Hi guys,

I too, received my very first round of the Continental figures. These are THE best figures I've ever seen and I can't express the delight I had in handling and seeing these things right in front of my own eyes. I was so overwhelmed with their beauty that, for a fleeting moment, I wanted to blow away the rest of my hobby funds and order the balance of the range.

For what it's worth.......here's some quick shots I took of my figures.

Unfortunately I had one casualty. One figure's hand broke off as I took him out of the box. It came off quite easily at that. Does anyone know if Matt will exchange him?

It looks like the glue failed and it came out of it's socket. I had a head come off one of mine, but was able to glue it back on. It came out of its socket so cleanly that I can't tell it had ever been off even looking at it under a magnifying glass. But if that doesn't work for you, I'm sure from everything said on this Forum, he will exchange it hassle free.

Talking of experience Matt will exchange without any hassle! Just send him a mail!

I know exactly how you feel. When mine arrived last week, it was a dream come true.

I am certain that he will exchange it but as Terry said, that is an easy and seamless fix. As I have noted before, the way hands and heads and even some arms are joined they are all quite easy to fix or reposition if you have the hankering (as I have had on occassion).;) Personally I would use the opportunity to reposition the way the musket is being held and have yet another figure variation. In fact, if I had started this line, I would happily buy it from you.

Thank you all for your responses. If I try to fix this myself, what kind of glue should I use?

Mark

These certainly have filled a big gap in the market for us AWI collectors (dead figures especially very welcome), still catching up on soon to be retired K&C redcoats and Hessian's myself so probably won't be getting any myself until Christmas now. :(

I'm sure in the heat of battle men lost more than the odd hand so could paint the stump red for an authentic cannon ball hand decapitation!;)

Again great pics and good to see anything AWI on this forum as we are a small minority!:D

Congratulations Mark on your fine acquisitions. These are wonderful looking figures, why i can almost here the tune Yankee Doodle.
:) Mike

Matt, you should send Mel Gibson one of those. He would definately like it.

I simply use a standard fast drying superglue since for this you likely won't need filling. I have re-glued and changed the position of a number of hands and a few arms.

Don't know about hands. I have only one First Legion figure so far (Napoleonic) bought 2nd hand. The head was off when I got it, but glue easily fixed it. These figures are truly spectacular. I have already spent way too much on soldiers this year, but I know I am bound to order lots of the ACW figures when they are available. I would order the AWI and WWII figures too if I had enough dough.

Very nice figures congratulations and nice photo's , I know exactly how you feel . I was so impressed with my first grouping of Napoleonic figures that I have been spending just about all of my budget with First legion ever since . Its really nice to see RevWar collectors getting something to cheer about , Its not one of the ranges that seems to get much attention but that all seems to be about to change . I may buy the Mel Gibson looking figure and send it to him , I think he could use a pick me up ;) Happy collecting Gebhard

My first 8 figs arrived (the rest on Monday, still in customs) - no photos yet BUT these figures are just F A N T A S T I C!!! Wouw wouw wouw. The painting is the best I have ever seen on any 54mm pre-painted figure! Wellsculpting is in another league anyway.

So it really makes my laugh aloud when I read what some people have to say about these as compared to the so-called competition - just uncomparable!

Oh and btw this is not IMOHO - this is a fact which every objective observer will confirm. Accurate sculpts and fantastic painting.

Well done Matt.

Toy soldier collecting is all about personal preference...there is no such thing as 'fact with every objective observer will confirm'

You're entitled to enjoy what you like...but others are entitled to enjoy what they like.

Actually what you chose to collect is personal; why you chose to collect it is personal; what characteristics the items have are objective and confirmable facts. That distinction is more often lost than not.:)

The products and characteristics of the different manufacturers came be compared, but only partially. Each has qualities which make them attractive to collectors, otherwise how could gloss and matte figures both be in demand. It's a bit like trying to compare art - impressionist vs renaissance vs cubism vs abstract and so on. I've heard that some people collect more than one type of art and even more than one manufacturer's toy soldiers.:rolleyes::D

In short and in my opinion, there is no "best" - just different characteristics and qualities and individual preferences. I collect what I like, do not try to convince people to collect what I like, and am not bothered by what other people prefer to collect, even if what they collect doesn't appeal to me.

And yes the FL pieces are very high in the quality of sculpting and painting. Which is why I collect some of them.

The point here to me is not about any particular manufacturer but I think your comparison to art is a bit off the mark. The styles of impressionist vs renaissance vs cubism vs abstract are questions of preference. The brushstrokes, and evident technique for each style is a question of skill for the given style. Personally I could care less what anyone collects but observing a given level of achievement for a given release can most certainly be a factual observation, not an expression of taste.:)

Thus there can be a best; but that statement is without objective significance without the associated criteria. However, it is also harmless to the extent it reflects an individual's preference for a given product or manufactuer. I seem to recall many threads in several other forums which have manifested such personal exuberance.;)

You are more than welcome to declare that FL is the best! They are mighty fine figures. :D

You are not welcome to declare that anyone who disagrees with you is 'wrong,' implying that they are not as intelligent as you are.

We've been down this road too many times before...
