The only Hiriart Spanish Civil War set I received last month was ES-12 BATALLON DEL REQUETE, TERCIOS DEL SUR, 1939. The Requetes were Catholic, Carlista Monarchists who, along with Spanish Foreign Legion and Moroccan units, were considered to be the best troops on the Nationalist's side.

More Italian troops from Hiriart: this is a stock photo of set No. 1206 ITALIA FARA DA SE with a Mussolini personality figure. These are Fascisti Jiovanotti or Young Fascists. I am not sure what the set name means, but it could be something like "They do it themselves."

Hello Mike,
I noticed this picture and your comments; actullay the set name is mispelled correct wording is "L’Italia farà da sé" , this was one of the many sentences that were used at the time of the war against Abissinia in 1935, when Italy, following the Societé des Nations trade sanctions went on the autarchy path. The obious meaning is we shal do by us ourselves.

Fantastic collection!

Thank you, I am glad you like my collection. And thank you for the correct translation, it was beyond my meager knowledge of Italian to get it right.

In the January Hiriart shipment, I received this non-catalog set of ESCUELA POLITECNICA CABALLERIA DE GUATAMALA. They somewhat remind me of Japanese cavalry circa 1900-1905. This is the third Hiriart Guatemalan set in my collection. I also have one more on order for this year.

This is my third special commission set from Hiriart which covers the 1912 Balkan War. These are the MONTENEGRIN KING NICHOLAS I HONOR GUARD, 1910. They are wearing traditional regional garb which was also worn by Montenegrin reservists. The previous two Balkan War sets I received were Bulgarian and Greek Infantry. This year, I have Romanian Infantry on order.

It really is amazing how wide the variety is that Hiriart is willing to make. Hiriart seems willing to make just about anything requested and they do it so well. It is a remarkable company. Mike's collection in this section makes this the best and most varied section on the forum. There is always something new and different showing up. -- Al

Hi Dave,

It is quite interesting; it was Bob W's favorite Hiriart set (of eight) that he received in January. We both like unusual, rarely done subject matter. As I have said before, the wide variety that Hiriart produces is what initially attracted me to them in the first place. I am more than happy to share them with the minority on the Treefrog Forum who like traditional, glossy 54mm toy soldiers.

Hi Al,

Thank you for your kind comments. I have never had Hiriart reject any request that I have made for something new or different in the more than 10 years that I have been dealing with them. They are a remarkable "mom and pop" company.

Mike

In January, I received this special variation on Hiriart catalog set 1216 BAHAMAS POLICE. Several years ago, I ordered the catalog set which is a 19-figure band.
