Two of my "holy grail" pieces have been the wooden ambulance and fuel bowser, as shown below from the 1995 K & C brochure.

WARBIRDS1[1].jpg

I had pretty much figured that I would never be able to add one as only 25 to 30 were made. Three different types of the ambulance were made: British Army (green), RAF (blue) and Eighth Army (sand).

I recently found them and picked them up in Chicago a couple of weeks ago, long worth the wait. I now have the Spitfire, pilots (First of the Few) and groundcrew that completes the scene.

Brad,
Congratulations on your finds.

Thanks all. It was an opportunity I just couldn't pass up.

Jason, list is big. Some more of the Arnhem backlit buildings, Arnhem jeeps, and more of the older warbirds but the ambulance and bowser were special.

Hi Brad,

Congratulations for an excellent find! From personal experience, I know the satisfaction derived from acquiring special items you never thought would be included in your collection. The feeling that accompanies such an acquisition is one of those peak experiences that makes our hobby so special and which bring a huge smile to our faces. I could not be more pleased for you.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

In the mean time until I found such a piece...

Brad,
Incredible find! I bet you never thought you'd track both of those ultra-rare pieces down! There's nothing like that magical feeling of acquiring "holy grail list" items- congratulations and enjoy!!:smile2:

Pat, many thanks. I felt some of the same excitement that you felt when you tracked down some Hocker sets a couple of years ago.

Joe, you're quite correct. It was an opportunity that may never present itself again. Of, course, my wallet says I should have walked the other way ^&grin

Great job brad, i am happy for you and jealous as those are really fanatastic pieces. Those would have looked good with my gloss frontline. I only had the kc close dispatch rider which i sold to tom d. Great find. Next year i am going to tail you as u alway seem to know where the good stuff is.

Greg,

Thanks but I got lucky. Love that glossy dispatch rider. Have two of them.

Brad

Nice sets. I know what it was like when I got the four pilots last summer as I had been after them at a reasonable price for ages. I have the ground crew dispatch rider and a spit but, had not seen the original bowser and ambulance before. They are very nice

Brad, I know what you mean about your wallet saying you should have walked the other way ^&grin.
I'm a big proponent of grabbing holy grail list items should they ever materialize, and acting fast while I'm at it.:smile2: I've never regretted purchasing a holy grail list item, but I have regretted those times that I let the wallet do the thinking.
I'm sure you'll derive endless hours of enjoyment from your stellar, ultra-rare find!
You just can't put a price on that.:smile2:

The Holy Grail

You have obtained the Holy Grail of early K&C pieces
Suspect that your next quest will be
"Raiders of the Lost Ark"
