At Chicago I picked up some primed ACW figures from Conte. This one is an Union officer. Seen it in the Standard paint so I thought I would try a Zouave officer.

Starting with red and black. Already this differs from the original. The red will get two maybe three different shades. The black will get some brown for wear and a satin finish.

KV, looks like a great painting subject. Btw what make is the Winged Hussar?

Jeff

Looks like it is from Tradition.

I agree, starting with the tin sheet base, and again, once I got a closer look at the casting's details. Though, I don't recall offhand if there was a winged hussar in the Stadden catalog. But it sure looks like one.

Prost!

Don't know about the current catalogue but they certainly produced them when they hand animated each figure back in the late 1900s which would fit in with the tin base.

I really don't know much about the Hussar. I am working on it for Myzchka Hall.

A great ACW figure from Conte indeed!

Thought this front shot might be more clear.

I also thought I had more shots taken of the progress. Obviously a lot of work has been done. I apologize. I did the skin next a mixture of flat flesh and a brown. Worked on hair color then the jacket. Brass detail was next then a metal mix for the sword and flask.

This is a wonderful figure with a wealth of detail. I will try to point them out when completed.

The base was next. I painted the stones black, shrubs a dark green and An earth color. When this dried I came back with a brighter green for the vegetation. More base work will follow.

Very nice work, KV! I remember you showing this to me in Chicago after you bought it. I hope you'll post a pic of the Winged Hussar when he's finished.

Cheers.

It is a great figure. I have often looked at various painted figures and wondered how I measure up. Now we shall see.;)

Just saw this thread of yours Michael. The Conte figure was a nice pick-up at the Chicago show and you have certainly done a fine job of painting it . . .

Better. OK So obviously a lot has been done. Got distracted and forgot to take more pictures.

After finishing the flag I was not happy with the overall out come. Something was not right an I had my suspicions and a few ideas to make this a better piece of work. I wanted it to pop!

So I checked in with a fellow nutter and he confirmed my ideas without being biased by my ideas. So what I did do was use anther red to finish highlighting the sash. Lightened up the blue a bit and did some real base work. Also stained the white of the flag to make it look a bit more period. After all days in the field would have it grimy and yellowed.

So whilst I am not completely happy with it I am more pleased than before.

And yes, the Tank is another project to be started on soon.

Very nicely done My Lord General an photograph you've done a great job of mastering your painting skill.........Your Humble Aide de Camp.....The Lt.
