I would like to add my 2 cents.
I was an avid collector of K&C figures (like more than 1000 of those) and have also some collector's showcase figures, some Figartis and some honour bound and some Aeroart.
Those manufacturers are making products that are addressing sometimes the same era period of warfare and are treating these subjects a little bit differently : topic is different, sculpting is, scale is, painting is, rendering of faces is, price is, dealer network is, etc. You get my point.
HOWEVER if you check like me sometimes what the modelers are able to do these days in terms of 54, 75 or 90mm figures (check planetfigure.com for example), you'll see that the 3 manufacturers who are approching the most the quality/style/rendering of the best modeler's figure out there are in no particular order :
-St-Petersburg's figures
-Aeroart
-First Legion
FL is of course the leader of these 3 if we talk about price vs quality ratio and this is where is the strength of this company. FL figures are not for everyone but they're surely the best out there for someone like me who can't paint (don't know how to hold a brush) like the russians can. For the price those are a steal. Indeed, with my next order, I'm picking up the 90mm Saladin unpainted by FL and will get it painted by a pro modeler for something like 750-1000$... not for everyone but I can't wait to see the result !

As noted what is better or best is a subjective opinion. One should be happy with what they collect without denigrating another because saying "x" is best implies that "y" is not.
I didn't realize FL was making Pacific figures Only kidding. I'm glad that you are ecstatic with your purchase
Its funny but you never see any guys who collect Glossy , Plastic , Flats , 1/6 scale or any other kind of figures taking exception when someone professes their excitement over First legions products on the First legion thread
I would suggest that collectors attend a Miniature Figure collectors of America Show or something similar in their area . Some of the Best artist from all over the world attend and compete , Figures are judged on several criteria such as sculpting and painting and yes one is determined to be the best in each category and class . I think that is whats happening here on the forum in the Matte by Manufacturer category . Collectors are applying these same standards of judging on the Manufacturers listed in this sub category and whats wrong with that I didn't see anyone slinging insults . I would be interested to see one figure from each company entered into a Show and judged by unbiased judges , to my knowledge only Aeroart have entered their products in a international competition and won a medal . Maybe its time for other companies to give it a try It would be interesting to see what the experts think . In the end though who really cares ? Buy what you like and can afford. I don't understand why people get upset when collectors prefer First legion and say so . How many K & C threads have there been over the years saying K & C are best because....followed by post after post of this and that. I don't take offense and could care less , Its the K & C thread for GODS sake let them have their fun ....but hey give First Legion fans the same courtesy . Happy collecting whatever you collect .Gebhard
Please do not paraphrase..I did say that FIGURE PAINTING WISE - FL is the best available, that may be why they are pricier...And I wish that company as reputable as FL had the gonads to come up with a Pacific Series, since you mentioned it..
ALex,
I agree with your assessment and I think you have struck a point. Modelers are very different from "Toy Soldiers". I think we are all different. Some of us approach the hobby from a modelers perspective whereas others approach as a toy soldier collector. Again, different styles.
K&C is a hybrid of the two perspectives, hence why it has such a wide appeal. I think Britains is too.
FL is probably more geared for the modelers (or those who prefer that style) along with Aeroart, etc.
One of my finest pieces in my collection is an Aeroart Greek War Elephant. It is breathtaking.
Toy Soldiers perspective would reside on the glossy side meaning Trophy, Dorset, Ducal, Fusilier, Tommy Atkins, Toy Army Workshop, Errol John, Steadfast, etc. The Cottage Industry.
I think the Marlborough, Hocker, Durbar Ceremonial ranges are in a class by themselves too.
Again, it is all style and none are wrong. I have always thought the wrong thing to do is try and compare preference. These manufacturers are built for different folks. For me, I like them all in some respects b/c I don't sit firmly in either camp.

I don't think anyone has a problem with people sharing their enthusiasm for FL. It's when they say anyone can clearly see these are better than such and such or anyone who doesn't buy FL is a fool as the quality is simply the best. I don't collect FL and I certainly don't enjoy having my intelligence insulted because of it. I collect what I like as each member here should do, with out being told that if they do not collect such and such they are an inferior human being.
Toy soldier collecting is all about personal preference...there is no such thing as 'fact with every objective observer will confirm'
You're entitled to enjoy what you like...but others are entitled to enjoy what they like.
Im glad in your hysterical ramblings you're enjoying reading my posts. Taking the test of that something must be provable factually, take a look at that tank: you can take off the outside and you see the inside of the tank. Figarti used several hundred parts to make it. This tank is one that is easily the best.
So now run along and do whatever it is you do.
And then this sentence: "I would hope they would. However, it would be hard to beat the Tigers from a few years ago. Probably the best tank ever made." - taken from a Figarti thread, the author will recognise himself!
Now why did you not jump in there Mr Reuss??? Because an ex-moderator wrote it or because you agreed to it? Pathetic!
Guys don't get to worked up , and a quote from what a very wise man once told me may help you out " I hope we realize we're all having a lot of fun here and don't take ourselves too seriously. There are many more important things in the world to get wound up about than some pieces of metal." I know it helped me Please don't take it to the next level its really not worth it and will only end in another thread being locked down . Lets get back to First Legions FANTASTIC new releases All the best Gebhard
