Likewise with the comments H.
Very nice set up. Giant leap forward in terms of your photos - looks like you've mastered the settings. Good natural looking backdrop that blends nicely with your dio.

Great stuff! :)

Thanks Simon.
I generally get some peace and quiet throughout the afternoons while my better half is attending her English Language Classes, so I've had a chance to play around with the camera. I think the backdrop picture is a snap I took in Yemen some time ago. I've another one of some spectacular sand dunes in Oman that I can use as well.
Actually, Missus Heid's been telling me that her teacher is continually correcting the strange accent she has when speaking English. Can't imagine were she picked that one up....:rolleyes::):);)

NMA 8-Rad with a couple of K&C Italian Blackshirts.
Obviously, I now regret not getting the DAK version of this vehicle. Should be easy enough to change that registration plate though and I should find a suitable decal sheet next time I'm in HK.

H,
There's usually several of the DAK version on ebay for no more than $40.

Simon,
ebay presents a problem for me, as does ordering from dealers, due to the fact that I don't have a postal address in China. Maybe once things settle down I'll drag myself off to the Post Office and see about getting a PO Box Number. But right now, my heid is still nipping after the 2-1/2 week rigmarole it took to get the 20-ft container with all our household goods (and TS collection) we shipped from Dubai to Dalian released by Chinese customs.:eek::rolleyes:
And even if I did get a local PO Box, what I wonder, would Chinese customs make of me importing Toy Soldiers, Vehicles, Etc. I reckon it would just be another opportunity for "backsheesh" i.e. Ransom Money.
Talk about Sair Heid....!!!! :p:confused:

Cheers

Could you not have items shipped to say a friend who does have an address?

Ever sense that someone you don't know has been on your computer?

Lenswerks,
I collect Toy Soldiers - I don't have any friends - boo hoo....!!!!
Naaah, a postal address is something I need to get to work on. But then again, my company's going to be opening an office in Beijing soon and we'll probably set up a support base in Tanguu in the near future as well, and guess who's hoping to get involved? So it could well be that I'll be able to use my company's postal address in China for future non-K&C purchases. Guess I'll just hang fire and see how it all pans out.
See? International Oilfield Troubleshooter. I know all the correct lingo...!!!:eek::rolleyes::rolleyes::)

Hi guys,
Wondered if there might be some interest amongst our SOHK & IC collectors as to the progress we're making in upgrading our display cabinets for these ranges. So I thought I'd post some photos of them tonight.
We've obtained some more Chinese miniature tables and these are very effective in enhancing the displays, but what we picked up today are those miniature screens that we're using as backgrounds. Aren't they gorgeous? Far better than hanging Chinese pictures behind the open cabinet, I think. And those matt-painted black&red vases are something else as well.
Not finished with the cabinets as yet, but a definite improvement IMO.
:):)

Sorry Jeff, its dark'o'clock in Dalian now and I simply can't obtain any decent close-ups at the moment. Will try again in the morning once I have some natural light to play with.

Cheers

Yeah, nice aren't they? And they really suit the SOHK pieces.
Local retailers were initially in "take the pi$$" mode when quoting prices. But after a few choice words they quickly realised that I'm no tourist. We're now getting quite good deals on the stuff we're using to display our SOHK & IC collection. Still getting ripped off to a certain extent, but nothing like by as much as the retailers would prefer. Communists....???? Don't make me laugh....!!!!:rolleyes::cool::cool:
The two display cabinets are actually made down south in Guangzhou (used to be called Canton). I've been trying to get my hands on some of that red lacquer they use, so's I can make all those miniature tables more closely resemble the cabinets thenselves.

NEW DIO UNDER CONSTRUCTION

And yes, that indeed is a plastic coathanger at the back that's had the hacksaw treatment. Its going to help support the piece of tarmacked road thats going to be above the tunnel. And the embryonic gunpit is indeed a plastic (?) ashtray that'll be transformed over the next couple of days.
But the real reason I'm posting these two snaps is; I have a small collection of Zippo lighters that I've picked up here and there - Mostly they say "Hard Rock Cafe" on them. But anyway, check out what Missus Heid came back with from her English classes today. God bless 'er....!!!!

Harry.........all I can say is that this is the Dog's B......s!

Super stuff :)

Jeff

Great stuff works very well.

Thanks Alexdakar & Jeff.
I know the SOHK & IC ranges are not everyones cup of tea, and I don't really think they lend themselves to dioramas as such - I do believe though that they make for magnificent displays. Especially if, like me, you're in the happy position where you can add authentic Chinese items to the display - and "make them come alive".

Cheers

Harry, I forgot to say that I like the way you have mixed the figures from different sets to produce as you say magnificent displays. Really, really nice and thanks for taking the time to post all the photo's.

Jeff

Thanks for posting such fine pictures. The figures of SOHK and the cabinets are really nice. They go together so well. At least that is what I think. I am no interior decorator:D Just a guy who likes the pictures. Zippo lighters. I have four in a special case somewhere that celebrates D-Day 50th Anniversary. They looked neat so I bought them one day. I had an engraved Zippo from the service with all the places I been. I treasured it for 15 years when someone stole it off a bar one night. Still mad about it. Leadmen
