioned considering toning the darkness down, but I will not unless I win the lottery and get a second.

Those color subtleties don’t seem show well on the photos, so thanks for that description. Looks like a great tank.
