Tina's comeback has much to do with David Bowie.....

He pointed music executives in her direction when she was still performing live gigs in small clubs at the time they were about to cancel her recording contracts.

The rest is history now, however Bowie recognized her brilliance at a time when she most needed it and she loved him for it.......

Thanks for the Status Quo memories Kev, head banging times indeed. I know Status Quo were huge in the UK, they did well in Australia but don't think they were well known in the USA, a hard country to break into music. I had one of their albums (12 Gold Bars), one of my cousins was a BIG fan of the group and I used to tease him about playing the same song(s)...Again, Again, Again 😁

Sometimes bands became 'too popular', including ABBA, Status Quo etc, parody bands had some success downunder and elsewhere.

Another great song from the Head Banging era;

Quo did get some stick 'for the same three chords' - was this from the same 'BBC music intelligensia' that promoted the Glitter band?- always thought it was rubbish. Their 3 CD 'Definitive Hits' certainly fill enough room with some great tracks.

Matt, agree Paranoid is simply groundbreaking - definitely head banging in the day! And the band kept going even after Ozzie had his troubles. Oh the head banging lost youth ..... LOL

Black Sabbath - Dio – Heaven and Hell live

Black Sabbath - Tony Martin - Headless Cross

Black Sabbath - Dio – Lady Evil

Kev,

yeah Status Quo did milk those chords, and why not if that's what the public like. I'm not familiar with the BBC music intelligensia, but suspect similar agendas to our ABC, now worse than ever.

Ozzie was certainly a survivor, he kept adapting to changes in the industry and pursued other ventures, of course his missus was most likely the catalyst behind him.

My older brother introduced me to Atlanta Rhythm Section in the 70's, this underated band is still performing, the original Rythym guitarist; Barry Bailey and Paul Goddard on Bass were among the best in the business IMO.

What do you guys think?

Atlanta Rhythm Section...Angel

Matt, thanks. I don't know anything about this band but thought it was a bit different ....

A new band to me Kev, apparently popular (especially in Japan) for their surf music back in the 60's, their song 'Walk Don't Run' being their biggest hit, but perhaps not as well known as 'Hawaii Five-0', the TV show being aired in Australia, maybe also in the UK.

'Like Wow - Wipeout' was a late addition to Surf Music by the Hoodoo Gurus, a popular Australian band in the 1980s and still going...apparently.

Great lyrics, great saxophone and incredible drums in this song (plus the lyrics really hit home for me on a personal level):
