Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (1 Viewer)

I forgot to mention that the "XXIII" in the first photo on post 274 is actually painted on a blue painted background. It is not a paper label. How neat is that?

This is an interesting set from Brigader Miniatures that came in a nice wooden box of the 23rd Regiment of Foot (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) from the American Revolutionary War. The figures may be 48mm and are semi-round.

Not in their current catalogue though Christopher - which is a great shame - as they look a marvelous range to have a go at painting. Do you know if they still have that mould - and better still - could they cast a few more sets of these RWF soldiers? johnnybach

Hi Christopher,

Thanks for the information. Do you know what relationship there is, if any, between Brigade Miniatures and Nurnberger Meisterzinn?

Although I have more than 250 Hiriart sets in my collection, I won't post them here. However, I thought I would post photos of my special order double sets representing various Imperial German Cavalry regiments. I originally had just the standard five man (officer, bugler, and three men) catalog versions of all these sets. The first is set 1138 Imperial German Garde Husaren.

That is a very nice set of hussars. Very colorful and very nicely detailed. Kind of like a color rainbow with the red, blue, gold, yellow, and gray. -- Al

I agree Al, it is a very colorful set of hussars and it is one of my favorites.

This is my special double set 1148 Imperial German Totenkopf Husaren. Their black uniforms and horses with red and white details are striking.

Gorgeous sets, Mike. The Totenkopf black uniforms and the white uniforms of the Cuirassiers are very impressive in their basic, simple color schemes. The red trim, in both cases, really makes them stand out. Those Germans can design some very eye-catching uniforms. I also like those silver helmets with the gold trim and eagle (?) on them. Another example of intimidating German uniform design. These German cavalry uniforms look just as good as the French 1914 uniforms. -- Al

Thanks Al. I think we both agree on Imperial German cavalry uniforms and World War I French 1914 uniforms. They are hard to beat.

Here is another special double set of Imperial German cavalry that I have in my collection. It is 1233 4th Prussian Hussars.

More beautiful cavalry, Mike. I must be getting old as I just noticed that the horse blankets are color coordinated with the regimental colors of each regiment. :redface2: -- Al

Thanks Al, your right, they are beautiful cavalry. Maybe that is our more feminine side coming out as we age.

This is the special band version of set 1148 German Imperial Totenkopf Husaren that I have in my collection. Bob Walker had ordered both of these Imperial German cavalry bands first. After I saw them, I also ordered them the following year.

I also have special double set versions of Hiriart's various camel corps sets. This is 1136 British Camel Corps, Sudan. The four figure catalog set has the officer standing next to a reclining camel; my version has him mounted.
