Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (2 Viewers)

This is a great set! Didn't know Tradition made any Prussians. Enjoy!

I didn't know that they did either. My other Napoleonic Wars Prussian sets from other manufacturers are all wearing shakos, unlike this set. The 700 and 800 numbered Tradition sets usually are in the larger square boxes with eight figures, although this set 777 has the smaller box with six figures. I had not seen this set before.

Hi Mike,

I think they are wearing these funny caps because they are "Landwehr" (ie: Reservists) The guys in rhe shakos are "Line Infantry".

Nice set!

Happy Collecting!

This is a eBay acquisition from last week by Tradition of London: Set No. 777 PRUSSIAN INFANTRY, PRUSSIAN ARMY NAPOLEONIC WARS.

Thanks for the close up of these figures, they look very nice, especially in gloss finish.

I've only seen images of them on the Tradition website,

Toy_soldiers_777-83f5699d.jpg

but I think I may get a set of castings and make a grouping of them, but mine will be in matte finish, of course :)

Yes, they also make 4 sets of glossy painted Landwehr Cavalry and Blücher Mounted and on foot in their Toy Soldier Range, which are also available as castings.

AND they have 74 NAP figures in their Model Figure Range !!!!

Hi Bob,

I knew that they were Landwehr, but I can't remember for the life of me what that reservist cap is called. I also have wondered if the U.S. Army Mexican-American War cap wasn't inspired by the Prussian Napoleonic Wars Landwehr cap.

It is a nice set. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip, John. I'll have to check out their website.

Last week, I picked up on eBay a Frontline Figures set from the Napoleonic Wars Series 1804-1815: AUSTRIAN ARMY, INFANTRY, ARCHDUKE ANTON VICTOR REGIMENT, set ANI.2 SIX MARCHING. It came in a Frontline box, but for a different set. I have always considered Frontline's Napoleonic series at $108 for a set of six figures to have been a real bargain given the quality of the sculpting and painting.

Although I already have a Junkers JU-88 two-engine bomber in my World War II Philippine mahogany warbird collection, I recently picked up another one with a different camouflage scheme. The original one is in 1/48 scale and has sand and green desert/Mediterranean camouflage while the new JU-88, in 1/36 scale, has green and black camouflage with yellow engines and vertical stabilizer. I have tried to keep my warbird collection consistent with fighters in 1/32 scale, two-engine bombers in 1/48 scale, and four-engine bombers in 1/72 scale. However, since this version did not come in 1/48 scale, it was 1/36 or nothing. The difference in the two scales is the 1/36 scale has a wingspan of 22 inches and a length of 16 inches compared to the 1/48 scale's wingspan of 19 + inches and length of 14 inches. This may not sound like much, but when side-by-side, the 1/36 scale is much larger and beefier.

The Junkers JU-88 was the Luftwaffe's most versatile aircraft whose initial production started in 1936 and continued right up until the end of the war. Originally designed as a fast bomber, other variants included a night fighter, a reconnaissance plane, dive-bomber, ground attack aircraft, and torpedo bomber. These variants were made with the aircraft's basic structure virtually unchanged. Junkers produced more than 16,000 JU-88s during the war. The JU-88 A-1 was powered by two Junkers Jumo 211B, 12-cylinder V, liquid cooled engines, generating 1,200 HP each. It had a maximum speed of 280 MPH, a service ceiling of more than 26,000 feet, and a range of more than 1,000 miles with a 4,000 pound bomb load. Its original defensive armament of three machine guns proved to be inadequate and was subsequently corrected on the A-4. Other versions were armed with up to six 20 mm cannons and one machine gun.

This morning, part one of the 2018 Hiriart order was delivered. It contained 61 sets, including nine for me. This is a non-catalog set of the BULGARIAN ELITE REGIMENT CLEMENTINE, 1905. They are wearing the uniforms that they would have worn during the Balkan Wars and at the start of World War I.

Another Hiriart camel corps set in this month's shipment is 1326 BRITISH CAMEL CORPS, EGYPT. There is also one additional camel corps set in this month's shipment which I failed to photograph: 1324 EGYPTIAN CAMEL CORPS, 1885. So, that completes the posting of eight of the nine Hiriart sets that I added to my collection in February. The balance of the 2018 Hiriart order with 89 sets includes 12 more sets for my collection that will be spread out over several shipments during the course of this year.
