Muslims Murder British Soldier in London today... (1 Viewer)

You got that right Michael. They even stayed at the murder scene to get people to video them on their mobile phones  Apparently it took a Police Armed response unit 20 minutes to arrive, as you probably know British Police don't carry guns for everyday duty

Cheers

Martyn...I saw that...the second link has the video...this is so grizzly...so sad...

I saw the video. Crazy, surrealistic, senseless... The assassin talks to stunned bystanders registering the images on their smartphones about his act and tells them to remove their government... He wants the media!
I don’t want to elaborate on this, this is a toy soldier forum, but I can’t refrain from saying that only an extremely naïve person can’t see that we are living in a time when a clear civilizational clash is ongoing, and only tending to escalate. That if you may call one of the opponents civilized…

Curious to know if anyone tried to help instead of just taking photos and interviewing the murderer.

You have to realise that our population has been systematically disarmed over the past thirty years (the honest, law abiding part anyway. Can't even carry a knife over four inches!) So no one was in a position to take on two armed men!!

Im afraid this is what the world is coming to and it's only going to get worse and more violent with these sort of hate crimes. I don't know what can be done but I do believe the death penalty should be introduced in any country that doesn't already have it so these murdering mongrels can be taken off this earth for good.

I really feel for the murdered soldier's family and friends.

Terrible incident from a number of aspects.

Having worked in Police Command and Control Centres and on the ground my reaction is like Martyn's. 20 minutes for armed Police to arrive at such an incident in Central London is simply not good enough, particularly when
the culprits are still at the scene. I was under the impression there were discretely armed police
floating around London on motorbikes who could respond to such cases quickly but I may be wrong or out of
date.

It was lucky,in a sense, they were only after one person as quite clear from a few images I have seen
that they could have easily killed a few more. Photo of him holding a bloody knife and talking to a woman is
amazing and not sure what that woman was thinking being so close.

There certainly are some seriously sick, twisted up nut jobs out there, words fail me really. One the more horrible aspects about this, is the fact that there was a very good chance friends and family probably viewed this attack, well before the victim was identified and next of kin informed.

One of my concerns now would be the inevitable backlash and the likelihood that more innocent victims will fall prey to this type of senseless violence.

Very sad.

Having been a policeman for 40 years, it is beyond my comprehension of doing this job and not being armed with a firearm!
Is the UK the only country where most officers are unarmed?
What if an unarmed officer was on the scene. He looks like a coward if he does nothing, but it would be suicide for him to attempt to arrest these two.
Again my mind cannot compute this scenerio.

I just had to come here and say something. To me London is a special place, always a pleasure to visit, not as beautiful as Paris, certainly not a perfect place, but still there is something about London I do very much like, as a visitor (at least to the Central London that I know). Only weeks ago I was there and showed the city to my son. So, when I heard these awful news I felt really shocked, this is so outrageous, the London that I know does not deserve this. How crazy and fanatic can you be? First Boston (I love to run, so another closer shock there), now this...
But beware of calling these people Muslims, they are just deranged people and I am sure certainly most Muslims in Britain don't fill this part.

My heartfelt condolences,
Paulo

P.S.
The people filming this with mobile phones, playing into teir hands, so weird, dettached, cold? No it wasn't a video game... The 48 year old lady is the one that is to praise.

American media is now reporting that Scotland Yard was "familiar" with these two guys because of their, shall we say, "unique religious views". They have also searched 6 other locations and arrested two additional people in connection with yesterday's murder. It seems there is an extremist angle to this.....

Thoughts and prayers to the family. Scumbags deserve nothing but a rope....

Things like this are why I favor concealed carry of handguns for civilians. It may not be a preventive answer to things like this in every case but it certainly would be is some cases. Waiting 20 minuets for a armed response while the scumbags have the unrestricted power in a situation like this is utter madness.

Yes it is a concern about the time delay for an armed response to such an incident, but I fail to see how allowing civilians to carry concealed handguns helps the situation.

In answer to your question, no the UK is not the only 'unarmed' police force in the world. We here in NZ are unarmed but have ready access to firearms in our frontline vehicles, plus Tasers, pepper spray, baton etc.

It may be difficult to comprehend and I understand your thoughts, but not every country is comfortable about their police force's openly carrying firearms.

As for an unarmed officer arriving on the scene looking like a coward, I would have to disagree with you on that. Yes he does have limited tactical options and he'd have to be keen taking on those two, but there are plenty of things he or she could do to assist the situation.......it all comes down to your training, using the tools you have and showing some initiative.

While it is not necessarily the answer to everything it allows people to protect themselves, and in many cases to protect or intervene for others.

While an in-depth discussion would be a diversion, these thugs would not likely have lasted very long in any town in Texas, and even if an armed police response is prompt they ate always going to arrive after the fact. The fact is police are not protectors because they cannot be everywhere at once to do so. They are an investigative, custodial and reporting agency for the courts.

Here in the U.S. the places where people carry firearms concealed or openly there are less street assaults and things like home invasions.

In this case, the British public being almost completely disarmed - and even being discouraged from self protection - the root problem is a political and cultural problem.
