Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (2 Viewers)

Hi Mike,

What a great set!! I must have been asleep that day and missed the ebay listing.

Like you, I had never seen it before or was aware of its existence. Well done!!

Regards,

Bob

Hi Bob,

It is a great set and I am lucky to have found it. My Bastion set list ends with set A.65 Gordon Highlanders 1899, but six of the "A Series" sets are missing from that list. Also, I have acquired a number of sets which are unknown set number variations of existing numbered sets. These are usually in action and marching at the slope or at the trail sets. I am preparing to depart on Friday for a South American vacation to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay, but when I return, we should compare notes via regular email to see if we can fill in any blanks.

Best regards,

Mike

Hi Mike these must be quite rare I’m always looking for bastion but can never find them

Regards John

Hi John,

Bastion is becoming more and more difficult to find either on eBay or at auction. That being said, I have about 30 duplicate sets which I would like to trade or sell for $80 USD per set. They include a number on unknown set number variations on existing sets (e.g. French Foreign Legion, Chasseurs a Pied, etc.) which I believe are rare. Let's compare notes when I get back from South America in early February.

Best regards,

Mike

This is another World War II Philippine mahogany warbird that I picked up on eBay. It is a Luftwaffe Dornier Do.17Z Flying Pencil twin-engine schnell bomber in 1/32 scale from Toys & Models Corporation. Its wing span is 22 inches and its length is 19 1/2 inches, so it is fairly large. It was powered by two BMW Bramo 323P, 9-cylinder radial, air-cooled engines developing 1,000 hp each. It had a maximum speed of 255 MPH, a ceiling of 26,900 feet, and a range of 720 miles. It had 6/8 machine guns and could carry a 2,200 pound bomb load. At the outbreak of World War II, there were 370 Do.17s in Luftwaffe service. It was withdrawn from front line service towards the end of 1942 and was replaced by the more powerful and efficient Dornier Do.217.

Beautiful model. Love the war birds. Chris

Thank you Chris. I wish I had more room to display some of the war birds you collect, but I have had to limit myself to just WWII Philippine mahogany war birds.

Thanks for sharing the link.
Many years ago I bought some of the 1900 Colonials from them, but since then never saw them again...I had thought they had gone out of business.
Cheers
Luiz
Luiz, I believe East of India is long out of business. The website is 10 years out of date. Too bad as they made some nice stuff. -- Al

Unfortunately, it is true. East of India has been out of business for years.

This is Bastion Models unboxed set A.40 FRENCH CHASSEURS A PIED IN ACTION 1914. There is also set A.27 FRENCH CHASSEURS A PIED 1900 which I also have where the figures are marching at the slope. I posted photos of that set some time ago.

I normally try to acquire Bastion sets in their 8-figure boxes, but this isn't always possible. I have recently acquired a couple of the 6-figure sets which are usually in green boxes rather than the standard maroon boxes. This is unboxed Bastion set A.20 GERMAN INFANTRY ADVANCING 1914.

There are also a couple of new John Jenkins Romans with yellow shields and Hiriart Norwegian Guard and East German Guard singles on the table with them. Some other recent auction pick ups include are a dozen Bastion Models sets.
