GAME OF THRONES---Peter Dinklage commented on the show's controversial ending, “They wanted the pretty white people to ride off into the sunset together. By the way, it’s fiction. There’s dragons in it. Move on. [Laughs.] No, but the show subverts what you think, and that’s what I love about it.
Yeah, it was called GAME OF THRONES, but at the end, the whole dialogue when people would approach me on the street was, ‘Who’s going to be on the throne?’ I don’t know why that was their takeaway because the show really was more than that.
One of my favorite moments was when the dragon burned the throne because it sort of just killed that whole conversation, which is really irreverent and kind of brilliant on behalf of the show’s creators: ‘Shut up, it’s not about that.’ They constantly did that, where you thought one thing and they delivered another. Everybody had their own stories going on while watching that show, but nobody’s was as good as what the show delivered, I think.”

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON---George RR Martin has seen a rough cut of Episode 1 and said, "I am anticipating HOUSE OF THE DRAGON pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book). Also … mum’s the word now, don’t tell anyone… I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy.
[producers] Ryan [Condal] and Miguel [Sapochnik] have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with Game of Thrones, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them. (Only to have your heart broken later when… but no, that would be telling). I think the Targaryens are in very good hands. Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed."

ACADEMY AWARDS---the 2021 telecast of the Academy Awards drew a dismal 10.4 million viewers and was bested by reruns of NCIS and YELLOWSTONE. VARIETY film critic Owen Gleiberman suggested that the only way to revive the annual telecast is for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to include the hugely popular superheroes in its candidates for Oscars, “Yes, I hated SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. It’s a movie that I’m a total annoying curmudgeonly naysayer about. So even though my antipathy isn’t the topic of this column, why hide it? Go ahead, throw tomatoes at me. But understand that I’m actually on your side.
In the past, the members of the Motion Picture Academy have considered superhero movies to be entertainment, not art, and the Oscars are supposed to be about art. Now, though, there’s a larger reason to nominate SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. The Oscars are on life support, or at least they’re heading there. They need mainstream cred; going forward, it’s nothing less than the oxygen that’s going to allow them to survive."
He added, "Whenever this argument gets made, it’s presented in strictly utilitarian, box-office-begets-ratings terms. If you want an Academy Awards telecast that wins more eyeballs than it loses, you’re going to have to nominate some of the movies that win eyeballs. I don’t disagree with that argument, and in a sense it’s the one I’m making. But this isn’t simply about numbers. It’s about a perception that drives the numbers. Sure, if NO WAY HOME gets nominated, a swath of its vast fan base might tune into the Oscars that wouldn’t have otherwise. But what I’m really talking about is the essential idea that movies are, and always have been, a populist art form. If that dimension of cinema isn’t respected, something has gone wrong."
In a related matter, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME has earned $610 million domestically which makes it the tenth highest-grossing movie in the US. Its world-wide box office of over $1.16 billion makes it the highest-grossing movie in Sony Pictures history.

FAST AND FURIOUS 10---Dwayne Johnson replied to Vin Diesel's public request that Johnson return for the next sequel, “I was very surprised by Vin’s recent post, This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly – and privately – that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. I privately spoke with my partners at Universal as well, all of whom were very supportive as they understand the problem.”

THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY---Keanu Reeves is in negotiations to star in the Hulu miniseries based on the book about serial killer Henry H. Holmes and architect Daniel Hudson Burnham during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. It is not known if Reeves will play Holmes or Burnham.
The book's synopsis says, “Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds—a torture palace complete with dissection table, gas chamber, and 3,000-degree crematorium.
Burnham overcame tremendous obstacles and tragedies as he organized the talents of Frederick Law Olmsted, Charles McKim, Louis Sullivan, and others to transform swampy Jackson Park into the White City, while Holmes used the attraction of the great fair and his own satanic charms to lure scores of young women to their deaths. What makes the story all the more chilling is that Holmes really lived, walking the grounds of that dream city by the lake. The Devil in the White City draws the reader into the enchantment of the Gilded Age, made all the more appealing by a supporting cast of real-life characters, including Buffalo Bill, Theodore Dreiser, Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Edison, Archduke Francis Ferdinand, and others.”

What I can promise you is that this is gonna make John Kramer fans very happy!!!" The new movie is a "John Kramer story" that is set before SAW III. Tobin Bell might return as Kramer.

TRIVIA---character actor Jack Pennick appeared in two sci fi movies with the number "20,000" in its title in which a sea vessel is attacked by a giant monster: Ray Harryhausen's THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS and Walt Disney's 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA---writer Simon Kinberg said his upcoming Universal Pictures movie based on the original 1978 tv series will be connected to Sam Esmail's upcoming Peacock tv series, "We are in the process of going out to directors and the hope is to attach a director and start prepping the movie this year. It's a megillah, humongous film and the prep will be a very long prep period so I would imagine even if we attached a director today it would take six, nine months to prep this movie properly. So at the earliest, we'd be shooting at the end of this year. We'd probably be shooting at the beginning of next year. Time will tell who the director is and then you or someone else will tell who the director is."
He added, "In terms of the situation with Sam and the show, I can't say too much about it other than there is synergy between the two enterprises and constant communication between us. We've become close and been having a really good time together and there will be, for lack of a better phrase and it's an overused phrase, a shared universe."

ALIEN---Noah Hawley gave more details about his FX tv series set on Earth, "ALIEN is a fascinating story because it’s not just a monster movie; it’s about how we’re trapped between the primordial past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us. It’s set on Earth of the future. At this moment, I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone’s going to monopolize electricity. We just don’t know which one it is.”
He added, “In the movies, we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence—but what if there are other companies trying to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg enhancements or transhuman downloads? Which of those technologies is going to win? It’s ultimately a classic science fiction question: does humanity deserve to survive? As Sigourney Weaver said in that second movie, ‘I don’t know which species is worse. At least they don’t f— each other over for a percentage.’ Even if the show was 60% of the best horror action on the planet, there’s still 40% where we have to ask, ‘What are we talking about it, beneath it all?’ Thematically, it has to be interesting. It’s humbling to get to play with the iconography of this world.”

MANHUNT---Apple TV+ miniseries based on the book about the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, Abraham Lincoln's assassin, MANHUNT: THE 12-DAY CHASE FOR LINCOLN'S KILLER. Tobias Menzies (THE CROWN) plays Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's Secretary of War, who helps lead the hunt for Booth.

1883---Rita Wilson, the wife of Tom Hanks, will guest star as Carolyn, a shopkeeper who befriends Margaret Dutton.

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME---Andrew Garfield commented on possibly returning in the future, “I mean, yes, definitely open to something if it felt right. Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, to the greater good and the many. He’s a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that, if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself.”
Garfield also commented on his denials that he was in the sequel, "It was stressful, I'm not gonna lie. It was rather stressful but also weirdly enjoyable. It was like this massive game of Werewolf that I was playing with journalists and with people guessing, and it was very fun. There were moments where I was like, 'God, I hate lying.' I don't like to lie and I'm not a good liar, but I kept framing it as a game. And I kept imagining myself purely as a fan of that character, which is not hard to do."

TRIVIA---Vincent Price and David Hedison starred in the original THE FLY. They reunited when Price guest starred on Hedison's VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA episode "The Deadly Dolls". Price said, "I was a guest star on VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA in the Summer of 1967. I played this evil Gepetto character and tormented Richard and David unmercifully the whole time. It was great fun."
Hedison said, "I never had any scenes with Vincent Price when we did filmed THE FLY in April of 1958. I talked to him a few times off set and we were at the wrap party together. I only knew him slightly then, as another Fox contract player, having seen him around the lot and in the commissary.
Nine years later, he came to Stage 10 as the villain in our 2nd episode of the 4th season. The plot was for him and his puppets to take over the Seaview. It was a very fun week, we were laughing and joking throughout the filming. I even goosed him once.
Vincent pulled me aside and remarked how much I had changed. That I had been so earnest, so serious about my acting on THE FLY and now I was so much more relaxed and having such fun with this material. He liked the change.
At the end of the week, Vincent invited me and Richard [Basehart] over to his house for dinner. Richard took his wife, Diana and I brought my girlfriend. It was a dinner party, Anne Baxter and several other old Fox stars were also there, making it a very lovely evening. To be able to sample Vincent's cuisine was a treat. He was a gourmet chef and the dinner was exquisite. There was also his fabulous art collection to peruse.
We remained friends until his death. Vincent was a lovely man with a terrific sense of humor. When I got married in 1968, he gave us his cookbook as a wedding present. We still use it, forty years later. I think of Vincent whenever we make one of his dishes."

A MAN CALLED OVE---Tom Hanks will star in the US remake of the Swedish comedy movie based on the novel about a curmudgeon who befriends the family that moves in next door. Marc Forster (WORLD WAR Z) is the director.

JUSTICE LEAGUE---Joss Whedon commented on Gal Gadot's claim that he threatened her after she asked a scene from JUSTICE LEAGUE be removed.The scene had The Flash falling on top of Wonder Woman which Gadot wanted removed because it sexualized Wonder Woman. When Gadot refused to film the scene, Whedon had her replaced with a body double. Whedon said,“I don’t threaten people. Who does that? English is not her first language, and I tend to be annoyingly flowery in my speech.” Whedon claimed he actually told Gadot that in order for the scene to be removed, she would have to tie his body down on a railroad track where a train would run over him and the scene would be removed over his dead body, “Then I was told that I had said something about her dead body and tying her to the railroad track." However, after Gadot heard about Whedon's version, she posted, "I understood perfectly. I will never work with him and would never suggest any of my peers to work with him in the future."
Whedon also responded to Ray Fisher's allegation that his role as Cyborg was reduced and his complexion was corrected by Whedon. Whedon said Cyborg's role was reduced because he “logically made no sense” in the storyline, and Fisher was a bad actor, "We’re talking about a malevolent force. We’re talking about a bad actor in both senses.”

THE ARK---Dean Devlin/Syfy tv series underway in which Ark One, a spaceship carrying passengers to colonize a distant planet, has a catastrophic event. The survivors must learn to cope with a year left before they reach their destination.

YESTERDAY---two fans, Conor Woulfe and Michael Rosza, have filed a $5 million class-action lawsuit against Universal Pictures for "deceptive and misleading advertising" because it advertised Ana de Armas was in the movie, but her scenes were cut. Woulfe and Roszas claimed they paid $3.99 each to watch the movie on Amazon Prime to see de Armas, but she was not in the cast. Their lawsuit said, “all money obtained from Plaintiff and the other members of the Class collected as a result of Defendant’s unfair competition, and for an injunction prohibiting Defendant from continuing and further engaging in its unlawful, unfair and fraudulent conduct, requiring corrective advertising, and awarding all other relief this Court deems appropriate.” Writer Richard Curtis said de Armas' scenes were cut after test audiences did not like her flirtation scene with Himesh Patel.

MOONFALL---Roland Emmerich commented on a possible sequel to the sci fi movie starring Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson, “I'm also not very high on sequels. But I tried this time to make this a trilogy, but I am not sure even if I want it anymore. I think if I do a sequel, I will make it a little bit more like the original STAR WARS, the second one will have a huge cliffhanger. Because that's totally lost on people. Everything always has to be clean cut. Why not leave them hanging and say, we left you hanging see the conclusion, in two years.”
He also talked about getting cooperation from NASA, "Well, I do this traditionally. I always used conspiracy theories because, not that I really believe in them in any way, it's more like it's kind of the lure of it. That it's on the internet, you can check it out on the internet, et cetera. There is like endless stuff about the moon. So, in that respect, it was so strange for me that we got supported by NASA. I have no clue why they're doing this. Honest to God. I have no inkling of an idea why they did this, but obviously they need it."

RED ONE---Chris Evans will co-star with Dwayne Johnson in this Amazon Christmas movie. The plot was not disclosed.

SQUID GAME---the series had 1.54 billion viewing hours in its first 28 days which made it Netflix's most-watched series ever.

CIVIL WAR---Kirsten Dunst and Stephen McKinley Henderson will star in this Alex Garland movie set in the near-future. No plot details were released.

FBI: MOST WANTED---Julian McMahon will leave the series during Season 3. No reason for his departure was given.

Salem played Miss Moneypenny in Sean Connery's last James Bond movie, NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN in which SPECTRE steals US Air Force nuclear-armed cruise missiles. Salem also co-starred with Connery in Michael Crichton's THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY in which she played Emily Trent and Connery played master thief Edward Pierce, who steals a train's gold shipment which is pay for British troops in the Crimea.

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS---Peter Dinklage commented on Walt Disney's live-action remake of its classic 1937 animated movie, “Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you’re still telling the story of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way but then you’re still making that f*cking backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*ck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soap box? I guess I’m not loud enough. I don’t know which studio that is but they were so proud of it. THE BATMAN---director Matt Reeves said THE BATMAN is not an origin movie, "...you could reboot Batman — it’s been done dozens of times since he first appeared in Detective Comics in 1939, almost certainly more. But would anyone have the stomach for yet another retelling of his origin story, from a slightly different angle? We’ve seen it so many times. It’s been done too much. I knew we couldn’t do that.”

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS---Walt Disney replied to dwarf Peter Dinklage's criticism of its live-action remake of the 1937 animated movie, "To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period."
