Excellent additions, Mike. JJD's Jacobite Rebellion figures have always been my favorites, being so animated and especially so colorful. Just great figures. -- Al

Last Friday, I received my latest John Jenkins Designs toy soldiers. There were 17 sets from the Jacobite Rebellion 1745. There are an addition two sets on the way.

Nice additions to your collection! What prompted you to get into collecting this series?

Hi Brendan,

Well, I am an eclectic collector, or more accurately, an accumulator as Ed Ruby once observed about my collecting style. Although I mainly collect classic, marching 54mm glossy figures, I have also steadily moved into the realm of 60mm matte figures. I really couldn't pass on John Jenkins's colorful kilts and trews on the figures from the Jacobite Rebellion. Heck, even my wife liked them, which is a rarity. My first purchase of a John Jenkins series was the Seven Years War Battle of Leuthen sets including all the walls, gateway, and snowy base. I then started buying the Raid on Saint Francis series including the booster sets of the Colonial Provincial Regiments and British Grenadiers. Now, I am in serious trouble as I then starting buying the John Jenkins Gallipoli Campaign series. Which brings to my new favorite, the mid republic Romans and their enemies. John, your killing me! Actually, it is not his fault, these are self-inflicted wounds.

I also started collecting King & Country's Battle of Tarawa series US Marines and some Japanese. I have commissioned Gary Founier to make me a 24 x 12 inch seawall base including a bunker and a breached section. Gary made the original versions for Toy Soldiers of San Diego. I have also started buying Thomas Gunn Romans and have more than 20 sets.

Sorry for the long winded answer to a simple question, but I was a sales manager for years and I guess the gift of gab comes with the territory.

Mike

These are two additional John Jenkins sets from the Jacobite Rebellion, each with two figures, that I recently picked up. I probably will add four or so additional sets and then call it quits due to display space limitations.

This is the latest Philippine mahogany World War II war bird that I recently picked up on eBay. It is a 1/32nd scale Grumman F4F Wildcat Naval fighter from Toys & Models Corporation. Its wingspan is 14 inches and its length is about 11 inches. The F4F Wildcat went into service in 1940. When the war broke out in December 1941, the Navy had acquired 248 F4F-3s and F4F-3As. In all, about 7,800 were built by Grumman and General Motors. Although it was ultimately replaced by F6F Hellcats on large fleet carriers, it was used on small British carriers and American escort carriers right up to the end of the war in 1945.

The Wildcat was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830-76 Twin Wasp, 14-cylinder radial, air-cooled engine with a twin supercharger generating 1,200 horse power. Its' maximum speed was 330 MPH, its' ceiling was 37,500 feet, and its' range was 845 miles. It was initially armed with four .50 caliber machine guns, later increased to six. It could also carry 200 pounds of bombs.

These are four new British 4th Regiment of Foot sets from John Jenkins Jacobite Rebellion series that I picked up on eBay last week: separately and then incorporated into the group. There is one more set on the way and that should do it for this series.

I received two additional sets yesterday which closes out the John Jenkins Jacobite Rebellion series for me. I now have 25 sets with 40 figures from this series. I am looking for an appropriate backdrop or building facade to display them with. One thing is certain, I have to get these figures off the dining room table before we have Easter dinner in two days.

Mike, great acquisitions! Some low stone walls work well this range as there were farms in the area of the battle.

Thanks Rich. I am looking for the King & Country Scottish gate to use as a backdrop or possibly a color print of the Battle of Culloden as per the attached. The stone walls would also work---thanks for the suggestion. Mike

At the last Old Toy Soldier auction, I picked up this formation of Heyde-like 19th century 48mm Austrian Infantry.

At that auction, I also picked up this Nickolson set of Spanish Foreign Legion.

This is a recent pick up on eBay from Saint George's Cross: WORLD WAR I GERMAN INFANTRY in winter greatcoats. It didn't include a box, so I don't know the set number.

Well, did you succeed in your mission???? {sm3}{sm4}

I did, but barely. Now, I am repopulating it with newly acquired King & Country and John Jenkins armored fighting vehicles, at least until I am ordered to get them off the table. I have attached a photo of Bob W's dinning room table which has looked like this for at least three years---never to be used again to eat on. Say, I wonder if my wife would let me...nah, forget about it..

I would love to display figures on a big table like that.....but so would my cats.

Would wake up to a new arrangement every morning, with many troops redeployed to the floor.

I don't know, Mike - there's a corner where you could just about fit a cup of tea and a sandwich! jb;)

I recently picked up these three additional Roman Byzantine Guards made by Thomas Gunn. So, I now have one of each of the four variations.

Another addition to my John Jenkins French & Indian War series Raid on St. Francis are these two regiments: The Pennsylvania Provincial Regiment and the British 60th Regiment of Foot (the Royal Americans). In the background are two new Hudson & Allen 18th century building facades that I picked up at the same time which I will use as backdrops to display all six regiments which now comprise more than 70 figures.
