Hi Zach,

I see you have been very busy. ^&grin Your BG Durbar collection is spectacular and it is so nicely displayed. My compliments! I am very, very glad you shared these photos with us. I never tire of viewing nice Durbar displays. The colors of the figures are glowingly rich and they keep you spellbound. I love Ana Dozino's work!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat, and don’t ever forget.... it’s all your fault! 😉

Hi Zach,

Ha! ^&grin There you go again! Blaming me for your absence of self-discipline! On the other hand, it is a mystery to me how anyone can resist the power of the Durbar! Your collection is significantly impressive and I know you enjoy it endlessly. I also find your display interesting in reference to having integrated some of the Marlborough figures into it. It all works seamlessly.

Again, my compliments, Zach. Your collection is beautiful and worthy of a First Place Blue Ribbon! It is a joy to view!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

WOW, Zack! You really impressed me! What a wonderful collection and display! Congratulations!!!! :):):)

I didn't know you had the 'fat' palanquin. We made such a few.

You made my day. Thanks for posting the photos. Can I share them with my newsletter collectors?

Cheers!

Ana

Of course!!! Thanks for making such wonderful figures!

This is beautiful stuff...displayed in a parade like that it almost overwhelms the senses (in a good way). The world of toy soldiers is infinitely amazing to me. Amazing Durbar collection Zach, thanks for sharing the photos.

I was asked to take some pictures of the palanquin I have. So, here you go!
I'll let Ana comment on exactly what it is. I got it at an auction, so could be wrong, but my understanding is that it was a commissioned piece at some point and is The Palanquin of the Maharajah of Jodhpur. Ana, if I am wrong or if you have any other information, I'd love to know more!
Thanks

Zach,

This palanquin has a story. Many years ago, an old Durbar collector travelled to India and came back with a few photos that he took at the museum in Jodhpur. This happened about 15 years ago, when my research abut the Delhi Durbar 1903 had just begun. We only had Gertrude Bell's photos as a source so he came with all these new pictures to make new sets. We can say that every state in India took everything they had to the Durbar, so it wouldn't be crazy to think that almost every piece exhibited in an Indian museum was present at the Durbar itself, except for the pieces of posterior manufacture. The collector was decided to get made for him the pieces he liked most within his photos. One of the pictures was of the palanquin with the peacock, that we made and later released as Jodhpur's palanquin. The other was a picture of this huge palanquin made mainly of glass, that he thought had been made for a quite big maharaja. These were only his opinions since he didn't bring any particular information about any of these.
We made this palanquin for him. But, as it was made of glass, it was mainly made with transparent material and plastic. We could not make any molds and the manufacture had to be completely from scratch, so it could never become a standard set. Because of the time it takes to make it and the price we had to charge because of all the work. It was made by Daniel and painted by me. I was talking with Pat about this piece and I told him that we made 2 of these; but then I recalled that we never got to make the second one. So this is a unique piece. Congratulations, Zach!

I don't know if I can share the personal photo of this collector (I never heard of him any more after a few years). But I found one at the offical website of the Museum of Jodhpur :)

Thanks for the background Ana! I always love to know the back story!

Zach

Thanks for posting better photos of this amazing set! Ana it must have been a very difficult piece to build. But the out come is stunning! Now I just need to beat Pat to the other one😜.

Hi Dave,

Ha! ^&grin Can't happen. Ana clarified that she and Daniel only made the one set. Zach beat both of us. {eek3}

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)
