HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN---the reboot movie is being co-written by creator Mike Mignola. The plot has Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent in 1950s rural Appalachia where they battle witches led by the Crooked Man, a war profiteer who was hanged and returned as a devil.

FRASIER---Kelsey Grammer said the revival series will pay tribute to the late Kirstie Ally by having a character similar to her Rebecca Howe character on CHEERS, "When Kirstie died, I was pretty upset about it because I really loved her. She was a magnificent person (and gave) a wonderful performance in CHEERS. She was remarkable – I mean, the stuff she could pull off. So I did say to the writers of this incarnation of 'Frasier,' I said, 'If we find a character that can do what Kirstie Alley did in CHEERS, we will be a very lucky group of people.' So it is in the back of our minds."

STAR WARS---Liam Neeson has reversed his desire to return as Qui-Gon Jinn after stating last year he was open to returning in a STAR WARS movie, but apparently he is not interested in a tv series, “No, I’m not. There’s so many spinoffs of STAR WARS. It’s diluting it to me, and its taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.”

OUTER BANKS---Netflix renewed the series for Season 4.

DISNEY+---Disney+ cancelled THE MIGHT DUCKS: GAME CHANGERS and BIGSHOT.

BLOOD & TREASURE---Paramount+ cancelled the series.

THE SHROUDED COLLEGE---Seth McFarlane/Peacock tv series underway based on the graphic novel.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
Dick Van Dyke said in a 2013 interview on "The Kevin Pollak Chat Show" that he was offered the role of James Bond in 1968 after Sean Connery left the franchise, "I was doing CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG and Sean Connery had spoken about leaving the Bond pictures, you know, He had done several at the time. And Cubby Broccoli actually called me in [to his office] and asked me if I wanted to be Bond!" Broccoli was the producer of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG which was based on the book CHITTY-CHITTY-BANG-BANG: THE MAGICAL CAR by James Bond author Ian Fleming.
Pollak replied, "No, he didn't," but Van Dyke said, "Yes, he did!"
Pollak then jokingly mentioned Van Dyke's terrible Cockney accent in MARY POPPINS which has followed Van Dyke ever since, "He loved your English accent!"
Van Dyke replied, "I said, 'Have you heard [my British accent]? and [Broccoli] said, 'Oh, that's right! Forget it!'"

Dick Van Dyke, Sean Connery and his wife, Diane Cilento, met Queen Elizabeth II at the London premiere of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. Ironically, Connery left the James Bond franchise after YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE which led to Cubby Broccoli offering the 007 role to Van Dyke.

IRON MAN---Marvel Studios Vice President Stephen Broussard said Robert Downey, Jr. will not be returning as Iron Man, "I think one of the meta-narratives of Phase Four was about new characters. It was about new people stepping into mantles. If you look at, like, Cassie [Lang in QUANTUMANIA] getting a suit and Kate Bishop [in HAWKEYE], new characters being introduced like Jack in WEREWOLF BY NIGHT.
After these first 10 years of Marvel storytelling, torches are being passed, like with Robert Downey, Jr. no longer being [on the] table and stuff like that. So it was kind of like a new generation stepping to the forefront which, again, has always happened in the comics.”

DC STUDIOS---a fan asked DC Studios co-head James Gunn about his plans for Wonder Woman, "Does Wonder Woman have a future in your plans? Is she going to be abandoned for a long time." Gunn replied, "Yes; no."
Gunn also posted that SUPERMAN: LEGACY is not connected to MAN OF STEEL 2 and was underway before he was named co-head of DC Studios, "I was hired to write Superman Legacy over six months ago."

THE MANDALORIAN---Jon Favreau said Season 4 has already been written and hinted it might have crossovers with AHSOKA, “[Dave Filoni’s] doing AHSOKA, which I’m producing with him, but he’s the writer and showrunner on that. And so, to understand what’s happening on other shows or even SKELETON CREW, they all take place in the same STAR WARS time period. So, there’s a lot more things that we have to keep in mind and stuff that we’ve built up to from previous seasons of THE MANDALORIAN as well.”

THE LAST TRAIN FROM HIROSHIMA: THE SURVIVORS LOOK BACK---James Cameron said he wants to develop a movie based on the survivors of the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima in World War II, “We live in a more precarious world than we thought we did. I think the Hiroshima film would be as timely as ever, if not more so. It reminds people what these weapons really do when they’re used against human targets.”

JAMES BOND---producer Barbara Broccoli commented on rumors of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hardy, Jack O'Connell and many others being candidates to be the new James Bond, “We haven’t even started casting yet…there isn’t even a script.”

MINDHUNTER---David Fincher said there will not be a Season 3, “I’m very proud of the first two seasons, but it’s a particularly expensive series and, in the eyes of Netflix, we haven’t attracted a large enough audience to justify such an investment… I don’t blame them, they took risks to launch the series.”

TRIVIA---the leather flight jacket worn by Frank Sinatra (Col. Joseph Ryan) in the World War II POW movie VON RYAN'S EXPRESS was later worn by Bob Crane (Col. Robert Hogan) in the POW tv comedy series HOGAN'S HEROES and was then worn by Greg Kinnear in AUTO FOCUS, the movie about the mysterious and unsolved murder of Bob Crane after HOGAN'S HEROES. Sinatra's jacket is now on display with the HOGAN'S HEROES uniform worn by Warner Klemperer (Col. Klink) and the coat worn by John Banner (Sgt. Schulz) in the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, Ohio.

SOUTH PARK---a representative of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle denied rumors that the couple were suing the creators of SOUTH PARK after the show did a parody of the couple, “It’s all frankly nonsense. Totally baseless, boring reports.”
The episode, titled "The Worldwide Privacy Tour", had the fictional Prince of Canada and his wife embarking on a flashy worldwide tour and demanding privacy. In one part of the episode, the Prince is on GOOD MORNING CANADA to promote his new autobiograpy, WAAAGH, and the host asks, “Isn’t it true, sir, that your questionable wife has her own TV show and hangs out with celebrities and does fashion magazines?...Well, I just think that some people might say that your Instagram-loving b*tch wife actually doesn’t want her privacy." The Prince replies, “How dare you, sir! My Instagram-loving b*tch wife has always wanted her privacy!”

A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW---Ewan McGregor and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will star in this Showtime/Paramount+ miniseries based on the novel about Count Alexander Rostov, a victim of the Russian Revolution, who is exiled to the attic of a lavish hotel and faces death if he attempts to leave. Winstead plays actress Anna Urbanova, who becomes his love interest.

GLADIATOR 2---star Paul Mescal commented on when the sequel's filming starts, "In the summer. I'm not sure exactly what the start date is, but soon."

STARSKY & HUTCH---David Soul, star of the original ABC cop tv series, commented on the Fox all-female reboot series, “Every article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not just reboot Paul and me – as a couple of old farts solving piddlya– crimes at the assisted living facility where we would now live? Who can do Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?.”
Soul and his co-star, Paul Michael Glaser, are both 79 years old.

CBS---CBS renewed NCIS, NCIS: HAWAII, CSI: VEGAS, TOUGH AS NAILS, SURVIVOR, 60 MINUTES, THE AMAZING RACE, 48 HOURS and LINGO.

TRIVIA---Steven Spielberg settled the controversy of who wrote the famous scene in JAWS in which Quint (Robert Shaw) recounts the sinking of the cruiser USS Indianapolis in World War II after it had delivered the components of the "Little Boy" atomic bomb to Tinian which was then dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. The Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine and about 900 men out of a crew of 1,195 survived. Navy headquarters were unaware of the cruiser being sunk, and the survivors were finally spotted 3 1/2 days later by a Navy PV-1 Ventura plane on routine patrol. Only 316 men were still alive with the others dying due to exposure, shark attacks, dehydration and salt water consumption.
Spielberg said, "I owe three people a lot for this speech. You’ve heard all this, but you’ve probably never heard it from me. There’s a lot of apocryphal reporting about who did what on Jaws and I’ve heard it for the last three decades, but the fact is the speech was conceived by Howard Sackler, who was an uncredited writer, didn’t want a credit and didn’t arbitrate for one, but he’s the guy that broke the back of the script before we ever got to Martha’s Vineyard to shoot the movie.
I hired later Carl Gottlieb to come onto the island, who was a friend of mine, to punch up the script, but Howard conceived of the Indianapolis speech. I had never heard of the Indianapolis before Howard, who wrote the script at the Bel Air Hotel and I was with him a couple times a week reading pages and discussing them.
Howard one day said, 'Quint needs some motivation to show all of us what made him the way he is and I think it’s this Indianapolis incident.' I said, 'Howard, what’s that?' And he explained the whole incident of the Indianapolis and the Atomic Bomb being delivered and on its way back it was sunk by a submarine and sharks surrounded the helpless sailors who had been cast adrift and it was just a horrendous piece of World War II history. Howard didn’t write a long speech, he probably wrote about three-quarters of a page.
But then, when I showed the script to my friend John Milius, John said 'Can I take a crack at this speech?' and John wrote a 10 page monologue, that was absolutely brilliant, but out-sized for the Jaws I was making! (laughs) But it was brilliant and then Robert Shaw took the speech and Robert did the cut down. Robert himself was a fine writer, who had written the play The Man in the Glass Booth. Robert took a crack at the speech and he brought it down to five pages. So, that was sort of the evolution just of that speech."

MY SPY: THE ETERNAL CITY---the sequel is underway starring Dave Bautista, Chloe Coleman, Ken Jeong and Anna Faris.

THE RIG---Amazon Prime renewed the series for Season 2 which will focus on the survivors being evacuated from the rig to land where new dangers arise.

TRIVIA---in STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER, Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) performs a seductive fan dance to distract Sybok's rebels. The scene began as a joke suggestion from writer David Loughrey, who was surprised when director/star William Shatner and producer Harve Bennett liked it, "'Well, why don’t we put Uhura up at the top of the sand dune singing a song and doing a dance?’” [Shatner and Bennett] "looked at me, and they said ‘that’s it — we’ll do it!’”
Nichols, whose career began as a singer/dancer with Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton, was happy to do the scene. Some sources claim Nichols performed the scene in the nude, but when she was asked about it by Trekkies, Nichols replied, “I was wearing… me. And, of course, I had a G-string on.”
Shatner and Bennett told Nichols she could also perform the scene's song, "The Moon's a Window to Heaven", but THE FINAL FRONTIER's composer, Jerry Goldsmith, would make the final decision, and they would inform her about his decision. When Nichols arrived for the looping session to add her vocal to the fan dance, she was told by Shatner, who assumed she already knew, that someone else would sing the song. Shatner consoled the very disappointed Nichols by saying she, “would have done just as good a job.”
The song was sung by Machun, the vocalist for the band Hiroshima and was written by Goldsmith, lyricist John Bettis and Hiroshima's leader, Dan Kuramoto.

June of 2024 or later for House of the Dragon, that's completely nuts. Who can keep interest in something that only comes out every 2 years and probably 8-10 episodes. They use to be able to pump out 25-30 episodes a year in the old days. I know the production values are much higher but that's crazy. I know someone who was crazy over Avatar (not me) and saw it 7-8 times when it came out and couldn't wait until the next one but after waiting 13 years he went and saw the latest one once and never even commented on it. I think my interest for HOD is probably over too.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS---Warner Bros. Discovery, New Line Cinema and Embracer Group announced they are developing a new series of movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novels, “Twenty years ago, New Line took an unprecedented leap of faith to realize the incredible stories, characters and world of The Lord of the Rings on the big screen. The result was a landmark series of films that have been embraced by generations of fans.
But for all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by J.R.R. Tolkien remains largely unexplored on film. The opportunity to invite fans deeper into the cinematic world of Middle-earth is an honor, and we are excited to partner with Middle-earth Enterprises and Embracer on this adventure.”
Peter Jackson and his writing team of Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens issued a joint statement, “Warner Brothers and Embracer have kept us in the loop every step of the way. We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward.”

THE MANDALORIAN---Jon Favreau said he does not have a definite ending for the series, "I think the beauty of this is that it’s a middle chapter of a much larger story. And though we’ll have resolution over time with these characters, I think that how these characters fit into the larger scope and scale, but it’s not like there’s a finale that we’re building to that I have in mind.
Quite the contrary, I love for these stories to go on and on. And so these characters potentially could be with us for a while, and I really love telling stories in their voice, and I love the way the adventures unfold and I’m looking forward to doing much more.”

WELCOME TO DERRY---HBO Max greenlit the IT prequel series about the origin of Pennywise the Clown.

THE LAST FRONTIER---Apple TV+ series starring Jason Clarke as US Marshal Frank Remnick, who must protect a remote Alaskan town after a prison plane crashes nearby releasing dozens of violent inmates and discovers the crash was not an accident.

Also, Michael Douglas commented on what would bring him back for a fourth Ant-Man movie, "As long as I could die."

CANCELLATIONS---Rian Johnson commented on the surge of streaming cancellations, "It’s been horrifying. The fact that it’s becoming common practice is terrible and adds to the awfulness. In the history of the business, there has been a constant evolution of horrible things. All you can do as someone who makes stuff is ultimately put your faith in the notion that if you make something, it’s going to find its audience."

EASY'S WALTZ---Vince Vaughn, Al Pacino and Michelle Monaghan star in this Nic Pizzolatto (TRUE DETECTIVE) movie about a down-on-his-luck comedian/crooner and his Las Vegas celebrity friends.

NCIS---showrunner Steven Binder commented on Mark Harmon returning in the future, "I don’t see how we don’t see him one more time at some point. Gibbs has, in my mind, advanced to a higher plane of existence for now—I don’t want to place him in an apartment in Anchorage or anywhere. We left him smiling on a river happy, and that’s the image I want people to have until we’re really ready to blow that out of the water or truly embrace it in some way."

GNOMES---Sony Pictures horror movie underway based on the short film about a girl who discovers a killer gnome tribe.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
James Brolin was chosen to replace Roger Moore as James Bond in OCTOPUSSY after Moore said he was leaving the 007 franchise. Brolin flew to London to meet producer Cubby Broccoli, “When I heard I was going to go over and meet with him, I dressed to the hill. I spent more money on clothes than I ever thought I would, all at the wrong places. But I looked good! I showed up there and I did two screen tests, which I think are both available on YouTube now. Anyway, good or bad I got the job and Cubby took me to his clubs and I thought, ‘This is the life here in London!’ Just that was terrific whether I got it or not. This business is a crapshoot and a bit of luck anyway, so...”
However, Brolin said Moore changed his mind and Brolin's career as 007 was short-lived, “I literally left Cubby Broccoli in London, came home to get all my stuff to live in England for a year, when Roger Moore said, “Oh I’ll do one more!”
Ironically, in 1966, Brolin appeared in the James Bond spoof movie OUR MAN FLINT (James Coburn, Gila Golan) in which he played a crewman on the submarine operated by the evil Galaxy organization.

THE MANDALORIAN---executive producer Rick Famuyima commented on the absence of Cara Dune in Season 3 after Lucasfilm fired Gina Carano for her controversial online comments, “Cara was a big part and continues as a character to be part of the world. It had to be addressed in the creative and Jon (Favreau) took the time to think about that. It was something that was discussed as we knew it was going to have an impact on the show, but at the same time, what has been at the heart of the show are the two characters — Din Djarin and Grogu– so ultimately it felt like a servicing of that, and around the Mandalorians.”

DUNE: THE SISTERHOOD---the HBO Max prequel series has had major departures with director Johan Renck, co-showrunner Diane Ademu-John and co-star Shirley Henderson having left. Renck reportedly left because he wanted the prequel to visually resemble Denis Villeneuve's movie, but HBO Max did not agree. HBO Max released a statement regarding the departures , “As Dune: The Sisterhood has entered a pre-scheduled hiatus, there are some creative changes being made to the production in an effort to create the best series possible and stay true to the source material. Johan Renck has completed his work on the series and a new director will be brought on; through mutual agreement, Johan is moving on to pursue other projects. Additionally, Shirley Henderson will be exiting the series and will no longer be playing Tula Harkonnen.”

The longer he searches for Mary, the more he begins to wonder if this is still reality – or if he has fallen into the gloomy underworld of Jacob Crane."

TRIVIA---character actress Ruth McDevitt had two roles involving deadly birds. In the tv series KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER episode "Bad Medicine", McDevitt played newspaper columnist Emily Cowles, who gave helpful advice to investigative reporter Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin) as he sought to stop evil Indian shaman Diablero, who assumed the shape of a deadly bird and other animals.

BLONDE---Ana de Armas commented on the negative reception to the Marilyn Monroe biomovie, "When we premiered the movie in Venice, or San Sebastián, [the reaction was much warmer than the reception was in the U.S.]. Of course, the reaction that gets the most attention is the one in the U.S., but that wasn’t the whole experience. It’s hard to hear these reactions, but you can always go back to what you experienced, and why you did it, and the reasons why you were attracted to the project. That is not going to change. You have the director, and you have other actors that you can always talk to. As hard as it is to hear when people don’t like your film, it is what it is. It was not a movie that was made to please people or to make people like it. It is a hard movie to watch.
I don’t think the movie speaks badly about her a bit. I think it’s the opposite. I think it speaks badly about the environment and the industry, and that’s a hard pill to swallow sometimes for other people in the business. I feel like the movie also makes the audience feel like participants. We contributed at the time, and we still contribute, in the exploitation of actors, people in the public eye. We, the audience, do this. And I feel like it’s possible that some people have felt like [someone] pointed a finger at [them]."

ZERO DAY---Robert De Niro will play the President of the United States in this Netflix miniseries whose synopsis says,“ZERO DAY asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control? And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?”

STAR TREK 4---JJ Abrams gave an update on the status of the sequel, "I will say it’s the first time [since the original reboot] that we have a story that feels as compelling as the first one."

PREHISTORIC PLANET---Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 2 which will premiere on May 22.

FRASIER---Bebe Neuwirth will guest star on the revival series in which she reunites with Frasier for their son's birthday party which leads to a Frasier vs. Lilith showdown.

TRIVIA---Keanu Reeves said he has a clause in his movie contracts which bans digital manipulation of him without his consent, “I don’t mind if someone takes a blink out during an edit. But early on, in the early 2000s, or it might have been the '90s, I had a performance changed. They added a tear to my face, and I was just like, “Huh?!” It was like, I don't even have to be here.”

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA---writer Jeff Loveness commented on the sequel's poor reviews, “To be honest, those reviews took me by surprise. I was in a pretty low spot … Those were not good reviews, and I was like, ‘What the … ?'...I’m really proud of what I wrote for Jonathan [Majors] and Michelle Pfeiffer. I thought that was good stuff, you know? And so I was just despondent, and I was really sad about it.”
Loveness saw the sequel in a theater, “I went to [a showing], and an audience was laughing, and it was one of those Sullivan’s Travels, ‘watching the movie with the prisoners’ moments."

BATMAN BEYOND---a rumor claims Warner Bros. is developing an animated BATMAN BEYOND movie that is not connected to the cancelled live-action movie starring Michael Keaton. The animated movie was written by Daniel Casey (FAST & FURIOUS 9) before James Gunn and Peter Safran became co-heads of DC Studios.

ALIEN: ROMULUS---Isabella Merced (DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD) has joined the cast of the Fede Alvarez/Hulu movie in an undisclosed role.

SUPERMAN---Michael B. Jordan jokingly commented on rumors he will play Superman in the next DC Studios movie, “Who said that? Who said that? You said that. I didn’t say that. I don’t even know about no rumors about that one.”

DEAD BY DAYLIGHT---movie underway based on the video game.

TRIVIA---the JJ Abrams sci fi movie SUPER 8 involved a train derailing which releases an alien monster that was captured by the US military. The alien was played in motion-capture by Bruce Greenwood, who is listed in the credits as "Cooper", the alien's nickname on the film set. Greenwood said, “It’s not your typical acting exercise at all, because you’re really the only person in this room with all these cameras in it. It was a very weird thing to offer up all this big emotion while . . . the rest of the people in the room are picking away at the craft services table. And you never really how it will turn out because it’s all left in the hands of the artists and animators who are putting your work together.“The other part that was really memorable was that I saw a bunch of other (big name) actors who were doing the same thing in other studios . . . and there we were: In one-piece Danskins with our pot bellies and saggy ***** hanging out."

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE---photo released from the Sony Pictures Animation sequel.

SPIDER-MAN-FOTOR.jpg

CONSTANTINE 2---Keanu Reeves was asked if he had spoken to James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, about the sequel and that hopefully the sequel would be filmed, "Yes, and me too."
Also, he was asked if he regretted turning down roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "...No, but I did always want to play Wolverine."

CONSTANTINE-FOTOR.jpg

JAMES BOND---Taron Egerton commented on rumors he is a candidate to be the new James Bond, "...I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me. Yeah. I mean, I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met the Broccolis. They’ve never enquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.”

MADAME WEB---a source claims Sydney Sweeney will play Spider-Woman in the Sony Pictures movie, but it is not known which version it is.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA---VFX co-editor Jesse James Chisholm commented on criticism of QUANTUMANIA's visual effects, “I feel like working for Marvel, I’m in the NFL. They asked me to do ‘Ant-Man’ and I was like great, these films have all this heart, but I read the script and thought, ‘Holy s–t! This is not ANT-MAN, this is gigantic.
I got to play in the Super Bowl. I got to create characters and environments and bring Peyton [Reed]’s movie to life, and it’s really exciting. I feel fortunate to do what I do, and I work my a*s off.
It’s easy in this climate right now to bash things and that’s the easy way. I don’t know if many people know what we have to do and what it takes to make a movie of this magnitude, but I’m proud of what we accomplished.”

DC STUDIOS---ARROW co-creator Marc Guggenheim said he is disappointed he has never heard from DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, “I assumed that they would assemble some kind of brain trust to help facilitate what I assumed – hoped – would be a vision as ambitious as the DC Universe deserves. But I’ll be honest: I would have liked to have gotten at least a meeting.
Not a job, mind you. A meeting. A conversation. A small recognition of what I’d tried to contribute to the grand tapestry that is the DC Universe. I’d only spent nine years toiling in that vineyard, after all.
Although working for DC had been creatively fulfilling, it involved a lot of adversity, challenges, and personal sacrifices – none of which seem to have accrued to any professional benefit. Simply put, the Arrowverse hasn’t led to any other gigs, so it feels – at least on a career level – that I really wasted my time.”

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
In 1959, Ian Fleming wanted to make a movie based on his latest James Bond novel, which became THUNDERBALL, and wanted Alfred Hitchcock to direct it. James Bond Radio podcast co-host Chris Wright said, “It was Ian Fleming’s idea to contact Hitchcock. He sent a telegram to Hitchcock through a mutual friend, asking if he’d be interested in directing Bond’s movie debut.”
Co-host Tom sears added, “It’s unclear whether Hitchcock read the THUNDERBALL script that Fleming was touting. Though he may have considered the offer, he didn’t want to make another spy thriller so soon after NORTH BY NORTHWEST."
Had Hitchcock directed THUNDERBALL, he would have reunited with Sean Connery, who co-starred in Hitchcock's MARNIE in 1964.

Ian Fleming unsuccessfully tried to get Alfred Hitchcock to direct his planned James Bond movie which became THUNDERBALL.

SELECTIVE OUTRAGE---in his Netflix comedy special, Chris Rock made his first public comments about being slapped by Will Smith at the Academy Awards, “Y’all know what happened to me, getting smacked by Suge Smith. I got smacked at the (expletive) Oscars by this (expletive). People were like, ‘Did it hurt?’ It still hurts! I got ‘Summertime’ still ringing in my ears." Rock said Smith slapped him because of his frustration that his wife, Jada Pinkett, was sleeping with their son's friend, "His wife was f---ing her son's friend...she hurt him way more than he hurt me...Everybody called that man a b----They called his wife a predator...And who's he hit? Me! A n---- he knows he can beat [up]."
A source close to Smith said Smith has unsuccessfully tried to apologize to Rock, "He's tried unsuccessfully to make amends in the best way he could with Chris. But beyond that, family is important to him and [Smith] leaned on them [in the aftermath]. It all has helped him look inside and mature. He is better but still remorseful. Will listened to those who tried to help him and feels that he has become a better person."
The source added, "Jada has had no part in all of this other than being heckled. Chris is obsessed with her and that's been going on for almost 30 years. Look where he chose to film his Netflix special. Her hometown [of Baltimore]. Obsessed."

STAR WARS---Jon Favreau said Lucasfilm is searching for the future after the sequel trilogy, "There's definitely a conversation that's going on. And also what happens after the sequel trilogy, because the sequel trilogy only takes place over the course of a few years. And it's a big thing on the screen, and it's very eventful. But it is a relatively brief moment in history over the course of the thousands of years that STAR WARS takes place. And so what happens after it is interesting too, and I know that there's some discussion, exploration going on about what happens after it."

EVIL DEAD---Bruce Campbell said he and Sam Raimi may be involved in an animated EVIL DEAD project, “All I can say is we’re actively pursuing it. Sam’s a busy guy. He had a big hit movie, so he’s got a lot on his plate, but he and his brother are actively shaping out the world. It’s one thing to get an animator and say, ‘Hey, animate this!’ You’ve got to know what you’re going to animate… I look forward to it because my voice hasn’t aged as much as I have.”

MARVEL STUDIOS---Mark Ruffalo commented on how James Gunn's hiring as co-head of DC Studios will affect Marvel Studios, "I would say, hire James Gunn, cause nobody does it better. And Marvel should be sweating because James Gunn is a really gifted filmmaker and I think he's going to be amazing for that franchise."

WALT DISNEY---Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger commented on the future of the STAR WARS movies after SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY and the cancellations of the movies by Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins, "SOLO was a little disappointing to us. It gave us pause just to think maybe the cadence was a little too aggressive. And so we decided to pull back a bit. We're going to make sure that when we make one, that it's the right one, so we are being very careful there."
He also commented on MCU's Phase 6 future releases which includes new Avengers, “Marvel — there were 7,000 characters, there are a lot more stories to tell. What we have to look at at Marvel is not necessarily the volume of Marvel storytelling, but how many times we go back to the well on certain characters. Sequels typically work well for us. Do you need a third or a fourth, or is it time to turn to other characters?
There’s nothing in any way inherently off in terms of the Marvel brand. I think we just have to look at what characters or stories we’re mining. And if you look at the trajectory of Marvel over the next five years, you’re going to see a lot of newness. We’re going to turn back to the Avengers franchise, but with a whole set of different Avengers."
Also, Jon Favreau commented on if Lucasfilm might release the original STAR WARS trilogy in their theatrical editions, "Do you think anybody but us, like, the people who grew up with it … would care? Because … what I figured out [is] that the younger people have a whole different perception of what STAR WARS is.”

DISNEY-1-FOTOR.jpg

ZULU---England's Prevent counter-terrorism report listed Michael Caine's 1964 movie ZULU, which made him a star, as a "key text" for "white nationalists and supremacists". ZULU is based on the Battle of Rorke's Drift in 1879 where 150 British soldiers defended an outpost from 4,000 Zulu warriors. Other movies on the list included THE GREAT ESCAPE and THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI. Novels on the list include THE LORD OF THE RINGS, 1984 and BRAVE NEW WORLD.

ZULU-2-FOTOR-2.jpg

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK---co-creators Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet commented on their version of the John Carpenter movie, "I don’t think we know enough about the movie yet to be able to say anything, but yes ‘requel’ is the idea. There’s no way to remake how great that movie is, would be a fool’s errand to try. So, you know, we’ll try to borrow what we love from it and find a new way to put the package together.
Not a remake. That’s one of those properties that you can’t [remake], it’s sort of untouchable to us, and lives in its own stratosphere in terms of how important it is to us, and how much we love it. So it’ll be not unlike SCREAM, I think, a nod to, and a continuation of, what we love about those characters and that world.”

FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH---Dexter Fletcher (ROCKETMAN) will direct this movie about the mythical fountain of youth. James Vanderbilt (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) is the writer.

SHRINKING---Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 2.

TRIVIA---in the 1954 giant ant movie THEM1, child actress Sandy Descher played a little girl who is found wandering through the New Mexico desert in a catatonic state after her family was mysteriously slaughtered. A government scientist places a glass of formic acid under her nose which leads to her chilling scream, "Them! Them!" Many years later, Descher admitted her memorable response was not entirely due to good acting, “They used something that did smell quite strange. It wasn’t ammonia, it was something else. They tried to create something different and it helped me a lot with that particular scene." Descher still does not know what the mysterious liquid was.
