To further your point, it's down to the Yankees and Mets, currently sitting at 750 million, the RS are out, so two NY teams.

As long as the Red Sox are a middling spender, all they will do is attract mid level free agents and they'll have to pirate their minor league system to overpay on pitching and they'll be one of the teams hoping and praying for a WC spot and go on a run and steal a WS, they are no longer players like the Yankees and Dodgers are, no shot at all at the AL East, it's the Yankees to win for the foreseeable future.

Oh joy.

Yes I think the owners have made some big mistakes. And the price of tickets and other items are making it unaffordable to go to game. Might as well watch it on tv.

Soto to the Mets is the best news of the day. Dick Allen was a ball player. Glad to hear that as well.

Great news! Today is Juan-derful.

However, they still have a lot of work to do. Hopefully, they can re-sign Pete to back up JS and re-sign Manaea.

The economics of the sport are broken.

I'm glad that the Mets topped the Red Sox' offer.

You just cannot justify these contracts, utter insanity.

And Mets fans will now have something to celebrate after Bobby Bonilla day ends in 2035.

Good QBs in the NFL are paid 40 MM and Mahomes is receiving 52 MM this year but no one complains about the NFL being broken. Top entertainers earn similar, if not more, money but no one complains that their industry is broken. Soto is one of the best players in the sport and he is being paid accordingly.

There's a 5 year out in the contract; either the mets pay him 4 million more per year annually after the 5 year or he's a free agent again.

Can't blame the guy, what's a fella supposed to do with 765 million dollars, the price of groceries is way up.

Some Mets fan on the Boston based sports forum I'm on is doing a victory lap, "This ain't your Father's Mets", once the Mets win a couple of WS titles, the money will be worth spending, I can see the NLCS the next 10 years being the real WS, the AL stinks."

This from a guy whose team hasn't won a WS title in close to 40 years.

My "Father's Mets" won two WS titles last time I checked.

And paying someone 765 million dollars to hit a baseball is pure insanity, I don't care what that assbag Mahomes makes while being in the referees back pocket or what Deniro makes to make pretend he's someone else or what Swift makes whining about her latest break up to a bunch of screaming nitwits.

Pay that sort of money to teachers, surgeons or PD/FD personnel; you know, people that actually matter.

Whether you like it or not, athletes, actors and singers are in the entertainment business and the best ones (or the most popular) are going to earn a lot of money. People in public service should make more money as they contribute more to society but those are different businesses.

I don't like it.

I think it sucks.

Which is why as the years go by, I give less and less of a **** about sports.

Like I always say, it is hard for me to take too much of a stand on this considering the Giants won all of their recent World Series while being in the top 3 in payroll.

However at this point there are about 10 big market teams that have a true shot at winning it all. The small and mid-market teams are just cannon fodder.

You've got the Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Braves and Mets in the NL, the Yankees, Orioles, Indians and Astros in the AL, so to your point, yes, 9 teams that have a shot, the rest are kidding themselves.

During most baseball seasons pre free agency only a number of teams were competitive and actually had a chance of winning. Following the leagues splitting into divisions and then WCs, the game has become more competitive; more teams have the opportunity to win.

I’ve never been concerned about how much players are going to be paid. Oh, it’s fun to see how much so and so gets paid but as it’s not money, I don’t really care. I focus on the players on the team, not their dollar signs. If that’s all you’re going to focus on, then why bother.

The "It's not my money" way of thinking always cracks me up when ticket prices go up and up and up every year and it costs 42.00 for a beer and a hot dog at the stadium.

Owners have to make than money back somehow, it's the fans who pay the freight, so in reality, it is your money, which is why I haven't been to a RS game since 2019, they keep jacking up ticket prices and concession prices while in turn they put a ****ty product on the field, so I vote with my wallet, it's that simple.

The money you pay to get into the park, etc. is a small portion of the income but as a fan I’m happy to pay it.

If you hate things so much why do you even bother to post here anymore. Over at the music forum I frequent, which has a very large sports section, no one complains about the matters you bring up. They focus on the game, the players and so forth.

Oh, can I get you some cheese with your whine?

You're just the type of fan the owners love; shelling out your money and you're happy to pay it.

Good for you.

You just keep being you Brad.
