Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (1 Viewer)

Drat! Another set that I never knew existed. That's a really neat set.^&cool -- Al

Hi Al,

Yes, it is really a neat set. Although I already had World War I sets from Hiriart, Frontline, and others, I had to buy this set when I saw it. I believe there may be an add-on set (Martyn?) to go with this one that has three dragoons.

Hi Mike

I have info for three German mounted sets including your one.

The other two are:-

set# GW32 5th WESTPHALIAN ULAN REGIMENT - Three Troopers with rifles, one is also armed with a lance. All wearing Ulan headdress with waterproof cover.

set# GW33 3rd KURASSIER REGIMENT - Three Troopers armed with lances. All wearing picklehaubs with covers.

Cheers

Martyn:)

Hi Martyn,

Thanks for the info. So, Len made three different sets from three different regiments each wearing different headgear. Pretty neat.

This is the only Dragon Crest set that I have in my collection. It is set DEW2 Egyptian Infantry Firing and Loading. Interestingly, the figures are on rectangular bases rather than terrain bases.

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your kind words. Good hearing from you again. I hope you saw my Imperial collection since both of us are big Imperial fans.

Saint George's Cross does make some interesting and unique figures; it is just too bad that you can't find them anymore. Check out my thread under Dioramas on Bob Walker's 6th Annual Open House where there are several additional sets posted including the flag sets (which I sold to Bob and now wish I had kept) and a Red Army set.

Best regards,

This set in my collection is from a company that I have never heard of before. It is from Paul Wood Design in England. It is set 33 of 100 of THE GREEN HOWARDS, 1688 (Luttrell's Regiment). I was immediately attracted to the box art when I first saw it. I don't if they made any similar sets or not. Do any of you have any information on this company?

Yes , I spotted your imperial figures [love the HS highand square display ] . I dont own any of Imperials
earliest sets so its nice to see them. It has been quite some time since I have managed to call past
Imperial , so fingers and toes crossed they will have something new in the works next time.
The last couple of years for me seems to have been all matte figures so I need to address the balance
in my collection with some more glossys.

Regards Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks, I like the Imperial HS highland display, too. I pretty much have completed my collecting of Imperial's sets, although I do sell my duplicates at the West Coaster each year. I also have both Heirloom sets that were done as Gordon Highlanders, but they are still in their boxes and not displayed. Other than Frontline's new matte offerings (currently, the Seven Years War), I collect only glossy figures, especially Hiriart, of which, I typically add about 30 new sets a year.

Best regards,

Mike,
Just a quick note to say what a pleasure it has been to see the remarkable collection you have put together. Thank you for taking the time to photograph the troops and sharing your knowledge and passion for the hobby with us.
All the best,
Lawrence

Best regards,

Per your suggestion I contacted Sergio and he no longer stocks the St George Cross figures but believes he can order them. The extimatyed cost is $145 per set which seems a very good deal.

Hi Lawrence,

Thank you for your kind words; I am glad you have enjoyed not only my collection, but my passion, and knowledge of our hobby, such as it is. BTW, I must make an effort to attend a Symposium in the near future (before I get to old to do it) so I can see both your and Louis's fabulous collections.

Best regards,

Hi Bob,

That is great news! Does he have a list of the sets that are available? Maybe he can bring some to the next West Coaster, as he has done in the past.

Mike,
I am looking forward to have you come by whenever you get the chance. Have room here at the inn, so no need to worry about hotel space. Just let me know when you can make it and I will work out the details with Louis and the other collectors in the area whose collections make mine look modest in comparison. All the best, Lawrence

Did not seem to have anything he could send me. I told him what era (WW1) I was interested in and he told me what was avalible ( Russians and Germans )

Lawrence,

Your collection dwarfs mine, so don't include me in the collection that make your's look modest.{eek3} About the only collections I know of that might be larger than yours are Bob Walker's Jim Hillestad's and Rich Schuster's . . .

Hi Lawrence,

Wow! Thank you. That is very generous of you. When is the next one scheduled?

Best regards,

There was a company in Houston, Texas which operated under the name of Mars Limited, Regiments of the World. The owner was E. H. Weeks, who I met at the 1993 Chicago Show; unfortunately, he passed away soon there after and the company disappeared. He had a large catalog with more than 300 sets listed. There were a large number of ACW sets in the catalog, but there was also an emphasis on Texas themed units. As a collector, who likes unusual subject matter, I was drawn to some of their offerings.

Set No. 170 is HAWAII KING KALAHANA I ROYAL GUARD, 1886. How is that for an unusual set? Set No. 292 is U.S. ARMY INFANTRY, 45TH DIVISION, 1941-1945. Set No. 138 is BRITISH S.A.S., NO. 1 DRESS, 1980.

Here are two Tedtoy America Toy Soldier sets that I have in my collection, but I they are not on display. They are U.S. Marines in their early World War II uniforms in 1941. Ted makes great sets which I recommend to any glossy collector and he is genuinely one of the nicest guys in our hobby.
